Wow. I think this is the first time this comic has made me this nervous. It's awesome.

Well, if Durkula wants to vote in the name of Hel, the OotS will know that he's not a follower of Thundershield anymore, but a follower of Hel.That'll be the moment anyone (including Roy) knows that he has unredeemable turned bad.

1000 Hel Polls for Thee
News wrote:
I just posted the 1000th online strip of
The Order of the Stick, which is impressive mostly for being a nice round number for those of us using base-10 number systems. It's been about a month shy of twelve years since I started the comic, and everything I said on the occasion of the
tenth anniversary (itself a very base-10-centric occasion) still holds true. Interestingly, I've done so many multi-page strips and offline supplementary material for the comic that the true number number of comic pages I've created is actually more like 1585ÔÇömore than half as many again than the strip number indicates. I don't expect to get to strip #2000, but two thousand pages drawn seems pretty achievable before we wrap this thing up.
In other news, for years now readers have been requestingÔÇösometimes very urgentlyÔÇödigital editions of the OOTS print books, and I've always resisted for various economic reasons. Well, I'm officially caving in. I'm pleased to announce new PDF versions of the first two books in The Order of the Stick canon,
Dungeon Crawlin' Fools and
On the Origin of PCs. We're selling them through
Gumroad, which allows us to offer them at a lower price while not having to deal with electronic fulfillment ourselves. The new cover-watermarked PDFs feature scalable vector art that looks good at any resolution (you know, relative to the material), updated fonts to match the current comic, and are fully bookmarked, with all strip number references in the commentaries hyperlinked to the strip in question.
Dungeon Crawlin' Fools also features an all-new Afterword by me looking back on that era of the comic and all the things that make me cringe now. I'd like to specifically point out that this is the first time
On the Origin of PCs has been available in non-tree-corpse format, so everyone who hates owning physical objects can now enjoy it (as long as they still own a computer or tablet or whatever).
This is still a bit of an experiment, keep in mind. If you want to know when the remaining OOTS books will be released in this format, the answer will depend heavily on how popular these end up being. The more we sell, the quicker you'll see the rest of the series in this format. As always, if you have any questions, I've set up a
thread on the message board.

and finally Roy understands. But I don't think he'll be anywhere near strong enough to take on Durkula

That last panel is going to be a 2-page spread in the book. Also, Rich made it into a wallpaper.
Available here
Also... I cannot deal with how long Veldrina's arm is there.

Man, he is great at putting humor in at even the most intense pages. Truly awesome page.

I don't think Roy will have problem beating Durkula. He is in a room full of healers who can cast him with other buffs as well.

Yes, but Durkula will be directly supported by Hel, and the whole vote is fifty-fifty, so sufficient support for Durkula....

Everybody hates Hel. That's why she is never invited.

She's never invited because she never has a high-level cleric (because they are all killed because they hate her, admittedly) but now that she has one there, they can't just not listen to her vote, or kill her emissary. She followed the rules to get there, now they have to follow the rules too.

It seems that now that Roy has finally seen the light, he's almost too willing to go for the kill. Straight from one end of the dumb spectrum to the other.

But the fight would still be 49.9999/50.0001 if two "destroy now" are taken out/busy... And there will be some who will fight anyone interfering, as it would be against the rules to attack another high priest...

You know what would be an interesting way to solve this current situation, storywise I mean.
► Show Spoiler
Roy loses the fight against Vamp Durkon, things look grim, worlds about to end and then none other than Redcloak walks in to let The Dark One vote. The goblins would most likely be all for the planet to continue existing. Enemy of my enemy and all that. (Dunno if people have already speculated this, can't be bothered to check all the spoiler tagged messages.)

That is a good point. Where is Redcloak, anyway? Shouldn't he be there? Or is he covered under the Western pantheon?

I'm not sure how nonhuman pantheons fall into this. But Maglubiyet's definitely not North, so he cannot influence the vote balance.
