Vampire: The Masquerade (IC)

Postby Runsaround » Tue Apr 19, 2016 6:42 am

Somewhere in America, by a road.

Is this the right road? Perhaps it isn't. Four figures stand at the curb, their eyes wincing at the sunlight as they avoid the others. Passing traffic grinds the asphalt, blending into nothing. The evening sun is sinking slowly. A fresh profile presents itself, a long gunmetal-gray limousine, windows tinted black. slipping surreptitiously away from the main stream of vehicles, the limo slowly pulls up beside the sidewalk. A speaker sounds.

"It's you, isn't it? Get in the car, we're headed to Detroit."

The sound of the car door lock, and the four take a good look at each other for the first time.
I have no idea what I'm doing, and IT IS GLORIOUS!

Standing on the curb at such an early hour was dangerous but Reese knew what he was doing, well knew why he was doing this and wearing the sunglasses helped anyway. As soon as the car opened its doors he throws his backpack bag inside and jumps in after without too much of a look and quickly sits up by a window on the far side and looks out the other side. He counts quietly with a brief pause between each number " one, two three". Then he turns around to see who these other are.

He himself is a of a slim and smallish size around 5'5 and lean. His blond hair is of a mid length coming down half over his ears. He wears an old and faded grey pinstripe suit that has seen better days and from what can be seen an new overly bright tie that is a mix of blue and yellow. As he looks at the others he is fairly wide eyed but doesn't say anything.

Croaker picks up a battered, black backpack from the side of the curb, hefts it over her shoulder, and quickly ducks into the limo. 6 1/2 feet of similarly black clothes (black boots, pants, a long coat, scarf, hood, a simple black mask, even a pair of gloves) fold themselves into a seat near the door, not wanting to take any chances of tripping over the other occupants or being caught off-balance should the vehicle suddenly start moving. As they settle down, a pair of pale grey eyes darts around the compartment, taking in these new surroundings and the other.....guests? No, perhaps that is not the right word, Croaker thinks, but it's the best one I've got. Otherwise, the body stays rigid and motionless. Even under several layers of protective cloth, it is glad to get away from the sun.

"Evening", the dark clothes grunt.

Merrin, a tall, slim man, so oddly proportioned that he almost seems as though turning sideways would hide him from sight, slides into the limo along with the others, a grin plastered on his face, his long black hair flowing as he moves. Chuckling to himself, the man's wide eyes dart around the interior of the vehicle, pausing only briefly on the other occupants, and when he speaks his voice flickers between a madman's raving and a grand proclamation, though never rising above a quiet talk, "Greetings, greetings, greetings. What an oddly motley we've got-ly, hmmmm? Hehehee, oh, a motley indeed."

Ratha had sit down on a bench and was appearing to read a newspaper, but he was doing anything but that. He was wearing an expensive looking coat and and suit. With the sun around it was hard for him to sit still, if there was nothing to do but waiting, so he flexed his shoulder muscles, trying to get rid of some of the tension. An elegant hat put the upper half of his face into shadows. The sunglases on his nose helped in hiding most of the mid of his face, while a well groomed beard covered his chin and cheeks. His skin was darker than most central european vampires had, an herritage from his mediterranean origin. Maybe roman or greek, but egyptian or persian was also possible. In one hand he was holding a suitcase.
He was not far above average height, but his slim but athletic figure made his movements appear gracefully, as he stood up when the limousine arrived. He put a hand on top of the car and took a look inside, before he climbed in as well. He placed his suitcase between his legs, so it wouldn't tip over.
Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. he greated the others politely, after he had sit down.
After a short pause, during which he took off his hat and placed it on his lap,
he repeated rethorically "Detroid it is, you said?"
He was curious about getting told more.

The driver, clad somewhat suspiciously casually in a denim jacket and dark gray jeans, turns back with a sardonically blank expression.

