God School: Assignment 5
Assignment Five
ÔÇ£Come in, yes, welcome back! I hope none of you ran into difficulties with the transdimensional locators? You all found ArlesÔÇÖ dimension ok and everyoneÔÇÖs back now? Excellent!
ÔÇ£Now, this weekÔÇÖs lesson is all about copying someone elseÔÇÖs image and altering it using the simple selection tools (weÔÇÖll cover more of those next week) available to us. You may also notice that we have a guest with us today. This young goblin is... Um... Well, I forget actually. Mortals all blend in to one after a while. IÔÇÖm sure youÔÇÖll be able to give it a suitable name anyway.
ÔÇ£Thanks to the wonders of interdimensional replication technology we have been able to replicate this particular mortal several times, so you can each get one version of it to keep and do your bidding. Try not to kill it.
ÔÇ£Your task for this week is quite simple. We have recently learned the whereabouts of a particularly valuable magical item and we simply need you to direct your minions through the dangers to retrieve it. We have managed to open a portal quite close to where this treasure is being held, but unfortunately there is a powerful magic field in place which prevents deities from simply wandering in and taking it. Mortals can pass through fine though and Common Law of the Multiverse agrees that theyÔÇÖre so squishy itÔÇÖs only fair that theyÔÇÖre allowed some divine assistance. YouÔÇÖd be amazed how often that happens.
ÔÇ£ThatÔÇÖs where this little minion comes in. Get it through that door by any means you can come up with, and do it before next week. Try and tell us a story and remember to show us how you got your minion through. Any questions? Good! Off you go!ÔÇØ
-------------------------------------
NOTE: We'll come onto poses and manipulating sprites in later lessons, so don't worry that you only have one pose to work with for now. If you want to try using some others, there are some more of my sprites in the Resources Thread, but you'll have to draw a new dress and match the colours (I don't want to see any naked or invisible sprites running around for no reason!). I won't tell you how to do it here (consider it a challenge!), but if you feel like trying to figure it out then have a go

Re: God School: Assignment 5
Hi there! My name is Doug!
I'm Jeremy, nice to meet you.
Jeremy? Not something like "Plaything-Of-Gods" or "Cloned Mortal"?
That's very offensive. Not every clan names their nurselings like that and it's racist to assume they do.
Oh. I had no idea. I'm sorry to be offensive. There's a ladder there... maybe you should go down it and be careful, ladders and ladder related accidents cause several thousand deaths every year.
Nice work changing the subject, racist.
I said I was sorry!
What's down there?
A hat and a bottle of something
OH GODS! DON'T PUT ON THE HAT! IT COULD BE POISONOUS!
What?
The hat. It might be poisoned. I'm supposed to keep you alive. It's happened before. Ralph Viner, age 35, dead from a poisoned hat.
...I'm putting the hat on.
Huh. You do look very dapper, I suppose.
Dapper for a monstrous Goblin, you mean?
I'm not racist! What's in the bottle?
Something called Instant Bridge.
That's convenient.
Okay. Go back upstairs and use that extendable rod I totally gave you before you entered this place. Use it to knock over that torch to melt the ice. Stand back too. Fire and ice can explode violently when mixed.
I am certain that neither fire nor ice work that way.
Jane Smithers, age 23, died in a fire-icesplosion.
Good now go use your exendo-rod to get the key.
Now go back and get the bottle of Instant Bridge and open it.
OH GODS! I KILLED HIM! I'M SO SORRY JEREMY AND MESSENGER!
Relax *cough* I'm *coughcough* fine.
Oh thank goodness.
Hey wait!
What?
Before you go change that sign to say something nice. It's really mean right now.
Seriously?
Yes. It's mean and I would prefer it be nice and happy and friendly. Please do it?
Fine. Weirdest God I ever worked for...

Sorry for the lateness. This took a lot longer than I thought it would.
This is huge, so I guess I'd better spoiler it.

