The clan's hunting has been less successful the normal recently, and the Thickhead clan will be arriving soon for their monthly "protection" payment/tribute. Your job is to catch some food for your clan, at least enough that nothing untoward happens when the Thickhead's visit. It would also be worth finding out what is causing the food shortage and eliminate the problem.

There are rabbits throughout this section of the forest. Rabbits like flower covered meadows. They are normally so abundant you can scarcely go 10 feet without stumbling on them. For whatever reason that is no longer the case. Rabbit's are fast, and being small are hard to hit. They are timid creatures and will run directly away from anything that gets too close. However, their eyesight isn't great (can't see more than 2 squares) and they aren't too bright. Clan hunters will often chase rabbits towards other hunters. Waiting behind cover to pounce on them negates their evasiveness. Additionally they tire quickly and take time to recover. They are small enough that a goblin can carry two of them, although they will be encumbered.

At one time your clan slaughtered most of the local fox population. Foxes are typically quick and clever, but very rarely attack humanoids. However, they are fiercely territorial and will attack if they feel threatened. They have very sharp teeth and often move in small packs. They often hide in burrows under boulders and in tree trunks.


Mission details:

Primary objective (individual): Survive without major injury. (1xp)
Primary objective (group): Return with enough meat for the clan and as tribute. (4xp each)
Secondary objective: Find out what is causing the rabbit population to shrink so dramatically, and rectify the problem. (Wreck the ecosystem so that rabbits reproduce like... well rabbits!) (3 xp each)

Other things, if something takes up an entire square (a bush, pile of rocks) then you can't enter that square. You can enter squares that are partially covered by an object (such as a tree trunk or a tree), but there are some rules that limit movement there. If there is a tree trunk lying across a square you can't move over that trunk. Tackling into a square with a tree in it carries a 10% chance of tackling the tree instead... you don't want to do that :roll:

Chuck, I would advise against doing that because it would involve you sprinting head first into that log. The log is a physical obstacle, so you can't enter E4 from D4, although you could enter it from E5 or somewhere in a hypothetical row F above.

If you look at the obstacles spread around the field you'll notice there are two types, those that are semi transparent and those that are not. The semi transparent ones (trees) are something you can get around pretty easily, the opaque ones are not.

*Edit*: Also, you can look into the log from E2, E3, E4, or E5
*Edit*Edit*: I would strongly advise moving as a team. You won't get anywhere if you all move in different directions.

Since I'm on the far side, I guess I'll wait to see what the others do. (I recall rabbits being surprisingly difficult to hunt last mission. It was frustrating yet hilarious.)

Do local rabbits have the ability of their real world counterparts to see in all directions at once?

Well there are no particular sides per se... See what happens when you move around :P

As for the rabbits... do you know what Mission that was, because I wasn't able to find it. I know what I was going to use for the stats, but it doesn't hurt to see how they were handled before. I'm going to say they cannot see directly behind themselves, but can see in any other direction. I will also tell you that their movements are based on what they can see at the start of the turn.

If we're going to work as a team to investigate that log, I'm on the far side of the field. I'd be inclined to move B6 to C6,but I don't want to get in Pat's way.

I know the mission was on the previous boards. I don't think it ever finished, but I could be wrong about that. I believe it was the first mission after I started playing. But I don't remember any further details.

We can end up on the same squares so you wouldn't get in the way. Just suffer a penalty.

O.k. so this is my first mission and I may be missing something but are there other action we can do? I mean do we just move about until foxes and rabbits pop up or are there actions like look, search, and bang the end of the log so the rabbits run out the other end where everyone else is waiting to get them.

As such i think think that is a possible plan so HNN runs to E2(sprint) to look into the log. Then as the rabbits moves are based on sight if we keep out of the line of sight on the E row. So we should cover the D row so we can move into the E row next turn we HNN scare the rabbits out of the log. (that is of course if there are rabbit there)

Pats dragons sprints to D7 and looks at the tree.

I don't think you're missing anything. Its just unknown and we sorta have to discover what needs to be done. Moose in one of his edits said, we should move as a team. I think we could all hide behind the log.

Not sure if you should sprint yet Righteous- We might end up regretting doing that so soon when there's no real reason to do so yet...

Also, question - What does "hiding" exactly entail? Like we could only hide behind that log in ambush or something..?

Anyways, if Dreamer checks out E5, I'll move D3-D2.

My understanding:

Hunting: We move around until we flush out a rabbit. Then we have to tackle it to successfully hunt it. (The previous time we did this, our attackers had spears that they could use for a tackle bonus or throw.) But rabbits are fast and good at dodging and sometimes move in unexpected directions, so they're hard to pin down. So, unless someone gets really lucky, we'll have to work together to herd a rabbit into an ambush. When cornered, rabbits can sometimes fight back.

Being hunted: There's a strong hint that some predator (possibly a fox) is in the area, eating and scaring off the rabbits. We will likely have to fight it. It can kill us. (This isn't like a practice game where being tackled just means you have to stand up. We have hit points, and if we lose them we die.) There's a strong hint that the fox may be hiding inside the log. But that's a little too obvious. My guess is that the fox is inside the log, but that a more powerful predator will enter the map later in the game.

Hiding: The rabbits can see around them, but not behind them. They also can't see through obstacles, so it's possible to hide behind a tree or a log. So if the rabbit is on C6 and one of us is on E6, it wouldn't be able to see us because there's a tree blocking its view. This could be used to help set up an ambush. It also seems that we can duck behind the log (say, crouch down at E3), but it's not clear whether we could then spring up, jump over the log, and tackle D3 (and, if so, how long that would take).

Searching: Spreading out to cover more ground in hopes of flushing one or more rabbits out of the grass (and maybe hidden burrows) could work. So there's no benefit to being in the same square. But if we get too far apart, the rabbits we flush out will be able to just dodge around us. And we might be vulnerable to predators.

Other actions: Moose hinted in the recruitment thread that we might be able to move the log. That would probably take coordinated action of at least two of us. But it could provide us with more tactical cover.

Missions: We have missions/achievements, listed towards the bottom of the first post. Complete them for bonus XP. As mentioned, there may well be hidden achievements. (Defeat the currently unseen predator, for example. Or it could be something random and unexpected.)

Also: Pat, if you're sprinting, you need to specify the path you'll take. And E2 is outside your sprint range. You could, however, simply run to E5.

Actions: Very similar to the practice game. We can run, sprint, and tackle. But you could run D5 to E5 without having to resort to sprinting.

I'll move B6 to C6. That will explore a bit more of the field and get me closer to the rest of you to help handle whatever you find inside the log.

I'm so glad you caught that because I was about to spend the next 5 hours staring at the picture driving myself nuts trying to figure it out otherwise.

So if we spread out we can't move the terrain... might I suggest everyone move in a general upward direction.

Well to be fair, it's not like we can "see" exactly that the terrain can move, I only noticed since your post prompted me to go look at that preview you posted... :P

And yeah, I had at first too only noticed the log - Presuming that we were gonna need to carry it for some reason, like move it to a tactical location to ambush rabbits... :roll:

I don't see the rabbit, though. Maybe because my phone screen is too small

The white things is most likely a tree. not a rabbit and on second look yes it looks like we will explore the area outside of the what we can currently see.
