"I promise not to run right into a snake again. Someone give me some rope."

I start easing out into the bridge...

((Looking to walk with quarterstaff crossways if possible, to help catch me if I fall. Want to be checking its state as I go, looking to repair the busted line of possible, and generally assessing if we can get across.))

((you are still on the ground right now, but assuming you climb up to the bridge:

Korrik climbs up the tree, and is almost at the top of the ladder when his head comes up to the level of the bridge, revealing a broad-shouldered halfling, curled up in a shallow nook in the boughs and cradling a small knapsack. He appears to be sleeping, and is breathing gently.

Merric grunts a bit at the sudden noise, ignoring it for a moment before he opens his eyes looking straight at Korrik.

"Hmm.. huu.. Whaa.."

Startled he almost throws his bag and himself down from the tree before clinging to it. Once he gets back to comfort he stares at Korrik to the point it seems a bit too invasive of personal space.

"Oh good, you don't have scales.. I think. The scaled ones seem to be trouble. Why are you in my tree?"

"Who are you talking to up there?"

Varsk will yell up. He half suspects that the fumes have cooked the halfling's brain.

"Nope, no scales! Though my boss does... but guessing you are talking about the lizardfolk, he's a dragonborn, and he's not too bad. Sorry to invade your tree, we're looking to cross the river! HEY GUYS! THERE'S ANOTHER HALFLING UP HERE!"

"Dead or alive?"

Varsk will assume the halfing isn't crazy, and in fact may be the most stable of this group, and will gauge the rest of the group for their reactions.

"HIS TREE? IS IT HIS BRIDGE TOO? GET HIM TO FIX IT."

Varsk will consider the situation for a moment.

"WHY IS HE LIVING IN A TREE OUT HERE?"

"Hey, guy... why haven't you fixed the bridge? Why are you living in a tree out here? Ooo! If you fix it, you can charge people a toll to cross it..."

"Not minding, the neighborhood doesn't seem too nice, ruining the bridge and all. I guess I should be happy I didn't make it to the other side."

Merric will take a look down to see the rest of the party as the yelling starts, frowning.

"STOP YELLING! YOU'LL DISTURB MR SCRATCHY! HE REALLY DOESN'T TAKE IT TOO WELL WITH STRANGERS! AND FIX THE BRIDGE YOURSELF! DO I LOOK LIKE THE LOCAL BRIDGE FIXER TO YOU?!"

He'll turn back to Korrik and give him a smile as if nothing had just happened.

"Hmm, that does sound like a lucrative living, but doesn't troll have monopoly on tolling bridges? Are you heading into the swamp by any chance?"

Gwen looks for the ladder to climb up to the halflings. "Maybe instead of yelling at each other we can all go down to soild ground and talk?"

"I'm confused.. do you 'feel' those you fight or do you fight by feeling? A trolls live under bridges right?

I guess I could come down, but I'm just going get up properly before hand.."

With that said, he opens his sack and grabs a wooden bowl and a waterskin once seated securely. He taste the tip of the waterskin before pouring it into the bowl. He seems to mumble a few words silently before submerging his head into the water for roughly 30 seconds. He slowly lifts his head letting as much water as possible drip back into the bowl before he very carefully puts it back in the waterskin and then both in the sack.

He'll climb down with Korrik to the others, giving the dragonborn a suspicious glance.

"So I'm ready to go into the swamp with you guys."

Syli eyes the newcomer warily, somewhat befuddled as to this turn of events. She then glances at Mehriv. "So, what, we're just collecting strays now?"

"Why not? We almost picked up another stray earlier. Anyways, Mr. Halfling, firstly what is your name? Secondly: What part of the swamp asides this part do you want to travel twoards? There is north swamp, east swamp, west swamp, and south swamp. The whole area is practically swamp."

"It's probably a tough choice, between drowning and dealing with us. Anyway, this bridge is unusable, so what now? Do we just keep walking until we find another crossing?"

"It's only mostly unusable..."

((What sort of check/s would you like if I'm trying to determine if the bridge will hold weight, and if not, whether it can be repaired or juryrigged to do so?))
