Something about this didn't make sense, something she is missing. "....How did ye know ta call tha collect'r 'fore yer mast'r told ye?"

Joe is clueless about the summoning method.

(That's not what the insight was for. If she was curious about summoning method I'd used arcana. No, she is asking the assistant how he knew to summon the collectors before his master said anything.)

Seeing that the assistant is not answering Joe glares at him and then looks at Ves. She goes up towards Ves, and motions her downwards, then she whispers in her ear. "Ah'm startin' ta think tha 'e did it on purpose. 'e ain't answ'rin' me questi'n. Sound like 'e was prepar'd fer this, since 'e got ta collect'rs 'fore tha mast'r told em. Ah also wond'r why tha alch'mist be more worri'd about tha elves than tha oth'r folk. Ye make sure 'e dinnae get out, Ah am gonna talk to tha alch'mist." Joe goes to the alchemist.

"Sir? I was a wond'rin' wha exacly were ya makin' fer tha pref'ct?"

Ves can also hear a metal clanking getting closer. She'd put money on that there are more than one thing coming.

The alchemist doesn't look up from his work and responds slowly and distractedly,

"Oh...hmm...he wanted...a mixture...that would...yes...a bit more...make prisoners... follow his commands."

The alchemist straightens and grabs an empty bottle.

"Nothing that would affect elves of course. Clearly not there yet!"

Ves nods at Joe and then turns her attention back to the alchemist.

"...ok. No. That's not ok. Figure out an antidote, now. What are those things that are coming? By the way folks, we've got company coming. More than one."

"Hmm...no the Prefect agreed. All my work so far was not acceptable, affected elves!"

He pours a small amount of liquid into the empty bottle before pouring a drop of whatever he was mixing and watches it. Almost immediately a vapor starts rising from the liquid. The masked alchemist gives a nod.

"Things coming? Oh you mean the collectors! Yes they collect essence from the concentraters. Quite robust! Ertyl maintains them."

He corks the mixture he was working on.

"Are you ready Ertyl?"

(sorry for delay. Crazy Saturday!)

Jaq will introduce himself, belatedly. "We need to relax and slow down a bit here. I am Jaq, and have been sent down here by the Prefect's men to see if you could do something about the problems above. I do not think the prefect will throw you from the city for the error. He obviously wants the 'potion' from you and I'm certain he will still want it. So, instead of packing up, let's fix the problem with the water and then re-start on working on the potion."

"The Prefect has left Stenrek for a short time, so let's get this sorted out before he gets back. The effects in the water didn't kill anyone. It basically made Dwarves puking sick, and everyone else either went unconscious or got angry and wanted to fight before going unconscious. Can you clear the water? Oh, and do you have something to heal us? One of your shelves needed a whole lot of better stabilizing and fell and damaged us."

Ves tenses as the alchemist says "are you ready" and takes the Dodge action.

"Ah ain't about ta 'elp with a pos'on tha make us non elves us'less. Ah dinnae think it'd stop at prizon'rs. 'E may use it fer 'is people o fer battles o wars. It willnae be a good thin'." Joe looks at the alchemist "It ain't good 'cause it spec'fic'ly targ't us non elves. Ye maybe bright, but ye ain't seein tha big deal. It will prob'ly be tha end o us non elves as we know it."

The alchemist nods to Jaq,

"A pleasure."

To Joe and Jaq,

"I am sure the Prefect means well for all peoples, he has assure me! Either way, unfortunately, the Prefect will not forgive this...lapse. Elves were impacted." He shrugs.

"This is the solution to the effects above." He holds a large bottle filled with an oily black liquid, the same that produced the vapor.

"Once this is poured into the water at the well down here it will generate a cloud that should rise through the town's many wells and create a fog over Stenrek. I estimate that it should fix all of the illnesses..." He scratches his covered cheek absently as he seems to consider, "Within...hmm...three hours. More if is its windy."

He looks at Jaq just noticing the blood,

"Heal you? I don't know... well yes I have a healing potion in the storage room. It was clearly labelled, Ertyl you know the one?"

Erytl finishes with book stacking and looks up at the alchemist and then at the party. "I think it was destroyed along with a number of others in the room, master."

As Erytl completes the sentence the door none too gently opens and three large metal constructs enter the room and line up along the western wall another pauses in the doorway. Erytl places his hand in his pocket and says to the one in hall,

"Collect and pack our belongings place them at the entrance, avoid the incinerator." The construct turns and disappears back down the hall.

And the map.

((Map is from just before the construct leaves so you have a better picture of the situation.))

"If 'e want'd best fer all races, he'd wouldnae ask fer a posion that effect'd everythin but elves. 'Ell 'e wouldnae even ask fer a posion. Ev'n if yer right, what if someun else got thier 'ands on it? If 'e truely car'd about us, he would be affect'd by tha oth'r races bein affect'd as well." Joe looks at the alchemist "Dinnae leave. We need ta make sure tha the potion works."

Jaq looks at Joe and quietly says, "Friendly terms..friendly terms." then he obviously glances over at the three metal constructs and opens his eyes very wide.

This was something Jaq did not want to have become a fight. A surely losing fight. And they did have an anecdote.
"Let's go pour it in the well now. " He looks at the others to see if they agree. He will also do what he can to stop any hostilities from starting.

The alchemist seems to stare at Joe before responding,

"I don't make poisons! In any case I will see to it myself that this is administered to the well. The impact should be fairly immediate for those closest the wells, should it not work I will figure out something that does!"

To Ertyl,

"My books, my mixtures here and my formulae."

Ertyl nods and the alchemist walks past the group towards the exit,

"Come along. I must dispell the concentrator vortices as well."

Joe frowns a bit, but doesn't reply to Jaq. Not wanting to rile up the alchemist even further, she does not press matters. "That'll be good. Thank ye. Do ye need 'elp from us fer tha ant'dote?"

"Nuh uh. I want to see that tested first. For all we know, you did this deliberately and now you're lying. I don't know you or the Prefect or whoever else here, but I know this town is full of decent folk who don't deserve to be gassed to death while they're stupid on your poison water. So make the test, and do it fast.

Also, what are these things?"

She points to the golems.

"I need ten minutes to perform a ritual which can identify poisons. A cure should show nothing, and even intent upon fleeing as you are, until the antidote is administered the ten minutes will have no impact upon any outcomes. Stay a while, and allow me to confirm that this is not simply another poison."

The alchemist pauses by the door,

"If I had wanted to gas this city I could have done so long ago. I have already conducted my test, the solution vaporizes on contact with water. It will either restore the people in town or it will do nothing."

He turns to look at Lurn, or at least the mask turns towards Lurn,

"It will take approximately 10 minutes to disspell the vortices. You're more than welcome do test this while I work in there."

He waves you along and heads out into the hallway.

"Joe, you still have the sample from the well, correct? That can act as a point of reference." Lowering his voice, Lurn speaks to the others, "Keep an eye on them, so they can't escape until we're sure of their intentions."

With that said, he begins preparing the ritual for Detect Poison And Disease.

Joe nods at Lurm. While he is ritually casting detect posion/disease, Joe starts ritually casting detect magic.

Ves shakes her head.

"You'll be too vulnerable like this. I'll stay and make sure you are able to do your spell ok, unless that's what Joe is... Oh, he's going to meditate too. Ok. Yeah, this definitely seems like the best time for half of us to make ourselves extremely vulnerable.

Joe, where did your bird go? Can he help?"
