At a guess, I'd say it increases the power of an aligned skill by 1. The heroic tile I passed up is probably Answer A Call. I have no idea at all what the Evil skill is.

Not dying is absence of something. You will get achievement for dying. Try to die 5 times per map.

Some / most of them will certainly do. Just like a lot of other equipment.

Coins aren't destroyed. Also, you can decide not to take the items with you if you think there's a high chance of explosions. Like at the beginning.
