Since God School is starting soon I got a jump on things and started learning GIMP. I knocked up a few sprites and thought that a thread for anyone who needs help and critique would be useful so here it is.

His name is Roger Gobb and here he is wearing a couple different expressions. I was going to use him as a sprite for an upcoming game I'm working on

Looking for tips, reviews, critiques, constructive criticisms or compliments. whatever you think.

If you have game art, post it here for the same :)

It would help slightly to see them standing up, instead of sideways. That said, I also notice the ears are not symetrical which may be a deliberate artistic choice. In general, I'd say they are cute and would probably work well in a game, though the heads are slightly oversized even for oversized.

The oversized heads and ears were a deliberate choice though to better show the emotions.

I do want them to be symmetrical though and I'm working on it

EDIT: They should be standing upright now

In my opinion the ears look to big, but some people might like it that way.

He is also missing some symmetry and it makes him look kinda funny.
But good job overall.

I like it. It's imperfect, it's vivid, it's a goblin. Well suited for forum games. Just make sure you can find the time to actually do all the poses you wish it to have. That is the time consuming part.

Room Art!

Still have a lot of sprites, items and rooms to go but I have the first and second room of the dungeon done! Here's the first, spoiler-free:

I really like the room!
Is the game going to be ancient Egypt style, or is it just a try?

It will be Ancient Egypt style, taking place in a pyramid. I hadn't seen a game set there yet and I like Egyptology as a hobby so I'm doing a pseudo-egyptian goblins game.

Ladders look somewhat strange. Maybe make them from thinner lines?

Cool, I like mythologies. Egypt is one of my favorites.

possibly a stupid question, but is that doorway big enough for the goblin sprites to fit through? Their heads look too wide for it at the moment, but maybe the images are different scales?

Otherwise it looks cool. To save yourself some time, you might want to make the bodies all identical (e.g. just copy-paste jobs) and have a sprites sheet where you have a bunch of body poses adn a separate bunch of heads & expressions (wow that sounds weirdly brutal) so you can just copy-paste them together when you need a particular sprite.

They look like they'll be easy to customise and colour though so that's good and will definitely make your life easier :)
