Re: Running the Monster Gauntlet: Escape (5e)

A couple short figures, not much bigger than Gomz old form, pop out of the brush, two of them carrying sharps like the hot cave creatures had, the other two holding sticks and string. They seem to be pointing these at Fred, as he's the most noticeable, the snake and blobs not really being all that visible at the moment. These four are covered in leather, but a fifth pops up, wearing woven metal and carrying a shield. The fifth one gabbers at the others.

((Roll some initiative! You detected them and thus weren't surprised, so if anyone beats them in the order, you'd be going first. They are currently 30 ft from the party.))

initiative: 1D20+3 = [13]+3 = 16

Gomz is not pleased with having his meal and form assumption being disturbed. He oozes up a tree with widespread branches , with the idea that he might get the literal drop on one of the creatures.

Miasma and Gris cower in confusion or fear, while Fred is the focus of the attacks, as everyone else is either an easily overlooked oblex spawn, or a snake at the moment.

The two with the stick and string contraptions release with one hand, and the straight sticks fly at Fred! However, they both miss without him having to even try to avoid them.
The other two with sharps run out of the brush screaming, one of which manages to make contact with him, but he twists to the side and manages to take it only as a weak blow. The fifth, better armored little green guy runs out behind them and takes two swipes at Fred, the first missing, but it manages to connect painfully on a backswing.
In a flurry of attacks, Fred has lost half his hitpoints in this form, but he's ready to fight back!

Fred, knowing he is f***
Disengages and runs for the gateway since he has no other recourse...

Gomz peers down from his leafy hiding hole and tries to determine if he can reasonably safely ambush a creature.

<<Okay.>>

Pseudopod attack: 1D20+5 = [2]+5 = 7
Gomz makes a swing at a nearby creature and discovers it's remarkably hard to to hit something while on a bobbing tree branch.

Sluj joins the attack, and struggles just as much as Gomz.
Pseudopod: 1D20+5 = [5]+5 = 10
1D4+3+1D4 = [2]+3+[2] = 7

Slem bursts from hiding and attacks the boss pointy if possible, another if not.

Slem attacks!: 1D20+5 = [20]+5 = 25
1D4+3+1D4 = [3]+3+[1] = 7

Slem attacks! Crit damage: 1D4+1D4 = [2]+[4] = 6

Gomz moves over and whiffs at one of the greenish little guys, as does Sluj. They are startled by your presence, yelling in harsh, guttural sounds.

Slem charges the well armored boss of the group, slamming them solidly in the thigh, his knee buckling momentarily before he turns to glare down at you in surprise.

Miasma and Gris continue to cower warily.

The two archers fire at the fleeing Fred, but the shafts either miss or plink harmlessly off his armor.
Gomz and Sluj are both attacked by those they targeted, both of which connect, the blades carving into their oozy flesh.

((You both have the 'Glomp' reaction you can take, making a Pseudopod attack for no damage but a restraining grapple that deals acid damage on their next turn.))
The boss turns and carves into Slem with its first swing, but misses on the second.

((You may also 'Glomp' if you'd like.))

Gomz attempts to glomp. (What's the roll on that? Firewall is blocking the stat blocks).

Gomz does a reasonable impression of an alien face hugger.
