Veska waves off the ledger intrigue. "You lot have fun wit' that. I'm off to check out those pipes." She peers up at Uragh. "You comin' with? The kobolds ain't as leery o' you non-human-lookin' types. They figure the monster-folk got no love for the topsiders, not usually anyway."

Uragh seems to consider the proposition for a moment, a bit wary... "Perhaps... No one should be spotting us, right? I shouldn't be down there after all, it'd be suspicious... Then again, suppose it would for anyone. Sure- I can see fine in the dark as well, so staying hidden should be easy..."

"Only ones should be down there is kobolds, and they's mostly talk to their own. They don't ever talk to guards, neither. Won't matter long as we don't get caught," Veska shrugs. "Shouldn't matter much if we do, havin' me there wit'cha."

If no one else has need of her and Uragh anymore, Veska will lead the way, taking the most inconspicuous route she can think of to the nearest sewer entrance.

Veska looks back over her shoulder, then tilts her head at Vatro. "He's the one wit' the magic bag, not me. Bug him about it."

"It was your idea."

Jax rolls his eyes and hands the ledger back to Vatro to put in the bag.

Everyone - Safehouse

Uragh and Kytiel peer over Jax's shoulder, but neither of them get anything more from the cryptic ledger. Then Veska drags Uragh away to spend the day crawling around in other people's waste, while the other three continue to hang out in the nice, dry house.

Veska and Uragh

After checking a few alleyways, Veska finally finds a grate that the bulky half-orc can fit through. This maaaay be trickier than she thought it would be....

After Veska finally finds a hole big enough to stuff her partner through, Uragh notices something strange as Veska follows down after him. As the darkness of the sewers envelops her, she fades from his sight, becoming a dark, indistinct shape, nearly invisible to him despite his darkvision. It becomes easier to pinpoint her once she starts talking.

"Awright, this should be easy, I know these tunnels like the back o' my hand. Ya just stick wit' me and we'll prolly be fine."

At that, the murky shape that is Veska heads off, instinctively going northward towards the rich district sewers. She keeps a keen eye out for signs of kobolds, or anything else that might be lurking down here.

Uragh grunts, seeming to already regret this decision himself... Cocking a curious eyebrow at Veska, but otherwise not seeming too particularly interested... Somehow also being super perceptive, but not quite so on other things..

Veska and Uragh

Trawling through the sewers, Uragh quickly begins to regret coming down here. The smell is worse than the slums, caking the inside of his nostrils with the stench of rot and decay. How Veska can withstand it he doesn't know. Maybe she's just used to it?
And rather predictably, he quickly loses track of where they are. Veska is much better at navigating, but even she's not having a great time - most of her usual routes are too narrow for the half-orc, which means having to make detour or two. She still knows where they are though....probably.

After about an hour of winding through the sewers, Veska figures they're under the Upper District now. However, as they move deeper into the tunnels, they both begin to pick up a noise at the edge of their hearing. It sounds like....squeaking? Whatever it is, it's right in their path - and turning a corner, they quickly spot the source of it.

Rats.

Many, many rats.

Neither of you can see clearly enough to get a good count on them, their furry bodies coalescing into a single being, but you reckon there's at least two dozen. Probably more. Luckily, they seem distracted by food - probably some garbage, or a unfortunate pet that got lost. That is, until Uragh slips in a puddle of something brown, and a score of tiny heads swivel in your direction.

What the hell are the kobolds up here doing? They're supposed to be keeping these sewers clean (relatively speaking), how could they let this many rats swarm like this?!

Then Uragh slips up and draws all their attention. Veska sighs. Whatever, this won't take long, Veska thinks as she audibly draws her two swords. She, at least, won't have much trouble, being invisible in the darkness. Maybe she can leverage this bit of clean-up duty, should she and Uragh run into the kobold pack up here...?

Veska and Uragh

As the pair draw their weapons, the huge swarm surges down the tunnel towards them. On getting close, it splits into two distinct groups - one circling Veska, and the other Uragh. They then try gnawing at the juicy feet in front of them, but Veska is light-footed enough to dance around them, while Uragh just kicks off the ones which manage to latch on to his boots.

The indistinct smear of darkness that is Veska turns into a virtual rat blender as she lops several of the vermin cleanly in half with a barrage of swings, the rats being unable to see her strikes coming. She figures this will be so easy, she doesn't even bother to cast Hunter's Mark on either swarm.

(As a reminder, the rats probably have Disadvantage on trying to hit her, assuming they see with Darkvision)

Veska and Uragh

Veska carves through the rats like butter, shredding them with practised ease. Many of them manage to evade her blades though, weaving around behind her so they don't get completely decimated.

All right, well we know:

1. There's going to be a ball for this event, and our historian friend (meeting tomorrow) is invited. We should probably crash the party / get Kytiel invited.

2. The Carmichael guy in the cart is staying at a residence in town. We could go and scope that out, though the driver will know he was charmed by now.

3. We are amazing at pretending to who we're pretending to be and going to the in was definitely worth it.

4. Other things from the Google doc I can't access right now.

Any suggestions on where to go next?

Uragh let's out a bellow... And begins to slash at the rats beneath him! He opts not to rage for now, figuring these rats ain't worth it...

Attacks and sneak attack: 1D20+7 = [15]+7 = 22
1D20+7 = [9]+7 = 16
1D6+4 = [4]+4 = 8
1D6+4 = [5]+4 = 9
2D6 = [4, 3] = 7

(Think that's correct)

Veska and Uragh

Uragh is a little less flashy with his attacks, opting to smash his blades into the swarm. He still manages to get a big chunk of the vermin though, broken little bodies flying through the heavy air.

The rats aren't giving up though. Veska continues to dodge her swarm easily, but Uragh has more trouble - their tiny teeth and claws ripping and tearing at his shins for 6 damage.

Veska and Uragh

The pair continue their rat-culling, decimating the rodents with ease. Both swarms are looking pretty sparse now.

The few attacking Veska also seem to have realised the futility of it, and instead switch to Uragh - merging with the remaining rats at his feet. There aren't enough left to really be a threat though, scrabbling harmlessly at his boots.

Maybe the rats would've been dangerous to an unprepared kobold or two, but as expected they were barely even a nuisance to Veska. She takes a few more swings to try and clean them up.

Veska and Uragh

Before Uragh has a chance to defend himself, Veska swoops in and slices up the last couple of rats. A few desperate survivors manage to scatter into the darkness, slipping through cracks in the walls. But most of the swarm is now splattered across the floor of the tunnel, blood and guts mixing with the foul waste from the drains.

With a grimace, Veska wipes her swords clean with a spare rag before sheathing them. "That oughta take care o' the rats 'round here fer a couple weeks...," Veska says aloud, still disgruntled at the kobolds up here letting the problem get this bad. If the rats swarmed too much and ranged out above ground in search of food, up here in the rich district? That would've been trouble.

Veska tip toes her way through the viscera, going over to check out what the rats were eating in the first place.
