Foray Carnage Turn 38

Post by Nerre » Wed Apr 20, 2016 7:13 am

FORAY CARNAGE
Turn 38:

Events:
"Honestly, you should just be dead. Stupid humans go home!"
Blindingly complains and slashes the man who hit him, aided by Kills who also pulled out his sword. Their stabbing alone would not have took down the man, who swings his hatchets, one at Kills one at Splinters, who protects himself with his shield. Kills hisses as the hatchet cuts over his forehead. Splinters spins around and stabs the human in his torso from below, dealing the death blow. The human falls on his back and slides down the slope until the rocks below stop his body.

Defiles grined and attacked the freshly arrived human, and was whirling his blade around in a powerful strike. He delivered a strong blow against the human, while the man only managed to deal a minor cut. Defiles mocked him by dancing around him, to offer the man's back to Misses. As if he waited for such a chance, an arrow stroke the human in his back. He stumbled forward and Defiles could see the tip sticking out of the belly of the human. There was not much fight left inside the human, let alone life.
With panic in his eyes, he turned the stumbling into running and jumped over the edge of the cliff onto the slope, as this was not as high as the edge towards the street. He lost his weapon and slid down in a uncontrolled cloud of dust. Then he ran away as fast as he could.
With the battle being almost over, Misses ran to the ege of the cliff and took good aim at the man running away in the distance. He released his arrow, which added to the one already sticking in the back of the human. After a few more steps, he collapsed to the street and lay still.
Meanwhile, Kills took care of their wounds and healed his comrades back to full health.
"We should have disabled that cart. If they get back to the village, they'll be ready for us." Splinters said

After having healed himself, Blindingly and Splinters, he stepped up to heal Defiles. Just when he was finished, all their marks started to itch and glow. They changed a bit. Having shifted a line of symbol here, added or removed one there. A feeling of increased power came along with it.

"Maybe, but then they wouldn't have tried to flee at all, and we would have had great trouble facing all of them." Kills sets to looting one of the hatchet humans.

Both points for Kills are going to defence.

"I need a ranged weapon." states Splinters, and with that he heads over to the fallen archer and searches the body. He will pick up the bow and notch one of the arrows to see if he can use it or if it's too large for him. He also specifically looks for any gauntlets or helmet that might for him.

Splinters will also put both of his points into defense.

Blindingly looks round, hoping to find a semi-fitting set of armour that won't make too much noise or be too heavy.

Both of his points are going into Magic Attack.

Defiles loots one of the large axe men before using the smaller sword he looted earlier to carve a snarling goblin face on the human's chest.

Both of his points will go towards attack, please.

Foray Carnage Turn 39

Post by Nerre » Thu Apr 21, 2016 6:50 pm

FORAY CARNAGE
Turn 39:

Events:
"We should have disabled that cart. If they get back to the village, they'll be ready for us." Splinters said
"Maybe, but then they wouldn't have tried to flee at all, and we would have had great trouble facing all of them." Kills then went to loot one of the men fighting with two hatchets. He picks up his weapons, a dagger and some coins. The leather clothes of the man had turned into rags. But underneath he found a necklace. It looked like the little metal oval attached to it could be opened.

"I need a ranged weapon." Splinters stated and soon found the bow of the dead archer and some arrows. Some in the quiver of the man, but also some on the battleground, still bloodcovered from having been stuck inside a goblin. As it only was a human shortbow, he was able to use it as a longbow. Then he strips the man. His clothes were too large and damaged, but he could have put on the bracers that protected the archers forearms while shooting and a simple leather hood covering most of the area of the head, on which humans grow hair.
Maybe he could have put on parts of the human's armor as some kind of leather rags poncho, but it would not have provided much cover, as he had to raise his arms during combat.

Blindingly, also having looked for some armor, came to the same conclusion. Without retailoring or at least cutting, they could not have used any of this. When Blindingly put on the leather cap and bracers he found, he noticed that they did handicap his ability to cast properly, so he put them into his backpack for now, together with the silver he found. "Stupid Leather!"

