Goblins Minesweepers - Hammertime!

Post by LooksAndSmiles » Sun Jan 18, 2015 5:53 am

► Show Spoiler
As Stumbles Around brings the flower wreath to the statue, the earth starts to tremble. The goblins ready their weapons - and the ocassional spiky flags if they don't own a weapon -, but quickly drop them as they see what is unburrowing...

A Giant Undead Blacksmith.

The revenant they have just beaten moments ago seemed to be an easy task. This one, one the other hand, looks a deadly one. The giant stretches his body, which results in a shower of filth and the uncanny creaking of bones, then looks around. The two empty eyesockets gaze at the goblins, as they seem to be the only interesting things in the area.

- Who are you, and what are you doing here?

The voice is deep, and surprisingly vivid, not what you would expect from a corpse, provided you have ever heard a dead body talking. Not waiting for the answer, the giant continues.

- You know what? I don't care much. You woke me up, and there should be a good damn reason to it, as I quite liked slumbering. But as I'm awake now... I would really like to eat something.

He looks around grinning. Well, not that he has a choice in that matter, being half of his face rotten away already, but the goblins seem to notice a certain smirkiness in the tone.

- Just kidding. What I could realy do with is my hammer, though. You are no blacksmith if you don't have a proper hammer. Unfortunately, mine was stolen while I was dead. An when I became undead, I could track it down, but I could not reach it. It should be around here somewhere, but some occult magic keeps me tethered around this graveyard so I cannot explore further.

He sighs.

- Ah I know, you don't care. "What is in it for us?" You will likely ask, as any adventurers would do. So, to cut the chase, here is my offer: I let you live. Deal?
Round 3 - Turn 0

Map Information
Grid size: 12x10
Mine Count: 30
Hinderances: traps (few), monsters (?)

Map Objective: Deliver the hammer off-map.

"I suppose it will have to be a deal. How heavy is your hammer? Do you think we can lift it? Also, you've been around for a while, have you? Any idea why a graveyard is filled with mines?"

Spawn on J3. Equipping skill tokens. If I understand correctly that I can step on a mine and still keep hold of my equipment intact, I'll bring the detector and boots.

@Theis: There is no limit on spawn locations this map.
@JibJib: You got 4 tokens but only 3 active slots. Please choose which ones to equip. :)
@Wears: Just assume that everywhere in this realm is fully rigged with mines, that's why you guys always have a job and it's kind of second nature. Your other questions will be answered in game. Also, you - too - own 4 tokens but only 3 active slots (unless you permanently meld the +1 tile token into something). Please decide what to bring! And yes, equipment doesn't go boom, unless it's in its nature.

Waiting for Gathers and Zigit to rejoin. :) Expect update about tuesday.

Stumbles will equip skills: Visions, +1 and rescue. If he got one more free slot, then jump, too.
Stumbles will equip items: the new gloves, the jacket and the frying pan (so everything, I guess)

Stumbles will use visions on G2 (if not already uncovered) and (if not already uncovered) E2 (hoping Visions will work together with the +1 skill token), and spawn on K6 declaring rescue on Shiny whoever has the most Xp (except himself) that might be lost through death. (I assume that is only ONE player so I don't have to use the wild- card option - with the longer cool down, I don't want that - but I don't know which player that is. If that doesn't work the way I intend it to, declare rescue on Wears' character, instead.)

I see you are not making my life easy :D Currently Wears' character has the most XP aside from you (since dave and kida haven't rejoined yet), so I'll just take the last sentence of that description. :)

Btw, Wears' char has a Warning token from the reroll. I'm pretty sure he won't be spawning on a mine, at least once. :D

For your convenience (Just in case you want to streamline your rescue-tactics :D):
Jibjib's character and zigit's character hold a Warning token at the moment (Aside from Wears' ), and nerre's charcter still has the hiccuping figurine (which works like a warning token and then self-destructs).

