Irene waits listening to the other questions, holding Rythem so she doesn't step onto other peoples toes while all crowded together like this.

Koa half-hesitantly raises a hand, not sure if that's what he's supposed to do.
"I have one! Can our pokemon hold onto things while they're battling? ...Oh! And which one? The Elite Four person, who is it? Well that's two questions, but um... yeah."

Phoenix sits impatiently, waiting to get on with the tournament. Spot, on the other hand, has become very interested in chewing on his back foot. Phoenix looks around in annoyance until he finds the dark-skinned guy who asked the questions.

With the influx of people all around, Bjorn feels like he is being crushed on all sides. Not used to this many strangers! Need to move, need to run! He can feel his pulse racing, a clammy sweat on his palms.

He takes a deep breath and closes his eyes, hugging Grunt close. You are standing on the snow plains, surrounded by sawsbuck. You can feel the chill on your neck, the wind in your hair, the breath of the sawsbuck as they huddle around you.

He lets the words of the gym leader slowly pierce his daydream, taking them in bit by bit as he calms his breathing. He had no questions, he just wanted to get put of here and begin.

Koa

Most people remain silent, most not sure what to ask- Though Koa somewhat hesitantly raises his arm.

"Yes dear?"

"I have one! Can our pokemon hold onto things while they're battling? ...Oh! And which one? The Elite Four person, who is it? Well that's two questions, but um... yeah."

"I'm assuming you're referring to holdable items? If you have them, then yes... Though usually seen, most of you shouldn't have access to the majority of them, unless you're skilled at preparing your own."

"As for the elite four member- It's Matsudo, the psychic master."

Elias, having made sure to quickly get one of the few available seats, sits and listens to the gym leader's spiel, carefully taking in the rules. Once that's done and the floor is open to questions, he then quietly looks out about the crowd, using his social intuition to determine who looked to be the most serious threats; who came to play and seemed to know what they were doing, and who didn't. He pretty much immediately filed the guy asking about the elite four under the latter category; I mean, if the guy couldn't even remember to put on a shirt, how dangerous could he be? Most of the others get a more appraising eye, however.

"Alright, cool," Koa says back, not having anymore questions.

He looks about the room with a burgeoning grin, idly rubbing his hands together. That's one thing Koa has going for him - tasty treats to give his team an edge over the others!

Elias

As questions are asked, Elias scouts the crowd, trying to spot potentially dangerous trainers... He's pretty sure most of the others are average, though there's a few people who strike his interest- Three to be precise.

First is a rather short boy, which you'd almost say is a bit young for this, but probably just looks younger than he actually is- Wearing thick glasses, his face is expressionless, though you can sense that already he is calculating- Already wanting to be just that one step ahead.

Secondly is a girl, dressed in a black tank top, with arms crossed and a fire in her eyes- Determined and never willing to give up. You're pretty sure she's not one you'd want to cross.

Finally, a rather tall guy wearing loose clothes as if he came from the beach, but pale of complexion. You'd at first disregarded him as threat, but he's got this confident little smile playing on his face... And something tells you that's more than him just being cocky.

Izzy's initial instinct is to ask how much wood a woodchuck could chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood. She's not really taking the whole thing very seriously. But then, before she has a chance to be silly, the full weight of Eliza's words crashes down on her.

If you don't win, or impress the judge (a member of the Elite Four, no less!) then you don't get the card. Or the Pokemon....

A hundred contestants. Twenty cards. It didn't take a genius to figure out that the odds weren't exactly good. And certainly not for someone like her. She wasn't a fighter! She had never even owned a Pokemon before! How was she supposed to compete with all these other people, who had probably grown up with their 'mons, and spent years training for this moment!? All of a sudden, Izzy really regrets not paying attention to those Pokemon lessons on type advantages.....and moves.....and abilities......

Taking a deep, shaky breath, she closes her eyes and starts softly humming one of the tunes her uncle taught her. The one he always used to calm himself after he and father had one of their arguments. Panicking wasn't going to help. That wasn't how she worked. The pressure would just make her mess up, and screw her head up even more.

If she was going to do this, she was going to do it her way. No planning. No stress. Just take what comes, go with the flow, and keep your head above the clouds below.

With renewed determination and focus, Izzy opens her eyes and casually looks around the rest of the room as she waits for the questions to finish. She has no idea what she's even looking for, but maybe she'll spot something about her fellow contestants that could help out later.

Tyke raises her hand and sits up so its seen over the others. "Yeah, I have a Question. What happens to the Pokemon you pick? After the tournament, I mean. I already have Crackle, so I won't be getting one of the freebies, but this's gonna be our first real...Battle, I guess. What if we like the Pokemon that we choose? Is there any way we can keep them?" She asks, then suddenly raises a finger. "Ohh! And what happens if we say...Choose a Pokemon from one grouping and then go onto the next and find two or more we want? Can we give back the other one and pick the new ones? Or are we stuck with what we pick?"

