Game Art Workshop

Post by BadgeAddict » Tue Feb 26, 2013 8:04 am

Welcome to the Game Art Workshop.

Here is the place for people (unlike myself) who have great and wonderful art for games but lack either the desire or the ability to act as a GM. Another possibility is that you just love creating beautiful pixel art.

The images that I am posting have been saved from the old forum.

I'll leave some templates I had posted in the previous thread.
They were used for Fugitives, game which I hope of resuming soon.

Here are some of mine. It's not everything I've drawn, but you know, spoilers :) If anyone wants to use these for a game on here you're very welcome to use them, modify them, recolour them or do whatever else you like to make them your own. They'll have plenty of room to move around in an area about 400 pixels high if you're designing areas for them to fit into.

I like those Bob :) Are you going to take that game up again anytime?

For all those intrested i have uploade of my Gimp brushes to dropbox Here

There are a brush I use for Mountins, Hills, houses and trees... I have used all on this image

[img][/img]

If you want them go download them... then go to where ever you installed Gimp and then to this subfolder
GIMP 2\share\gimp\2.0\brushes\Basic

In my case the full direction is D:\Program Files\GIMP 2\share\gimp\2.0\brushes\Basic. And paste them into here... restart Gimp, and you should have 4 new brushes... just set them to the size you need and paint away

So I am trying to make a map for the game I am thinking of running soon, is GIMP the best software to be using? Or is there an actual map-making program out there?

ThatÔÇÖs a good question... it really depends upon what you want!
There are a ton of programs that allows for fast map making... while using a drawing tool like gimp or photoshop allows for more freedom...

Sample programs you can use is:
World machine - http://www.world-machine.com
Map maker - http://www.mapmaker.com/v3/index.htm
Wilbur - http://www.ridgecrest.ca.us/~jslayton/software.html
And all the programs from Pro fantasy - http://www.profantasy.com

Personally I prefer to make my own maps in GIMP... in the good school I have a(two) lesson(s) on map making

As I'm still waiting on an action for the main game I thought I'd do this instead :)

That's cool LAYF, I might actually use some of them in my planned arena game. They can be pretty useful.

I must say Layf, that is one awesome goblin looting the chest and fighting the spider.. :P

I've been thinking about getting more graphical Wait that sounded wrong.. And thought I'd just look for some inspiration.. Already disappointed in my own abilities and haven't even started yet

But how does the brushes work? Are they just planting an icon once in a while as you move the cursor?

Hehe, thanks :P

And, yep, that's exactly what they do...

Each brush paints an image each time it moves 20% (or 40%) of its length, this can be set.
In hte case of my brushes, they each consist of at least 4 different images, that are chosen at random...

I would like to ask that, if people could go back through their posts and put the images in spoilers. Images toward the bottom are taking a long time to load because all of the other images are being loaded first.

Thanks.
