Aimee turns to look at the owl and her smile gets even bigger.
"I love birds! It's name is Lewis? Come here, sit with me Lewis."
She pats a crate next to her and says to Cal,
"I want a magic pet too? How'd you get one? Is it really an owl or is it a magical create in owl shape." She peers happily at the owl trying to discern is true nature but mostly just looking.

"How are you doing that?! That's one I've got to show the deckies on the Princess..."

Saca smiles quietly at the "revelation" of Lewis, the owl companion, but doesn't allow herself get too distracted.
"Kryz, if you're going to sit up front, do me a favour and don't sneeze sparks near the horses, please. They might scare."

Kryz looks surprised and then a moment of revelation crosses his face.
"Yeah, ok. Hey quick group question: have any of you ever met a dragonborn before me?"

Aimee looks back at Kryz from Lewis and says,
"Two! From a distance. They wouldn't let me go talk to them. So not actually meeting? I waved! One was green and one was silver. Both looked really tall. Taller than you I think."
She clears her throat and continues in stilted, broken draconic,
"But me have had much of time to learnings the words of the dragon. From the readings of papers glued together in the Academy all words are of knowing! Maybe me can practicing with us?"
She looks happily hopeful at Kryz.
((Wait till you hear her orcish!))

Kryz maintains his poker face and nods politely.
In draconic: "Your papers glued together in the Academy have clearly taught you well. I would be happy to practice with you!"
He will translate to common for any words she doesn't recognize, and watches the group to see if anyone else recognizes draconic.
Insight: 1D20 = [6] = 6
They don't seem to be paying attention I guess...

Saca frowns at Kryz' question not particularly caring for a recollection of those events. "I'm not sure. I ... met ... something ... kind of like you, but much, much bigger. Wasn't as friendly as you, either, and it didn't bother talking in my presence, so I wouldn't know if it wasn't able to or just not in the mood."

Re: D&D 5e: The Lost Mines of Phandelver
As the guard group starts moving, they slowly but surely move along the path shown to them in the map that Gundren showed them. The first day passed with no issue. The second day as well, with nary a problem. Then, on the third day, the group left the Royal Road. At roughly noon on the third day, the party enters the Triboar Trail. While the rougher dirt ground is harder on the cart's wheels, they aren't too far from the town of Phandelver.
Before too long, though, they see a strange site blocking the road. Two horses seem to be lying down next to each other, spread out and completely blocking the road!
Tell me both any actions you take, as well as your location on the cart. (Are you on the back, in the drivers bench, leading it, etc.)

Also, anybody who is investigating the horses needs to roll for Investigation. I'm not sure how rolling works for familiars, though.

(( We'll assume Balin is driving since he and the horses are getting along so well.))
Balin hauls back on the reins, bringing the cart to a halt. "Look lively. It appears someone has blockaded the road. Could be bandits. "
He pulls out his crossbow, cocks it and puts a bolt in it. ((readied action)) He then starts scanning around looking for trouble.
perception: 1D20+2 = [20]+2 = 22
He's VERY alert.

((If we were following the same setup as as when we left town, Balin was up front leading the horses, Kryz and Cal were on the bench, Aimee was in the back of the wagon and Saca was walking behind. Aimee was still in the back, facing back.))
Aimee looks up from her book and looks around.
"We camping again? Isn't it early? Or are we there!" She turns to see what is ahead.
She squints at the horses in the trail.
"They sleeping? Why would they sleep in the road?" The last she asks to Saca, the horse knower.
She hops off the wagon and walks up to bench, looking around as she goes, and asks in a whisper,
"Should we wake them? What bandits?"
Perception: 1D20+1 = [13]+1 = 14
((About how far are the horses from the front of the wagon?))

Perception (with active guidance cantrip): 1D20+1+1D4 = [16]+1+[3] = 20
EDIT: Sorry, my perception mofdifyer (wis) is actually +3, not +1 so the real value should be 22.
I thought it was the same as persuasion, for whatever reason...

Re: D&D 5e: The Lost Mines of Phandelver
Aimee and Kryz move forward to check out the horses while the rest stay near the cart. Lewis flies up trying to get a bird's eye view of the situation. It quickly becomes apparent that the horses aren't sleeping. Arrow shafts are sticking out of them, and the saddlebags are sliced open and emptied. Now that you guys have studied them a little, these horses look exactly like the ones that Gundren and Sildar road when leaving for Phandelver. Getting a wider look at the situation, Balin can see a map case that has fallen away from the horses.
Before anything else can be discovered though, four goblins jump out from the forest on the side of the trail, two on each side! Two of the goblins, each holding sharp looking scimitars, run up to Aimee and Kryz respectively and take a swing at them, each one connecting doing 8 damage to Aimee and Kriz both. Meanwhile, the remaining two who are holding shortbows each take a shot at Balin, doing 3 damage and Calrick who's small target helps him avoid the arrow.
Everybody roll for initiative.
Calrick 8/8
Balin 7/10
Kriz 1/9
Saca 11/11
Aimee 2/10

initiative: 1D20 = [6] = 6
Balin grunts as he takes a hit.
((Does Balin get to use his held action, or was this ambush too sudden for that?)) ((NM, just read the OOC . I'll post his action now, though. Going to be busy this morning.))
Balin pops off a shot in return, but a crossbow isn't his best weapon.
cross bow attack: 1D20 = [10] = 10
He curses, drops the cross bow and pulls out shield and hammer and hops down from the cart. "Come on then!"

Kryz (without Aimee being there) is almost certainly KO'd by those two goblin attacks (which is fine, he's pretty dumb )
