The Klikpocalypse! Nov 09 2014

Post by Makes Noises » Sun Nov 09, 2014 4:07 am

I don't know what to say but WHAAA???

PS. Now that's diversity!

PPS. Are we about witness the epic battle of Kore vs. ALL THE KLIKS?

PPPS. I counted 34 Kliks in the picture. Not counting tiny flying balls. What are they, klik-tadpoles? Eggs? Droppings?

Have to wonder about each Klik's individual story, and if they have a society/a social hierarchy. Apparently, they can manipulate tools to some extent if the one grey-yellow klik with a staff is representative of anything, though it's possible that staff is just another klik. They also seem to be altruistic creatures by nature, judging by their efforts to slow Forgath's descent, which further indicates that Junior was crazy because he was formed from an unnatural method.
Sometimes I get the feeling that If I was a goblin I would be called "Chews scenery". I have no idea why people might think that!

Hm, interesting. Is there a healer amongst those? Or this page is just for introduction sake? Prophecies were shown to come to life in one way or the other, but creature from another plane was shown to rewrite the outcome of one already. Battle with another dwarf, check, lots of screaming - maybe?... Does negative hit-points equate to death?

You know, it is entirely possible that Forgath will die in a battle with Kore, with lots of screaming, just as was prophesied. But not in the first battle.

Omigod GOBLINS UPDATE!

Ahem... this is nice, but I'm not sure it needed a whole page. But maybe I'm just impatient because of the wait after Kore's gave.

Hmm...

Maybe Forgath's stone glove-mace used to be a part of some klik?

@Thunt_Goblins: After all these years, I can finally release this info! There are 3 variations of the species and 5 'type' classifications.

@Thunt_Goblins: I'll draw on live feed in the near future and explain all about the species. They're pretty complex and neato. XD

Klik managed to communicate to Dies that the shiny-colored body part thing is anathema to his culture, and that Klik might be killed by his kind for it, so I'm betting on no.

I am, however, betting five copper pieces that one of them has "negative hit points" as a positive.

Not exactly. Negative HP means you're dying. Or, as Max would put it, "mostly dead." You can't move, you can't cast spells, etc. You're only supposed to be allowed a few last words as you slip into unconsciousness, but most GMs give a lot of leeway, letting players get away with speeches and short conversations. That's the rule the comic has always used.

If you get someone to "bind your wounds" so you're not bleeding out anymore, you can stabilize. You also have a chance, based on your constitution, to stabilize on your own. Otherwise, you lose 1hp per round until you hit - 10, at which point you're actually dead. Until then, you can be healed by normal methods, and, given time and care, you'll recover.

So, no. This does not count as dead and does not fulfill the prophecy.

HOLY. FUCKING. SHIT.

Now we know why it took more than two weeks to get a page up. And according to his Twitter, Thunt could only do it by going without sleep for 72 hours. :x

Clearly the Noisy Round Spirits have a LOT more going on than we previously thought. Talk about stirring some starch into the plot....

EDIT - Besides the Axe of Prissan wielders and the Altsplanations, I also now want pages detailing all of the Kliks. Or Thunt could just cut out the middleman and go right to publishing his own campaign setting book. It would doubtlessly sell out in an hour.

EDIT 2 -

Nitpick: The chance to stabilize has nothing whatsoever to do with Constitution; it's a flat 10%. As lampshaded here.

I too want to see Altsplanations of all the Kliks. It would make for great "side stories" while he works on the next main page of the comic, and gives something to show for those who miss out on his live feed explanation.

Why does this conversation remind me of Miracle's Max's explanation of the big difference between "Mostly Dead" and "All Dead?" "Mostly Dead is slightly alive. Now, All Dead, there's only one thing you can do..." "What is that?" "Go through his pockets and look for loose change."

I'd like to know more about Forgath's Helmet, and why those four words were so important.

Willpell, thanks for the correction.

Speaking of which... We do try to keep the forum family friendly. Please mind your language.

HyoorDuke, there's a reason I specifically mentioned Max and used the phrase "mostly dead." (Anyone for a nice MLT?)

Urobolos, the explanation of Forgath's helmet is a bonus story available in the books (print or PDF). Book 2,I think, but I'd have to double check.

I am extremely mindful of it; I just happen to choose differently than you would apparently prefer.

We don't know if the Kliks will have any healing magic. I see plenty of hands that could bind wounds, and they seem to be very much in favour of saving lives, so... I think we can take it that Forgath does at least stabilize. Maybe at -8 or -9? (Yes, I know that doesn't always work, but in this case I am predicting it will.) Then natural healing could get him out of negative HP in a few days, at which point he will have his own cleric spells to heal himself up to full.

We can start thinking about what he'll be able to do next.

He's separated now from Minmax and the goblins. What's his goal going to be -- finding MM? Surely, yes. Which means he has to get out of this chasm and back to the door. Crazy Kore has declared he will eradicate Forgath's tribe of dwarves. Worse, he smashed the Helmet! This isn't going to be a conflict right now, because both trails are going to lead in the same direction; Kore isn't going to give up on his current target, the goblins, to divert anywhere else.

Any bets on how Kore gets through the Dragon's Maw gate? My money's on brute force. He'll break it in some way, so if Forgath comes along later, there won't be a puzzle to solve. Just some rubble to clamber over.

The Racist Axe is down here somewhere. (It would be kind of an anticlimax if the Kliks just gobbled it up right away.) Getting out of that chasm is not going to be easy. The only way I can think of right now is establishing some sort of communication with the Kliks, then convincing them to lift him out. That'll take time, and story events. No matter how this plays out in detail, Forgath is going to be a long way behind MM.

I think the "THIS IS A HELMET" badge is still up on the bridge. If so, I predict a moment when Forgath finds it... and another one when he puts it on a replacement helmet. Maybe the same strip, maybe widely separated.

Edit: As for binding wounds... I'm guessing there's a reason Pink-Ribbon Klik is on the scene by the third panel, helps slow Forgath's fall, and is featured in five out of seven panels in this update.

I'm imagining some sort of magic airlock type thing. The party in the maw needs to die or pass a certain point before the dungeon door puzzle resets.

Interesting. That klik on the right looks like it is holding a staff. A metal staff! Hmmm...

P.S. Anyone else think he looks like has a resemblance to Marvin? (...didn't have time to rehost an image, so I just linked a search result)
