I mean, provided it's some place I can even locate on a map, I'd be willing to even do some local second-hand shopping for possible gifting or at the very least help find a deal.
I mean....it's a shame to see a fellow archer without a bow.
I don't actually know :paranoia: ... and I -am- a forum regular. I think it's B.C.? Anyway, I just meant it's less densely populated than a lot of places. I'm sure Tarol would think "having to come up with a new stretch goal because someone gave Danielle a bow" was a pretty good problem to have, and I know Danielle would appreciate it, so if you find one in their area that would be really sweet :)

If you're serious about this I'd suggest sending a private message to WearsHats. He seems to be person who most strongly represents "Active in the Forums" and "Knows Thunt in the Not-the-Forums World".

They're not that far from Vancouver, but getting there involves taking a ferry. So they're kind of remote but if they want to get into the city for something they can get there and back but it's taking up a good chunk of the day.

And yeah, while good bows can get pretty expensive, I'm guessing they're not looking at anything around $4,000. That's probably more of a "we have enough income to buy some luxuries we wouldn't otherwise" mark.

HD version of the current unshaded page is in the Patreon activity feed. Thunt is still learning the interface, so it didn't get emailed out as a backer update. You have to go to the page and click through to the comments.

ETA: No, wait, that's not the HD version, after all. Thunt says he's still looking into how to upload a file that large.

Ah ... sweet economically sustainable art!

How about a Patreon button on the home page? It could go next to the TWC vote button (either above or below).

Just gotta randomly chime in and say I got a surprisingly nice old bow on ebay a while back for about a hundred bucks altogether, arrows and all. It doesn't matter if they're near you on craigslist. :p People ship things. It'd be a bit weird to like archery so much that you borrow equipment twice a week, but will only jump to a 4k bow. ;) Hell, I was starting to look at new ones myself, I haven't even come across something in that price range. Ebay, my friends.

As has been pointed out a few times already, he's not spending $4000 on a bow. The same way high level Kickstarter rewards are priced significantly higher than the actual cost or value of what you're getting. The same way it doesn't cost $1000 to make a video of him talking about GM tips.

2014 was a very bad year for him. He's got other things to worry about. He lost a lot of revenue. He needs to rebuild.

In short, that's not how stretch goals work. You don't hit the goal and then spend all the money on the one thing. He picked a thing they can do to celebrate hitting a high number, and that thing is buying something for his wife to support her hobby.

HD versions of the last few pages have been posted to the Patreon activity feed. If you're logged in as a patron who has pledged for the $3 and up reward levels, you'll be able to see the posts in the feed. Posts with attachments have a large orange paper clip in the upper right corner. Click the post title to open it as a full page. In the upper right corner you'll see a blue icon. (You may have to disable AdBlock for it to show up.) Click that to download the image file.

The current page (Shut Up) is about 9MB. The previous page (I Killed Chief) is about 7MB. You may also see a thumbnail of the current comic page a little lower down on the left. Do not click that. It's just a copy of the standard definition file that got uploaded to the main comic page, not the HD page. For the record, the SD version of the current page is about 900KB, a tenth the size of the HD page.

I'm agreeing with you, but I guess that's not as obvious as it could be given that I didn't bother to quote anyone. :D

Ah, I see. "It's totally unreasonable to spend that much on a bow" meaning "so of course that's not what he's doing" rather than "so why is he wasting that much money on one?" Glad we're in agreement. Sorry for misreading you. I do hope we've clarified the situation for those who misunderstood Thunt's intention.

BTW, a Patreon button for the main comic page is coming. Thunt said he had asked or was going to ask his webmaster to take care of it.

WearsHats wrote:For the record, he's not getting 95%. Patreon's FAQ explains that they keep a 5% commission off the top. But then there are credit card and PayPal transaction fees, which are another 4-5%. And then, for various reasons, a percentage of pledge payments will fail. "We're happy if a creator sees around $0.90 for every dollar!" Still, it's a lot more than he was getting before.
At $1.3K per page, with 2 pages, this should give Thunt up to $2.3K for his first month on Patreon, which isn't a bad start in my mind. (Pragmatically I'd guess $1.7-2.3 to account for growing pains.) And yes, I did need a calculator to get that number, but I blame the cold meds.

Has the first milestone video been put up yet? I was interested in it, but didn't know if I missed an announcement on it or if it's only available to Patreon subscribers

He will still have make that video.
Give him time, plenty. He needs to continue the comic, draw "meanwhile" sketches, and is fiddling around with the G:AR game...

Yeah, that's fair, I can totally wait, especially since I don't really have the funds to contribute myself. But I'm still confused as to if the video going to be public, or if I should find some way to donate

Any word on this front? I haven't been checking his twitter feed much, so I might have missed something. I'm curious about Thunt's approach to DMing.