Defiles tried to use a large axe, but it was too long and also a bit heavier. The leverage of the long handle made it feel even heavier. Then he took off the man's destroyed armor, and started to work on his reputation to life up to his name. He tried to carve a snarling goblin face onto the human's chest, but his sword was too large to be a wieldily tool. The goblin face looked swollen, a bit like Blindingly after he had gotten bitten by the snake earlier.
"Maybe with some more practice and a smaller blade..." he said with a smile, proud of his first attempt to defile a human corpse.

Misses picked up the arrows he had shot during the battle, and cleaned them. Then he did loot the remaining hatchet man, but he picked up only one of his weapons and some silver.
When he returns, his eyes focus on Splinters longbow "That's some nice bow you found there! Can I give it a try?"

Defiles slips the axes into his bag, even though they were too big to swing properly, perhaps they could be of use. He scans the scene of battle, looking for any humans that had not been looted yet (I'm assuming the one that fled down the slope is too far off/hard to get to?). If all have been looted, he cuts off their heads, letting the blood drain for a bit before tucking them in his pack as well.

Vote that Misses helps lot too, if there is any to be done, otherwise take up a sentry position.

Splinters nods when Misses asks to see the newly found bow. "Yes, if you wanna swap this bow for yours, that might be a good idea, as you are much better at shooting one. I'd be fine with using your old one."

He wishes the humans had been carrying something to start fire. He really wants to find something to start a fire easily with.
He thinks back to their goblin home...what do the goblins use for making fire there? Flint? or the old rubbing sticks together method? or something different?

Splinters also peers down the slope where some of the dead bodies fell. Where they looted by the group yet? If not, he looks to see if the others wanna head down and pillage.

@Dlover:
It opened quiet easily. He found two tiny pictures inside. One showed the previous owner of the necklace with a female of about the same age than him, the other a far younger human female.

@NotStickFigures:
Fire usually was kept burning, or at least the embers were kept from dying. If it rained a lot, tellers usually put some into a fireproof container and carry it into a hut.
If it really gets extinguished, they have to start a new one using flint or sticks, either with tinder or flamable liquids. Your tribe knows several ways. In the past, several tellers were known to be able to ignite it using spells.
You looted all, but you did not yet pick up everything.

@nerre, do you want us to weigh in on point allocation for Misses? I'd rather that D34dlock make those calls, but also don't want Misses falling behind where he could be otherwise? Temporarily allocate them, and let him change as he wants when he returns?

Thanks for the offer, but I didn't want to unload that task onto you, so I did it myself. I asign him 2 hp and 1 RATK, but will allow him to change it retroactively if he for example prefers 2 RATK.

@Everybody: If you want to go, please agree on a direction. You are now somewhere in the forest area between the L of the upper "Large rocks" and the D of the upper "Ford".

Splinters pulled out the map given to them from the chief and took a look at it.

"They will be worried about us now, so they will either come looking for us, or put up patrols to watch for us.
So we maybe should not head in from this side of their village, but circle around.

He suggests that we move up the road a bit, then head towards the river, mashing down some grass to make it look like we went that way, but then backtrack, and then carefully head towards the large rock to the east trying not to leave tracks.

Once in the forest we can travel north and then east a bit more once we pass the large rock. Then head north again. That we we can approach the human town from the side away from the river and maybe surprise them at least with our direction.

Before leaving he will take any of the leftover leather scraps from the human and shove them in a backpack. They could always be taken home and sewed into some sort of armor or something by the women.
If no one else takes the last hatchet, he will also put than into a backpack.

"That fits my head idea. We can set them along the trail on this side of the village to draw their attention, then circle around and attack from the other. "

I don't want to add to many mechanics to your game system, so tell me to mind my own business if you want....but...

what would happen if one of us goblins without any current magical ability would take a magic attack add up when the option came up?

