((If it's Acrobatics instead of Athletics/Climb check, that's a +6, so a 13.))

((We've been using it to now for these sorts of climbs so we'll just keep going. I'll probably take ATH if ts more of a straight climb (e.g. using a rope or a sheer cliff), but if you can reasonably be a bit gymnastic/ parkoury, I'm good with ACC))

"We need to make sure the others aren't waiting for us... And while we do not have a plan, what can we achieve here? Perhaps if we could ensure they are not left waiting this would not be a bad place to train our skills - It is far more pleasant and safer than the swamp."

((Yup, that's totally fine, presume away - if I want another modifier or need an explanation I'll just ask anyway :) ))

Lizard Group

Korrik takes a couple of attempts to find his footing on the slippery bark of the tree, but once he's above the wet bit it's much easier. Little crab-like creatures scuttle away from under his hands and hide in the recesses of the bark as he swings his way into the branches and edges his way out over the water. The next tree's roots extent out to meet him about 10 feet below, but this is going to be tricky to pull off the landing... It would be very easy to get his foot snagged or trapped.

((Let's do acrobatics again for this one, DC16 to make the landing. I'll take a dex save on a fail))

While the group watch Korrik climb out, the little hawk cocks it's head at Merric and flies across the the island and the yellow streamer and caws.

I make sure I'm lined up to make the leap... gather my self... and then Merric's forking bird squacks.

Korrik is startled enough by the hawk that he misjudges his landing a little and slips off the top of the root. Luckily he is able to grab hold of a low branch and save his foot from jamming into the mess of roots, and regain his footing. He does splash loudly into the water though.

((Ok, one last DC10 acrobatics check to make it over to the low island where the yellow thing is)).

Artho looks over to Merric:
"I've got some jerky. What is it for though?"

"Forkin' flippin' spoonin' bird!", I scrabble my way across roots to the low island, shaking off excess water and checking for leeches, before turning my attention to the yellow cloth.

Lizard Group

Korrik reaches the little, low island, and sees a small piece of yellow cloth looped twice around a tall stick that seems to have been shoved into the ground. The little hawk is worrying the cloth with it's beak and talons, but lets out a shriek of surprise when Korrik appears from around the trunk.

It loses its nerve at having Korrik so close and retreats into a nearby tree where it fluffs up grumpily and glares at Korrik.

"O..kay.."

Artho keeps eye contact with Merric and calls over to Korrik:

"Korrik? Do you need the bird to fetch that piece of cloth for you, or are you able to handle the situation on your own?"

He does, however, produce a small piece of jerky from his pocket.

"I don't know what you promised the bird, but it seems remiss of us not to pay it."

I unobtrusively shift a dart to my hand, keeping an eye on the bird as I approach the cloth and stick.

"The bird can go dunk its head for all I care, as long as it keeps those talons and beak well away from me. Let me check it out first.

Druid Group
Tam yawns and stretches as he lets the last few notes of his song fade into the air.

"Do you not want to wait for the elders? I can open a door to get you near where the old druid used to live for sure. I've got no idea if he's still there though.

Oh! Mind you won't be able to come back if you leave. That's the way it goes here. You need to be invited by someone in good standing with the elders."

((damn, hit post too soon... Oh well.)

Lizard Group

Korrik looks at the little flag. It seems you just be a piece of dirty, sun-bleached cloth wrapped around the stick. There are no markings on it of particular note.

The hawk grumbles noisily, but seems to spot the jerky in Merric's hand and takes off, flying away from the group towards the south and out of sight of everyone except Korrik.

((Korrik, give me a perception check please))

Lizard Group

The bird disappears off into the trees to the south, but you lose sight of it.

A couple of minutes later, it flies back to Merric, holding a different but very similar-looking yellow piece of cloth in its talons. It deposits it on the ground by Merric and lands in a low branch nearby, squawking.

Tam shrugs and yawns again.

"It all depends on the decision, doesn't it?" He replies with a grin. He leans back into the tree roots behind him, shuffling down comfortably into the moss as his eyes begin to droop closed.

Merric will go closer towards the bird with his fistful of jerky and give it to the bird smiling broadly to the others.

"I told you it would help us. We go to the tree and retrieve the gift of the true god and the hawk will lead us straight there and then to the scaled ones quicker than we could do either thing without it."
