Randy looks at Coljin, shrugs, then turns back to the hermit ."I apologize. I did not realize that the berries belonged to anyone. Have you seen any others come by recently, good sir?"

"Well... They're mine! Only bad folks steal berries. You might be not bad folks...", you receive a judging glare.

Randy takes out a silver piece and flips it to the old codger. "For any damage I might have done."

He catches it, pops it in his mouth, chomps and grimaces, then swallows.

"Not very good berry. I maybe trade... If you still want. Have much gooder berries."

(( Well, if it was purified using the mercury process, I guess it won't make him any crazier. On the plus side, it might clear his gut of infections/parasites. I've never asked about the size of the coinage, but after this I'm guessing something dime sized.))

"Er...that was a special "berry" for trading, not eating. You could trade it to someone else for a lot of 'gooder' berries. You see, I don't have any good berries right now. Maj might though." Randy pauses, shrugs, and continues. "If you wait long enough, you can probably get it back later. You'll just need to watch for it in your poop. I would clean it well afterwards, though."

"I'VE got the good ones! Whatcha got you give me for good berries?"

"Not a problem to check poopoo, that's how you get seeds to plant more!"

He gives you a wink.

((:chuckle: It's probably like real world. The weights are the same, but the coinage can almost look like anything, depending on where it came from. ))

Randy motions for him to wait a moment and walks over to Maj. "Do you have any goodberries made up, Maj?"

Maji would constantly make berries before they sleep, but even if he didn't he can make more easily. nods and gives Randy a smirk. He shows off a berry to the crazed man, more amused than anything.

"Very nice. Maybe you want other kinds, yes? Dried for later kind? What you give me?"

Nemeia watches the whole debacle with quiet amusement, wondering what good Randy thinks coins will do for a berry-obsessed wild man.

...but she gets bored fairly quickly and begins to wonder where this odd man has come from and whether he's honest or up to mischief.

"Or if you not need berries... I know things, yes, I do. You need to know things I know, maybe you give me something?"

Nemeia perks up.

"And what kinds of things do you know about?"

((Thought there was a possibility. Never discount the crazy hermits in the desert. They're surprisingly well informed.... ))

"Things that are happening, people that are doing things. All kinds of stuff. What you want to know? What you got?"

Randy gives Tess an arched eyebrow and a small grin, then turns back to halfling. "We're traveling to Esmont. Can you tell us about the journey there? Or maybe where to go and who to talk to once we are there? As to what to trade, is there something you would like in particular? Food, or maybe shinies?

"Yes, yes, and yes.". His expression lights up when you mention shinies. "Maaybeeee...."

"Begging your pardon, but you don't seem like the city type. How can we trust that your information is good? We have some things we could trade, but not enough to waste. Perhaps if you tell us something first, we'll know whether it's worth spending the few... shinies that we do have on more of your information."

Persuasion: 1D20+2 = [17]+2 = 19

"psshh. City folk don't know how to listen!". He taps the side of his head. "I do! The Lord of Estmont is not what he seems, if you go there, be cautious of his attention! You show me shinies first, I give good information for good shinies."

"Oh? And how do you know about the Lord of Estmont?" Nem asks, while making a bit of a show of rummaging in her bag as if she's looking for something to give him.

He pantomimes locking his lips with a key, before opening his mouth and tossing the imaginary key in and swallowing it.

"Did you just lock your lips and then open them to swallow the key? I think you want to talk to your locksmith!", she says with a laugh.

"Here, I've got these.."

She pulls out a few coppers and a couple of silver coins and some flashy, but largely worthless costume jewelry.

"What do you think of these? Don't eat them..."

He mimics regurgitation, fishes around in his mouth for a "key", and mimes unlocking his lips.

"Hmm... let me see..."

He scampers over, flicking the coppers and silver away dismissively, snatching up the costume jewelry, placing a ring on a finger and looping the necklace around his neck to check them out. Apparently pleased, he grunts and pulls them off.

"Shinies for me, and you get three questions? Yes?"

((For real? Three whole questions? About anything we want? Awesome!))

Nemeia laughs at the (brief) sight of a naked dirty halfling wearing a glittering necklace and gives Randy a half shrug and a grin. She makes a show of thinking over the halfling's offer.

"Hmmm... Well... You did take TWO shinies... Answer four questions more from us and you have a deal."

"Four questions more? Just four, not three and four more, yes?"

He puts the jewelry back on, and strokes it absentmindedly while he waits.