"Yes. Detroit. You all know why you're here... at least as much as they WANT you to know for now. We'll be there by dawn tomorrow."

The limo smoothly glides onto the highway, the driver deftly weaving through the traffic, the car shifting slightly.

"Feel free to chat, I won't get distracted. The council want you to get to know each other. It figures into... the job."

Looking at the others Reese decides to break in with the introductions after a brief moan of impatience.
"Get there after dawn. Gah, we better stop for snacks during the trip then or this is going to be one loo-ong ride, i'm not sure about the rest of you but just getting to the pickup on time was a hassle. Anyway gents I guess if we will be working together soon enough it's best we start with the introductions, you may call me Reese."

Croaker gives a noncommittal shrug and settles more comfortably on the seat in anticipation of what is likely to be a very long trip. "Perhaps our generous host will take pity on us and let us out to stretch our legs. Pity that we are to arrive only to have the night done, but perhaps there is something here we can make of it? And the name's Croaker, friends. Cards?"

"Tchehehe, oh a merry little bundle we've found ourselves in. Merry indeed. I am Merry. And I am Merrin, Merrilin, Marin, Man, all and none, one and all. All names, lined to fall. All for one and one to fall, and all to see that one stays tall. But who is to see the one stays standing, and who to see that the one falls? Certainly not this merry band, no, we are but to listen and do, are we not? Keheheheh."

"Well I didn't have time to eat to with the early rise and all so we'd better have a stop. Then again this is a limo, perhaps we have already been provided."

Reese checks the limos compartments to see if anything is in them. Either happy or disappointed with the result he turns back to the others.

"So let me get this straight you're Ratha, you're a constant frog noise and you're... a variety of M names, right? hmm.. well I suppose that covers introductions. I guess we could cover things that we can do that might be useful for the job, but what THEY wanted me to know about the job is basically zero currently so as far as I know we could be here to do a bake sale. How about you guys, anything you think we need to share or shall we just play cards this whole trip." '

"Quite a friend of riddles, aren't you?" Ratha sais with a tone somewhere between amusement and sarcasm.

"You forget your skills in alliteration and rhyming, friend. While I agree on keeping our darkest and depest secrets, there are less important secret that should not stay a secret withing this group. So thanks for the ones you shared with us already."

"As for myself I guess I would say I deal with information gathering, but it depends whats needed, and I like to dabble using chemical to different effects" He grins at the word effects as if remembering something he's done in the past.
"So have any of you been to Detroit before? or know any contacts there?

Nodding his head at the others answers and seeing that he seems to be asking all the questions he decides to continue.
"OK so not much useful information yet, I do have a contact there but they haven't responded to my message yet, he's not a big fan of modern day tech and refuses to carry a phone. On that note lets all exchange mobile numbers now as we're bound to need to talk at a distance at some point."
As the group exchanges number he checks out their phones.
"So what were you all doing before this little adventure? I just finished my chemistry degree. Takes a little longer doing these things online but we do as we must."

"The last jobs I had was as consultant on an hourly basis. You can see it as several job with a lot of clients. Most of it was strategically planning or public relations work. The last one sometimes had a touch of spin doctor. Necessary, but not to my liking. Before the last market crash the most popular request for my services were financial advice.

Well, I would not mind a game of cards if nobody has anything left to say. What did you have in mind? Skat? I doubt we got poker tokens in here."

"Jobs? I've been down south. Private eye. Not as thrilling as it sounds, but at least I occasionally got out of the office. My partner and I moonlit as bartenders when things were slow. I've got some business cards, actually, if anyone's interested. As for the other kind of cards, it's been awhile since I played that one, but I think I still remember a few of the rules. Hey, Performer, how about you shuffling? Just make sure we don't catch you slipping any cards up your sleeves, yeah?" Croaker chuckles softly to herself as she tosses the cards over to Merrin, unless anyone would like a business card, then she will fish them out of the backpack and then hand off the playing cards.
