The boy looks at Ah'Sereen and at the King.

"Well, we could try that....have a rope on one of us, go up with our eyes closed, and see if we are paralyzed or not. And if we start sinking, the others can pull him out with the rope."

"Then we check that first. Go on, stick your hand in! The dagger seemed fine, didn't it?"
"....or, of course, we check the paralysis theory before touching ourselves in the possibly toxic sludge. Hmm?"
To check his theory, Warryn has Erik approach the edge of the slime floor. First the weasel just sits there, wagging his tail and waiting for an eye to drift by. If his tail stops wagging, then Warryn can see that he's been paralyzed. Once he's been freed, he then closes his eyes and tries again, to see whether there's any difference should another eye come close.

Re: MotBM
Warryn sends Erik off to test the eyeballs. Sure enough as another one floats past, the little weasel freezes on the edge of the pool. It takes a while longer for him to "thaw" this time since more eyeballs float by in quick succession, but he does eventually recover and shakes himself.
Warryn closes his eyes, and comes to no conclusions at all because he can no longer see Erik.
Warryn has Erik close his eyes and wait for more eyeballs, but it apparently does nothing to protect him from the effects of the eyeballs and he is temporarily petrified again at the side of the pool until he is out of their view.

Dain looks thoughtful, and then gets a wicked grin. "I wonder what it would take to blind the eyes...."

"The name is Art, as you know well...and well, I was thinking you were right with the closing of eyes thing...now...I'm not sure. Maybe if we throw a bedroll over the eyes, or a blanket, to cover them so that they cannot see us?"

"I've got a feeling that if you do that, you won't be getting whatever you use back." He looks at the goopy scene. "Just a hunch."
"We know the black stuff seems to be immune to cold. I wonder if the eyes are as well?"

"The name is Art, as you know well..."
"Never bothered to learn it, to be honest. I wasn't exactly planning on us....enjoying each other's company for this long."
Warryn continues to sit as far from the slime and eyes as possible, leaving the dwarves to their plotting and scheming. They wouldn't be moving anywhere until the woman caught up, after all.

You count to around about ten before you hear him make a noisy break for the exit, then give him another couple of seconds. When you open your eyes he has left the room, leaving a faint trail of blood behind him.

Aura ((and Ah'Sereen?)) heads through the left-side door and joins the men, who are all standing around not doing much of anything.
A black fluid swirls anti-clockwise around a pool that covers most of the floor. Eight jade-coloured eyeballs drift passively around and around staring unblinkingly at the ceiling. A lit lantern hangs from the middle of the room.

"We have no idea how deep the black goo is. Just that you'll probably sink in it if you don't move fast across it. And that the eyes can paralyze you if they get a good look at you. The goo doesn't appear to be affected by sharp metal or cold. Closing your eyes doesn't prevent the eyes in the floor from freezing you. "

((Sorry. Been busy. My dictation system has been offline the entire week, so I've been typing like crazy to try to at least make an attempt to keep caught up with my lab letters. Dragon is about 3 times faster than me, so it's been painfully slow going. If nobody else updates something soon, I guess I can have Dain stir things up. I can't guarantee the party's safety in that event, though... ))
