Okay, it appears that nobody else is willing to say it, so I will. While the rest of this update is awesome as usual, Forgath in the last panel both looks and sounds utterly ridiculous.

Looks: He apparently is part serpent himself, because he's opened his mouth so wide he could fit his entire head in it.

Sounds: "Yoo hoo, people who recently tried to kill me! I sure am consternated that you've arrived to find me helpless and easy to execute!" Clerics are supposed to have more Wisdom than this.

I have a confession: I've felt for a while now that Thunt's writing with Forgath has gotten really sloppy, perhaps irreparably so, in Book 5.

I have nothing against the way Forgath is written or drawn in general (though I do consider him the one character in the comic who looked better BEFORE colors; the pencil-shaded beard gave him a much more peaceful look which contrasted nicely with Minmax, and now Minmax looks basically the same but Forgath is way more martial-seeming). It's just this one panel I'm objecting to.

Psimax, better than anyone, understands what Oblivious is. I'm not really sure what that implies. If he can get his hands on it, I'm not sure what he can do. Remember, its power is proportional to the level of understanding the wielder has of what it is...
Maybe he gets destroyed by it, cause he, unlike Minmax, understands Oblivion. I just don't hope the sword gets destroyed, such a cool weapon and Minmax really earned it and uses it very smart (especially for someone with int as a dump stat). ;)
Unfortunately, Minmax has a long history of losing swords.

He started with a normal sword which got lost in Not-Walter's pit to Hell, then got the notched sword from the one-legged orc but lost it when it hit the Shield of Wonder, then he buys a new sword in Brassmoon which right away gets chopped in half by Dellyn Goblinslayer, then he takes Goblinslayer's wooden sword which I think got crushed by the belt buckle, and finally he got Oblivious. Honestly, it's only a matter of time before something happens to THAT too.

To be honest the Maze of Many storyline has largely been about Psimax and the Kin/Minmax romance developing. Forgath has been more of a third wheel for some time now and I imagine it's somewhat hard to come up with anything but purely reactionary lines when he's not a very strong part of the plot.

Not quite. As far as I can tell, the last appearance of the wooden sword is here, in which MM sets it down to his right while dealing with the "giant stone hole"; he then gets KB'ed into the wall to his right, and collared to the wall facing away from it, which means his right is now his left (also known as his other left). Later, oblivion holes open up to the right of him (that is, near his left hand), which probably aren't in the right place to have eaten the sword. So it's probably still there, it's just that Psimax dragged him out of the room, and by the time he went back to the room he had Oblivious (he might have stashed the wooden sword in his backpack as a spare, depending on how "kitchen sink" his player is, but since he never had a backpack the point is moot).

Actually, besides Kin's wild guessing on how Oblivious works, I have seen no indication that the power of Oblivious is really depending inversely on the int stat of the owner.

Would be a way for the DM (Herbert) to make sure Minmax stays a minmaxer. If he ever starts putting levels in intelligence, then the DM can take away the overpowered sword. The DM maybe only needed a way to balance Oblivious a bit.

Which would be another indication that Kin is a NPC played by the DM (Herbert).
And NPC will be removed before/when the task is done.

Why would a minmaxed fighter/barbarian ever want to raise Intelligence?

Don't forget IndyMax and ForestRangerMax; they also have hats. (The guy you're referring to might be IndyMax, I'm not sure.)

Anywho, I do love how apathetic Psimax is about being covered in Kin-juice. And I too am wondering why Forgath didn't fall, it seems almost unfair to be able to be multitasking so many things at once. Not that Psimax is even close to fair, of course.

Random thought, does anyone else ever imagine how much confusion someone who stopped reading Goblins for a year or so and then picked it back up, and looked at a panel with lots of Alternates (like this) one, would have? Poor potential guy.
He may not be multitasking to hold Forgath to the wall, it might have a duration to the spell. As an example it might have 5 turns per level or something like that to hold him up.

I think he splishked the wall or something and stuck Forgath into the cavity. See how the wall is affected around him?

I think you guys are onto something about Oblivious and levels of understanding. I suspect there is some obvious-to-him move that PsiMax is going to make that will screw him up. Suppose he grabs Oblivious with his creepy energy-hands? Would it absorb him, or short him out?

Maybe the Kins can find a gear they can reverse to un-splishk Kin's tail?

Just my thought, but I think it would be interesting it the MoM reset again but due to the damage it has sustained it does so incorrectly. Everyone still remembers everything and the parties are all randomized. That way we can see our FMK exit the maze intact but there is added drama of them having to survive and find each other.

50 Ways

"The problem is all inside your head", he said to me
The answer is easy if you take it logically
I'd like to help you in your struggle to be free
There must be fifty ways to end your lives

He said I'm still busy with my current Task
This is just a little favor I would like to ask,
And I'll repeat myself, at the risk of being crude
There must be fifty ways to end your lives
Fifty ways to end your lives

You have the collar break, Snake
Make a new plan, Psi man
Don't be a boob, Rub
Just get yourselves free
First kill the Goth, Forgath
You don't need to discuss much
A funeral pire, Saphire
And get yourselves free..

If the maze reset, and they had to go through another round, Thunt could sum it up with a single-page montage of them breezing through the Maze with all the grace of a fully-awakened Bill Murray, or he could just skip to them exiting the maze and not show us the next round at all. I think either option would keep the flow of the story, and wouldn't feel out of place.

Agreed. If they keep their memories after the reset and/or make it easy for themselves in some way, then we really don't need to see it.
