If you must know, the heat is way too much, and our goblins still haven't discovered a method to store water for long distances. Chances are they wouldn't find anything before they needed to turn back.

I finished the post before I saw Burns' vote (which would put tending the farms over searching for caves), but the resulting change doesn't have much of an impact on the write up, so I'm not going to change it now.

The Time Period: 985.10
Incoming Situations: Cactus Farm harvestable (986.03)
Statues and The Dead
► Show Spoiler
Cast of Characters (Players):
60% to a Character: Lokthar, Davecom3, Alavar, Donnigan, Alaen, Rogbull, Madmartin26, HerdsCats, SVM
40% to a Character: Nolandking, I'mBob, Loki, Moose, Burns
20% to a Character: Cheese, Chriscane, Croverus, Dusk, Nikohl, lozlo, Moose, Athedia
Lemme know if I screwed it up completely. Maybe it looks wrong because I took such a short time between posting the months since the votes were rolling in so rapidly, but I'm pretty sure I butchered the percentages all to hell.

Current Questplots: 0/3:

The Situation:

The month is mostly spent hollowing out the "bubbles" to smooth out the cavern and increase living space even further. You can now support 600-700 goblins comfortably if you use all available space. You discover several dried tubes where water "bubbled" up; these look to be the remains of geysers. As the hotspot moved, the geysers dried up. They're too small to explore or fit a squeezer through, and the rock's too tough to dig. Even from where the tubes are located, you're pretty sure you know where the strongest point of the volcanic hotspot would be right now (give or take a few hundred feet); it lies to the southeast of your position somewhere and you're not sure how far away.

A large stone brick hut is built around the Stinky Vaporgas pit (likely the domain of the shaman of the tribe once you elect one). Other than that, Sandglass Forges are set up, bricks of sandstone are pressed out of the Sandstone Molds to make "cubicles" of living space, and the mushroom farm is tended to. The dirt of the mushroom farm is perfect for growing other varieties of mushroom as well, so you can have an all-fungi diet if you wanted and still be perfectly healthy.

In lesser-wanted news, the attempt at searching out new caverns has come to a screeching halt. The rock is by far way too hard to dig through; you've come to the end of the underground explorations in this area. Back out under the dome and near the temple you run into the same situation, the rock and sand just turns too hard to penetrate even with what tools you have. Either you need a tool upgrade or you need to go out and explore a bit and hope to find some other locations. The surface of the dome at sea level has already been worn smooth and almost shiny by blowing sands, and many goblins are on full time sand duty keeping the sand that does blow down from filling the depression. The dome is nearly sand-covered now, so it won't be seen as different from normal ground (furthering your concealmant)

You've rigged up a series of stone buckets attached to what little cloth you have in a never-ending pulley system, where sand is dumped into the buckets, dumped around topside and then the buckets come back down. What sand is brought topside is strewn about to avoid allowing your little home to be detected if someone were to cross paths, however it's becoming more and more evident that the desert is pretty much abandoned to its own devices. It's still a bit too hot to go out and do major exploring, however. Even at Winter's Meet (which in this case is rapidly being referred to as the "12th Moon" to keep time, since there's no snow here) it will still be blistering out there and you still have to design up a reliable means of exploring without watching goblins boil in their own skins.

Attempting to domesticate the Gloaches proves near-fruitless. They're unintelligent and they barely act except to get out of big sources of bright light. They do react to sound and movement, but again it gives the "dodge" response rather than anything else. Putting a cloth saddle on one just shuts it down, they stop moving if a heavy weight (like a boulder or a goblin) presses against them for any period of time. Exposure to Stinky Vaporgas kills them on contact the moment it touches their feelers. Even your very very basic spells don't detect enough of an intelligence for communication... but that doesn't mean they can't be magically controlled once you get some magical skill up (or ask Ol' Mags).

Their "waste product" on the other hand, has some very interesting properties. Exposure to bright natural sunlight causes it to turn acidic and seek out the source of the light; you had gobs of the stuff climbing the wall during the day trying to get out when you brought it closer to the temple. The downdrafts couldn't pull them off the wall, but they were burning black trails in the wall as they climbed. When one made it to the surface, it spread out to cover as much area as possible trying to catch the sunlight, the "skin" of the blob burst, and the thing shriveled and evaporated, leaving the blob's "skin" to flake into burning dust. On exposure to Stinky Vaporgas the "Waste Light" (as you've come to call it) hardens and increases its density by about double, leaving you to make hammers and maces out of the stuff by sticking a stone rod into the blob and exposing it to Stinky Vaporgas.

It looks like a storm is heading in. It will either be an extended downpour or it will be a quick cloudburst. Either way, whatever water is left behind won't be around for long and you're already ready with buckets and such in place. Holes are drilled in the dome to catch rainwater in buckets hung from sandstone hooks, to be retrieved and harvested when the storm is over.

WILL YOU...

A) Completely seal over the dome on the surface with just a little opening for the curious?
B) Focus mostly just on building the village and tending the farms?
C) Attempt to harvest the Waste Light producing glands off of the Gloaches?
D) Try again to domesticate the Gloaches?
E) Build a "base" on the surface to make sure storms/sand doesn't get into the entrance?
F) Attempt to harness the downdrafts, for traps or otherwise?
G) Send search parties out so you can explore the land and see if there's anything else out there?

C) 2 (Nolandking, Davecom3, Feytala) (Seems pretty interesting stuff... And as someone who likes strange and/or magical stuff, I approve...^^)
