I'm scared
Elwood: It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.
Jake: Hit it.

This is definitely going to turn very ugly very soon. With Kore breathing down their necks, I don't see even a bittersweet ending, not to mention a happy one...

What was the prophecy exactly again?

edit: the wall ( http://goblinscomic.com/comic/12082009 ) says to Forgath and Kin Minmax
"When the serpent becomes your prey"

Fumbles predicts ( http://goblinscomic.com/comic/page-21 )
"When the serpent becomes his prey".

And Y&B says (to Forgath alone): (http://goblinscomic.com/comic/12142005)
"When the serpent becomes your prey".

So, Kin WILL survive. Only to become killed by Forgath, or at least it will seem that way....

Also, props to Gurkenglas for predicting the fog's action.

Edit2: correction of my stupidity...

I imagine Kin is powerful enough at this point to at least provide a decent match for Kore or at least have some some decent methods of escaping. Pretty excited to see where this leads actually as I don't foresee this ending badly.

Have Kin and Kore met before?

They have not met before. Kore will hate Kin on sight due to her being a "monster" and all monsters being evil...

I'm kinda hoping that she can backpedal quick enough to the entrance and that Kore's IME is so vast that it fills the room and he plunges into the rather large pit.

Okay, correct me if I'm on the wrong course here, but my thinking on this room is this: as long as she TOUCHES a shape, that will not be the same colour as the the other ones (as it would be the same colour as her hand/glove or at least a combo of the colour of her hand/glove AND the IME). So WHY on earth would she try to rush forward like a headless chicken, instead of just keeping close to the wall and IN TOUCH with one of these things ALL THE TIME? She is supposed to be super smart, she should be able to come up with that solution. Or have parchment sit on one shape until she's safely out of the area that turns dangerous when all the shapes are the same colour.

Additionally, she doesn't know how long she has to go to get to the next door/opening, or even IF there is one. Why would she run forward, instead of BACK to where she knows there IS a door?

I was wondering that, too. Why doesn't she go back?

Also, we can't say with 100% certainty that Kin survives this encounter, b/c we don't know for sure that she's the serpent. It could be the Viper Clan, or someone nobody's thought of yet.

As can be seen in panel 4, her IME has recoloured the tile she touched on the left of the entrance. So, it is useless to touch another tile as its colour will be changed to her IME's one as soon as she leaves contact.

(I also wonder why she doesn't go back - maybe her hopes of finding Minmax on the other way are stronger than her (usually great) logical thinking?)

At least we know that Kore isn't on the same path as the GAP and Minmax anymore.

That was my reaction too. But I'm still hopeful (for this encounter). And super glad the comic is continuing, and more importantly hope that Thunt stays well.

I always wondered if Kore would somehow curse Forgath, and he would then kill Kin, or at least go after her, through his cursed state.
Then obviously Minmax and Forgath would become enemies because Minmax's love for Kin would fuel that need to destroy the other.

Or, that he gets cursed and then starts going after his friends, with a fight between him and Kore.

Either way, I'm very curious what happens next. I get the feeling that the prophecy will happen soon-ish...

And just like that, we know for sure this is one of those times where everything goes horribly wrong in a way that advances the plot and stagnates the potential for sunshine/rainbow endings for the likable characters involved. At Kore's speed, there's no way he'll be able to survive this hallway, so the best possible scenario is he'll spot and remember her through the doorway and maybe even get a nasty shot in before falling to his not-death.

An excellent, on-time, well crafted, nicely paced, well constructed update. Tension, threat, urgency and compassion for our protagonist all on the same page. Nice work.

As to what will happen next, the IME's need to be different, and I imagine they will need to work together to escape this predicament. I doubt that this will happen though, and it's not as though Kore has not been through thousands of dungeon crawls before.

Actually, could Kin use illusion magic to appear human? If so, it's terrifyingly possible that Kin will get legit friendly with Kore and Forgath might misconstrue this as betrayal.

Well, that's not good.

So I'm not DnD expert...... but Wizard is generally pretty powerful right?

Probably one of the better classes to go up against Paladin I'm hoping.

If she runs now then the symbols will all turn white and kore will fall into the pit. ItÔÇÖll slow him down at least. I think the disadvantage she has here is that she doesnÔÇÖt know to run from kore. Tho, her tail should be invulnerable to any attack he has so, if she can ensnare him or something, sheÔÇÖll be fine because kore doesnÔÇÖt seems to be physically strong enough to break free from being crushed like that.

Kore seems to view anyone thatÔÇÖs not him as evil. Disguising as a human might not do anything.

"The serpent becomes your prey" -Doesn't say anything about the serpent being alive. Kore can kill Kin, Forgoth tries to find Kin later and then love fuels hate for Kore/Forgoth.

Also, remember that theory we had about Kore raising Forgath to kill MM & GAP using those pills he's got in his belt buckle?

Look guys. Kore is not all that powerful. It's just like when Minmax and Forgath wiped out the goblin tribe when they were just first level. The only times we have seen him have it easy is when he was fighting low level monsters.

The GAP were first, maybe second level when they fought him. And all of them just ran away except Chief because they made the assumption that he would destroy them. Later Big Ears almost killed him with one critical hit. Forgath a 3rd level Cleric did serious damage to him. A THIRD level CLERIC, and he did it in hand to hand not with spells. Kore just won because he was a more experienced fighter. He uses his spells exclusively for protecting and healing himself.

Nothing Kore possesses has given any indication of being a magic item. His shield and autofire crossbows have both been shown to be purely mechanical in nature. Maybe, just maybe his hand axes are magic. So lets recap that.

Big Ears, second level, 1 magic item, does serious damage to Kore.
Forgath, third level, 1 magic item, does serious damage to Kore.

Now we come to Kin.
1: Level unknown but has to be higher than any of the others. She has made multiple runs through the maze specifically for the purpose of gaining levels and magic items.
2: She has multiple magic items and a fire breathing familiar.
3: She has spells. Perhaps even protection from normal missiles which is a completely useless spell in high level adventures but would basically make Kore's crossbows worthless. Even without that there are first and second level spells and even cantrips that can make normal missiles less effective.
4: She is fully rested and has all her spells. She wouldn't have brewed a pot of tea and popped in without that preparation. Kore meanwhile may or may not be the same. It depends on what he has had to face in the dungeon and how long he has rested.

By all the rules of adventuring this should be a cakewalk for Kin. At the very least even if she is severely wounded it should be Kore who retreats to regroup and heal himself.

Face it, Thunt won't kill Kin because to do so at this point would be the most Misogynistic thing possible to do. She is a female character who went through pure hell then found belief in herself and others and deliberately trained for months to years to gain levels and knowledge and magic items. Killing her at this point would basically mean that the only reason Thunt put her in was as a plot device shoved into the story to give Minmax a reason to go into some sort of super berserk mode and beat Kore. It would mean she was never a member of the party but was just like every other female in the run of the comic. Just an object used to move the men along in their story line.