Taking note of the girl seeming to panic, Alex gently taps Izzy on the shoulder with the handle of his cane, keeping his voice low so as not to disrupt the Q&A, "New to this? Don't worry too much, the tournament is split into rankings for a reason. Most of us here are going to be new at this, so you don't have too much to worry about," a small smile breaks his lips, "And if you start to have any questions, feel free to come find me. I don't have much experience with pokemon, but I have a basic understanding, and I'm good at getting people to give me the information I want. So, even if we end up facing each other, I'll see what I can do to help. We're aiming to be trainers, right? It's not an easy task if you aren't willing to ask for help or to provide it when you can... Just remember, this isn't about being good. If it were, they would just be giving the cards to the top twenty. No, it's about having the potential to become more than good, but outstanding. Just do your best, and don't let anyone make you feel like you shouldn't be here. This is your place, this is where you are meant to be. Win or lose, the judges will know if you have the right potential."

Bjorn, Alex, Izzy, Drake, Elias, James, Tyke, Phoenix, Irene, Koa

As Izzy almost has a small panic attack, a seemingly random stranger trying to comfort her as she calms herself down just as quickly, she inspects the room, trying to spot anything of interest... She does notice that a large majority of the people here don't seem to be carrying a pokeball with them- Meaning that, just like her, they'll probably be given their first pokemon in a bit. But she doesn't have too much time to contemplate that, as finally with Koa having broken the ice, the questions start flowing-

"Yeah, I have a Question. What happens to the Pokemon you pick? After the tournament, I mean. I already have Crackle, so I won't be getting one of the freebies, but this's gonna be our first real...Battle, I guess. What if we like the Pokemon that we choose? Is there any way we can keep them?"

"The pokemon you'll be borrowing for the event belong to the league. This consecutively means that many of them are owned by official league trainers, enforcers and gym helpers, and that their respective owners might call upon them from time to time. When we give a pokemon to select that you could keep however, we make sure that the pokemon in question are actually unowned."

"While it is possible to obtain a pokemon permanently from the personal league system, this is only rarely, and usually only for events such as these where the winners are given a pokemon. You'd need to do a great deal of service to the league to be allowed to keep one, in most cases."

"Ohh! And what happens if we say...Choose a Pokemon from one grouping and then go onto the next and find two or more we want? Can we give back the other one and pick the new ones? Or are we stuck with what we pick?"

"I'm afraid you'll be stuck with what you picked. That's the risk you take."

"Excuse me, but is there by any chance a contest version of the tournament?"

Eliza shakes her head. "I'm sorry dear. While it's something I like to indulge into myself- And a small part of the tournament will actually involve a contest, it's mostly considered a hobby, even though a few trainers make their living with it. Hence there's no way to get a trainer card through contests alone."

"...Any more questions?"
Eliza asks after a while, a silence falling over the room.

"Good. Then we can continue..." she says, as she does so the door behind her opening again- Revealing a guy in a white coat, carrying with him some papers that Eliza graciously accepts.

"I will be calling some names- Those who hear their name may follow my assistant here to arrange their pokemon. We'll be having several groups arrange pokemon at once, and continue until everyone has theirs."

"Now... Alex Sparo, James Zora, Koa Clark, Mike Smith, Izzy Gale and Jeremy Black."
she says, allowing the group to gather up, the short guy with thick glasses apparently being Jeremy as he joins the group. The group are then taken back- A guy in a similar white coat passing them as they leave, taken through the halls of a stadium, eventually entering a locker room- Standing on the far side of the room, a rather strange-looking computer.

Not much later, the others also get their names called off- The white coat that had passed the other group in the hall there to escort them.

"Second group is Elias Velori, Bjorn Felman, Nicole Wright, Irene Dove, Drake what the hell Theis you don't have a surname yet fix that and Isabella Ternor." she says, this time the girl in the black tank top marching to the front- As the second group is escorted to a room very similar to that of the first.

"New to this? Don't worry too much, the tournament is split into rankings for a reason. Most of us here are going to be new at this, so you don't have too much to worry about."
Izzy smiles at the stranger's words, having noticed for herself that, like he says, it seems like most of the people there will at least be using borrowed Pokemon like her.
"Thank you! I'm okay now. Good luck with your own battles!"

When Eliza shortly thereafter calls her name, Izzy merrily skips along after the white labcoat man, completely oblivious to the fact that the cane boy she just talked to is also in her group.

Alex trundles along the hall with the group, twirling his cane and whistling as he goes. When they arrive at their destination he looks to their guide questioningly, "A specialised storage system that displays three pokemon at a time?"

Alex

"A specialised storage system that displays three pokemon at a time?"

"Sort of. It's a bit more advanced than that, but it's effectively what we'll be using it for. How about you come over first and we'll have your pokemon selected, alright?"

And so Alex is first shown his selection of three pokemon- A hoppip, a clamperl and a weedle.

And similarly, all others also get a selection!

Bjorn

meditite, joltik, scraggy

Izzy

Izzy gets a selection out of zangoose, a mankey and... A pokemon called a "noibat".

Drake

wingull, hoothoot, torchic

Elias

solrock, roggenrola, espurr

James

skitty, geodude, pidove

Tyke

marill, gulpin, slowpoke

Phoenix

makuhita, hippopotas, spheal

Irene

snover, lileep, woobat

Koa

hoothoot, gible, togepi

Neither the Zangoose nor the Mankey garner much interest from Izzy. Mainly because her attention is entirely taken up be the little bat at the end of the list.

"It's so fluffy!!!"

And so, using her keen Pokemon knowledge, Izzy picked the fluffy little bat, ignoring the primates completely