Edit: waiting for zigit's post, but expect update tomorrow night anyway.

well, you haven't made my job easy as well. If there were tabs with the chars, their level/Xp and also their equip (complete, not what they have), I could have taken these things in consideration myself. :P

But as it is (with you not even knowing who will sign up, and posting the full roster probably being too much fuss), I thank you very much for pointing out the things you have and summing up that information for me. :)

So characters that have a CHANCE of exploding this turn so far are:

Shiny (Theis; Level 2, XP: 15. Deaths: 2)
Tries (gc, Level 2 XP: 12. Deaths: 4)
and whoever joins until tomorrow, I guess?

In that case I think I'll have Stumbles declare rescue on Shiny. -> goes and edits that into the action post.

Re: Goblins Minesweepers - Hammertime!

Post by LooksAndSmiles » Tue Jan 20, 2015 6:16 pm

@Gathers: yes, the way Rescue works is a bit tiring for the people, so I'm thinking to change it the following way:

Rescue: The skill user can declare explicitly (=only by name) another player who they wish to rescue. In case this target player is about to step/spawn on a mine or a trap, the rescuer saves them, moving both of them out of the map. The rescuer gains 1XP for rescuing another player and is also able to perform their regular action for the turn. In case someone else is in trouble but the declared target is not, then this other player gets rescued and the ability goes on a 5 turn cooldown. The player can change the rescue target each turn if they wish so (else it remains the same), and can also declare if they do not wish to save someone else (to prevent leaving map).
Limitations on the Rescue skill:
- You cannot rescue someone from a fight or from situtations that are not deemed life threatening.
- The rescued and the hero can not respawn in the same turn if there is no waiting list.

Please tell me what you guys think about this. I think it would result in a much smoother gameplay, but I'm open to any objections / opinions this change would raise.

Once I get the time, I will organize the skills, abilities and whatnot into the resources thread. Until then, please accept the mess and look up the new things in the recruitment thread (pages 3-6) mentioned in the OP.

ART RELATED 1: I opted to use roman numerals on this map, as it seemed to fit the ruin/crypt theme better.
What you might uncover on this map: I = 1, II = 2, III = 3, IV = 4, to avoid confusion. Uncovered numbers are told in the regular arabian numbers in the action description below, though.

ART RELATED 2: Shiny has a mask and Tries has a battlepaint, please tell me if you want it to visibly appear somehow on the character image in game.

Turn 1

The giant looks down at the inquiring goblin (Flags Mines).

- Well, as a matter of fact, I indeed have a pretty heavy hammer. But I think four of you can lift it and move it at least one tile per turn, more if all of you are faster than that. Oh, and I doubt this would stop you from doing whatever (main) actions you would do that turn. Now, off you go! Shoo! * he waves with his enormous hand vaguely, risking some of the tips falling off *

And so the goblins enter the map.

Shiny spawns on F6, which is a 1. +1XP
Blitz Craig enters the map on J8, uncovering a 3. +1XP
Flags Fuses uses his Visions on B2, revealing a 2! He promptly spawns there. +1XP
Flags Mines begins his journey on J3, which is a 2. +1XP
Tries arrives onto A10, finding a 1. +1XP
Stumbles uses his Visions on G2 (which is a mine), successfully combines it with the +1 tile on E2 (which is a 3), then finally spawns on K6, which is a 4. The neutral tile seems to have gotten exhausted by this combination, though. +3XP

I think the new rescue looks good. CD of 5 turns is certainly better than of 10 turns.

What does re-entering mean? That I have to get off map and back on it again?

Ok, I'm making an update even though missing actions.

@Gathers: yes, it means that.
Turn 2

Tries-and-Dies continues to A9, which is another 1. +1XP
Flags Mines briefly considers running to L3, but something warns him not to do it. So he steps on K3, which is a 3. +1XP
Oh See That Shiny heads down to F7, discovering a 2. +1XP
Blitz Craig hops down to J9, finding a 2. +1XP
Stumbles around jumps to K4, and explodes! Noone saves the savior...

Flags Fuses sleeps.