Re: God School: Assignment 5
Brilliant
Thanks BeanDip, Gathers and LAYF for completing this one! Your entries are all great and it doesn't look like you had too many problems manipulating the image to your own nefarious purposes
LAYF: Very nice sprite manipulation and nice and simple run through the dungeon. I like your use of the 3/4 facial view to show where the goblin is looking without having to change the whole sprite.
Bean: I thought yours was great and hilarious as always! Also the unimpressed face you use in panel 4 is probably my favourite sprite-expression ever so well done!
Gathers: This is brilliant! Super creative and totally unexpected solution to well, the entire room really! It's this kind of player response that makes playing & running games so cool in my opinion because I never, EVER would have thought to just switch the room around! Kudos for a great solution, and I foresee many a befuddled DM in your future

I'm NOT late.
I wanted to get it done yesterday but my mother ended up needing me throughout the whole day... Hopefully I'll manage to do it today.

Re: God School: Assignment 5
Well, surprise. I was already thinking about dropping out of this as well, when suddenly I had some time to do this assignment today. Yay!
So here it is, have fun!
It already made me laugh a lot, though creators normally tend to be much more sceptical with their work than others.
The others were nice as well, especially Gathers which was very funny.

Re: God School: Assignment 5
Mortal goblin, what is your name?
Ada┼ø
That's strange... I don't know where did I hear it before. Anyway I have an idea... Go down there.
Ok, I'm down, there is some book here...
Never trust books young goblin! Remember books can contain nasty things. That is totally not what we want here. My plan is different... see that ladder?
5 MINUTES LATER
Ok, that is what I wanted you to do. Well maybe these are quite short... but we have no other option.
But how am I supposed to jump in the end?
That is what we need that stupid hat for.
Ready?
I don't know, I've never done it before!
Don't panic, I saw it once when I was travelling west. Now go!
Now slowly, slowly...
No! You need to be fast, or you will fall!
Woohoo! It's awesome!
I knew it was a good idea, now we just need the key...
Argh...
Nevermind
Now, when I'm alone... what book is this?
No pictures... Shame, I would need to learn how to read. I will better go after this poor little guy, before he gets himself killed.

Re: God School: Assignment 5
Excellent! ...Though you're getting your submission marked down for calling the hat 'silly' (not that we have scores here)
A couple of minor points -
When your sprite takes the ladder rungs for 'skis', it would have been helpful to put a quick explanation in the text. I'm maybe really slow, but it took me a minute to figure out where the new shoes had come from. Also, the sprite making the jump looks a little demonic! If you added a pupil to the eye it would make the goblin look a little more 'Xtreme' and a little less Exorcist Really cool submission otherwise though - I like the humour and you've obviously got the hang of the lesson!

Re: God School: Assignment 5
Tank you for all the nice words.
Calling hat "stupid" was supposed to show my god's character and so on. Like you now, he isn't appreciate fashion.
I added one extra sentence to dialog, I hope it will be helpful in understanding what are you supposed to look at. I also have this problem in many comics, not noticing details.
He was supposed to look overly fascinated by this jump. He is just reference to The best Polish Ski jumper, thus his name.
Anyway it took me too much time. I mean I think it was way harder (a least at the beginning), than drawing everything for yourself. I split it into three days, not to get too annoyed. That's why I'm posting it so late.
Anyway thank you for pointing me mistakes and complimenting, I'll go for the next assignment soon.

Hay Borys
Nice little run through there
I like how simple you fixed Thinks problem, by adding "My plan is different... see that ladder?"
That explain exactly whats going on and where the "skis" come from, so nice done
I can see that you used the rotation for the hat, nice
One thing that I think is missing, I can see you manipulate the arms several times... but the body and the legs keep to a vertical position, I know its a ski jump... but :S just a little thing

Re: God School: Assignment 5
I know, I messed up with sprite. It was ok, as long as I was using just sprite from original pic, for the jump I needed different one, but I had to change face, arms and clothes. And effect is meh...
