Re: Tests and Trials

Joe ponders pixies. She knows they are tiny but able spellcasters. They like the forest but also don't pass on the opportunity to pull, harmless, tricks on visitors.

If they decide someone to be of good character (after the tricks) they may show themselves. They avoid conflict and violence.

Everyone pulling weapons probably sent them the wrong message.

You're all having just the worst rolls, huh?

"Harmless? They've turned one of our number into a mindless beast in the middle of a forest inhabited by something that eats mindless beasts aplenty. If we lose track of him and he does change back then we'll be separated, and if he's still up that high when he changes back there's no knowing how badly hurt he could get coming back down. This is far from harmless. They're trying to kill him."

Ves raises her eyebrows at Joe and keeps herself just as ready as usual. Since she's been using her quarterstaff as a walking stick she's not really got anywhere to put it anyway.

Kro-zard finds a nice sunny length of branch and settles down for a nap.

Anyone actively listening or looking for pixies/other things at this point?))

((Not much we can do without abandoning kroshav.))

Lurn is absolutely on the lookout for sign of their attackers at the moment. Wanting a perception roll?

((Yep, a perception roll was what I was looking for.))

Lurn spots no sign of the pixies, just birds and squirrels.

"Well, we have nothing to get rid of the spell, so I guess we keep him scarpered up that tree and hope the magic wears off soon."
Jaq will find an area under the tree where it is dry and maybe at least grassy and take a seat and watch the lizard.

Dammit, the forum ate my post again...

Ves sneak-climbs up after Kroshav and attempts to get a rope on him now he's chilled out a little.

1d20+2 = [18] = 20 (Stealth)
1d20+3 = [10] = 13 (Athletics)

Not sure which of these might be more appropriate for the actual wrangling, so pick your modifier!
(Animal Handling: +3 = 14; Sleight of Hand: +2 = 13)
1d20 = [11] = 11

Jaq makes himself comfy to watch Kro-zard and then to watch Ves shimmy up the tree.

Ves moves nearly silently up the tree, which isn't all that hard to climb. Unfortunately Kro-zard is far enough up the tree that the branches aren't all thick enough to support an adult human and one snaps as Ves pulls herself up.

1d100 = [12] = 12 (Branch strength (less than 30 break))

She is in no danger of falling but Kro-zard is alerted to her approach in time to try and wiggle away and make an escape.

((Flat d20 dex to beat her animal handling from Kro-zard!))

Tree-snap! Don't eat! Run!

Kro-zard takes off scurrying when the branch breaking alerts him to incoming predators.

((Is there an adjoining tree canopy near enough he can leap into?))

1d20 = [10] = 10

Ves manages to get a loop of rope around Kro-zard's middle as he makes a startled twist to escape her.

((Close enough to make a smart, safe jump to? No. To make a crazy 'don't let them eat me' jump towards? Yes.

It is on the absolute edge of Kro-zard's ability to make. Should Kro-zard decide to try it please give me a strength -2 roll.

Also now that Ves has a big lizard on a rope what is she going to do?))

Shes going to loop the rope around the tree trunk until Kroshav settles the hell back down and stops struggling (or falls out the tree... Either way, she'll try to hold on).

Kro-zard makes a mad leap for freedom and briefly shines like a small golden star in the afternoon sunlight between the tree branches. Unfortunately gravity catches him well before halfway and as he begins to fall he runs out of rope. Hitting the end of the rope stops what little forward movement he has left and the little lizard sun turns into a shiny pendulum swinging right back at the tree he lept from but 15ft lower.

The poor lizard's body doesn't take the impact against the branches and tree trunk well and the wet crunch of breaking bones is clear.

Impact damage:1d6 = [6] = 6

Kroshav finds himself somehow spread awkwardly over several branches high in the air, neck twisted to the side and rope tightly wrapped around his stomach. There is also an odd taste in his mouth and something crunchy.

((Kro-zard is gone, you will not be forgotten!

Kroshav is back with confused memories of the last 15 minutes and one less HP.))

Kroshav looks around in confusion, gripping the branch tightly.

Depending on how sturdy of a section he's on, he'll go hand over hand towards the trunk, or contemplate just hanging and dropping.

((It was just a normal lizard with slightly bumped stats for its size.

The rope around Kroshav's middle is going to prevent any downward movement until removed. He is more or less at the trunk now.))

Kroshav scrambles down the tree, presumably with everyone watching him. Ves is still, inexplicably from Kroshav's perspective, up the tree.

Jolly asks hesitantly,

"Uh - Kroshav, how ya feeling?"
