Nothing suggests this is a frequent problem for him; Forgath and Kin had uniquely high defense with their indestructible body-parts. Kore has just been having a really bad week starting with that rope through his throat.

In half the fights he's been in he has broken his weapons. Against Forgath two broke. I can't think of anyone else in the comic that is this hard on equipment.

Exactly: this self-destruction was always a theoretical threat, but only against these new enemies is the threat becoming reality. Someone convinced me that for Kin to stand a chance, Kore must have been grinding on weak monsters for untold years, which fits with his on-screen performance and heavy reliance on weapons thus far. The reason he chose chopping over smashing is, the more exacting nature of a blade allows for easier torture. Poke a goblin and they bleed; nudge a goblin and you'd be lucky to bruise them.

He is to used to fight far weaker opponents by now? Interesting theory. I can see that becoming a problem for him. Sooner or later he will meet someone who can get around that shield. Or a dedicated line of opponents with shields for his crossbows and spears for keeping him at bay.

Downside with a mace is that you have to be strong to change direction mid swing. Axes share this problem.
You need to connect with the edge to fully use the axe. A mace is good however you hit.
Axes are more likely to glance off without doing damage.
The mace is short and you need armour to get up close. These axes are short and he is pretty armoured.
Maces are easier to carry.

And for torture, even Kore must have realized the utility of carrying a dagger.

Probably not. His preferred method of gathering information is reanimating a corpse and forcing it to answer magically, as shown in his interaction with Young-and-Beautiful a long time ago. Torture doesn't guarantee a straight or honest answer, and Kore isn't known to waste time with it.

Except of course with Chief, but that was a luring (and effective). In fact, neither of us were even saying anything about interrogation.

Generic's breakdown of ups & downs with different weapons sounds good, but I figure he prefers the jack-of-trades value of an ax that fills the role of fighting and torture.

An Axe is better than a mace against the real enemies of any Dwarf: the trees.

A even better weapon is to toss a dorky warrior at the trees.