No sweat, it's already inside the mechanics. :)
If you cannot cast a spell, don't have a magic ability or magic item to use with MATK, it is useless. Same as RATK without a ranged weapon. You can put stat points into it, which would indicate your basic potential, but there would be no garanty of the potential ever showing up.
Blindingly has a magical talent he was born with and which already showed before the adventure started, which is why he started with a spell. Not many goblins are born that way. If you would find a wand or something that grants you spells, you could use them and your MATK would add to their stats. Learning a spell by teaching it to each other is no option.

The name would seem to say not, but would taking a point in MATK have an influence on non damage dealing spells? For example, on Kills' healing spell?

Foray Carnage Turn 40

Post by Nerre » Fri Apr 22, 2016 3:51 pm

FORAY CARNAGE
Turn 40:

Events:
Defiles slips the remaining axes into his bag, even though they were too big to swing properly, perhaps they could be of use. Misses helps him packing up the rest of the loot and pushes leather rag after leather rag into his backpack. Splinters picks up the last hatchet.
After they were done, Defiles defiles the humans even more and cut of their heads and let them bleed out a bit, before he put them into his backpack.

"That's some nice bow you found there! Can I give it a try?"
Splinters nods when Misses asks to see the newly found bow. "Yes, if you wanna swap this bow for yours, that might be a good idea, as you are much better at shooting one. I'd be fine with using your old one."
"That would be great!" Misses said and sat up one of the corpses against a tree. Then he started to test the bow and shot several arrows into the corpse.
"Nice. Here, have mine" he handed over his bow to Splinters and walked to the edge to keep an eye on the road.

Splinteres wished the humans had been carrying something to start a fire, but they did not. There was some dry wood around, but he had neither flint nor tinder. He walked around a bit and took a look at the blood and slide marks on the slope. Seemed all humans got away.

Blindingly offered the armor parts he could not use to the others.
"Hey, I've got this set of hood and bracers, and I can't use em. Who wants?"
"I'd try them out.", Defiles says, mid chop.
"Cool. And we should go soon. I don't really want to keep this chain on for too long, it's a bit too loud, but you know.. human-goblin size relations."

Kills pried open the necklace, wondering if it had something special inside.
It opened quiet easily. He found two tiny pictures inside. One showed the previous owner of the necklace with a female of about the same age than him, the other a far younger human female. Disapointed, he closed it and put it away.
"Bah, just drawings of more ugly humans. Well, we should get moving. The humans will probably send warriors here, and we should be away before they come."
Splinters pulled out the map given to them from the chief and took a look at it.
"They will be worried about us now, so they will either come looking for us, or put up patrols to watch for us.
So we maybe should not head in from this side of their village, but circle around.
I would suggest to move up the road a bit, then head towards the river, mashing down some grass to make it look like we went that way, but then backtrack, and then carefully head towards the large rock to the east trying not to leave tracks.
Once in the forest again, we can travel north and then east a bit more once we pass the large rock. Then head north again. That we we can approach the human town from the side away from the river and maybe surprise them at least with our direction.
Before leaving he will take any of the leftover leather scraps from the human and shove them in a backpack. They could always be taken home and sewed into some sort of armor or something by the women."

"That fits my head idea. We can set them along the trail on this side of the village to draw their attention, then circle around and attack from the other" Defiles agreed.

The goblins did as planned, and used the cover of the night to walk to the river and made sure to leave easy to find tracks. As it was several kilometers away and the ground was rocky like the rough terrain they passed before and after the wolves cave, the could not hurry too much. Kills had to heal several minor bruises, but nothing serious. It was still dark when they reached the road again, as it was hard to find their own tracks, even with goblin eyes. Once they passed the street, the terrain got steeper again and even rougher. They did feel to tired to wander on and agreed to make camp about a quarter kilometer behind the road. Close enough to hear the humans, if somebody kept watch.

Do we know how far we were from the village? I'd wanted to move up the trail and leave the heads facing the village before we forded to keep their attention on the trail leading to the clearing.
