WELCOME TO DIABOLA
It is the far future. The earth is overpopulated and running desperately low on resources. The crime rate has risen tremendously with violent crimes and theft being particularly common as people have to go outside the law just to survive. With no more space to house them in the already overbloated prison system, a project is undertaken by the United Alliance of Earth.
Sidus Diabola is a massive prison station orbiting earth. It houses millions of inmates and staff alike from all over the world. Though officially designated a success by the UAE, things are about to get darker on Diabola.
During the offloading of a new shuttle of inmates, all power to Diabola goes offline. It only takes two minutes for the back-up generator to come online but by then itÔÇÖs too late. The riots have started in every corner of the ship and every radio signal to or from the ship is being intercepted and severed. Can you escape or get a rescue signal out in time?

This is a text-based survival horror roleplaying game that takes place on the Sidus Diabola (roughly Latinish for Devil's Star). Rules are very free-form, and mostly goes on what seems reasonable. Dicerolls or coinflips will be used occasionally depending on the situation. It's mostly a rule of reasonableness though. So if you have your character break open a vending machine to get food, you could do that though it might alert enemies to your presence so take caution. If you want your character to leap from table to table headshotting all the badguys then it will probably end badly for you. And remember, just because something is reasonable does not mean it will be successful. You will fail sometimes.
Good roleplaying will be rewarded but bad roleplaying will not be punished unless it's something totally egregious.

Inmates, now on the loose, are a primary concern as gangs, groups and dangerous individuals now stalk the halls of Diabola. Inmates range from weak to very strong and tend to travel in groups and are cunning and merciless. They sometimes have weapons or even guns and armor they pilfered from security officers.
Security Robots who previously assisted keeping prisoners in check have gone haywire and initiated their "shoot-on-sight" program. Very deadly and hard to take down. They walk on two-limbs and can fire conventional weaponry with deadly accuracy. They share a video and comm link to support each other. Not as cunning as human opponents though. (Think of the Geth).
Other Survivors have gone through hell and are likely as scared, hurt and frightened as you but you know what they say about cornered animals. Less dangerous than inmates though and could possibly be joined with, talked down, bargained with or shot for their supplies. The choice is yours but be careful, not everyone is stable.
A few Security Officers see the ship going to hell and decide they like it that way. Barely a step above inmates in morality, many liked causing pain or harassing inmates before the riots but now they have free reign and aren't likely to discriminate when abusing their powers. After all, when things calm down they can blame it all on the Inmates, right? Better armed, better trained than inmates. Extremely dangerous.

I am looking for six to ten players. If I get many more than that then I'll assign a number and roll an appropriate dice unless I think I can handle the extra. Nerre gets a guaranteed spot if he'd like it because I promised him a spot in another game that is still in development. The rest are open as of right now.
You will be playing CIVILIAN PERSONNEL. You are not an inmate or a guard or the warden. There are plenty of jobs for civilians on Diabola like janitor, nurse, chaplain, clerk, secretary, electrician, life-support repairman, teacher, psychologist, census taker, lunch lady, whatever. If it's a civilian job that could reasonably be found inside an earth prison or inside a space station it will do. You are just a regular person, that's part of what makes it survival horror.

As a survival horror game the tone will be dark and serious. Jokes are fine from characters trying to lighten the mood though. Guns and ammo will be precious, medical supplies will be few.
Combat will be dangerous and can be anywhere from common to infrequent depending on how you play the game.
Characters can die but I hope that won't be a common occurrence and I will never just decide to off a character. If no one is waiting for a character spot then the person who dies can cycle back in as a new character.

Just post your action as you normally would. Talk to other players in character, have fun, explore cause you never know what you might find to help you.
Roleplay gains more success. Saying: "Jeremy stays in the shadows." might get a success. Saying: "Jeremy holds his breath and keeps his body against the wall as he nervously watches the inmate stand just inches away from him. He can smell the inmate's rancid stench and has to hold back his nausea." would be considered good roleplay and would almost definitely get a success. Roleplaying won't save you from a dangerous or stupid action though, be warned.
I don't expect a novel every post though, just have fun and if your action is short and sweet without anything special than just post it.

Post a character sheet below to join. I'll comment if something needs clarified or changed but for the most part just create a character you'd like to play as. Be creative and remember that Diabola houses people and prisoners from all over the world. You all speak English though, as a native or second language.
Template:
Name -
Age -
Gender -
Occupation - this can help you. A nurse will get more detailed description when examining a wound, whereas an electrician might just know the guy was shot. The electrician would get more detailed description if examining a broken wiring box though. Seemingly useless jobs may even have a place too.
Appearance - can be as long or short as you'd like so long as we can visualize your character.
Personality - you roleplay according to this so it is important and please try to be respectful and keep the enjoyment of the other player's in mind too. Having a jackass who argues can be fun for everyone but a "Guy Who Shoots Everyone at the Slightest Provocation" would only be fun for you.
Skills and Weaknesses - be reasonable here. not everyone is good at everything or too many things and be certain that your weakness are actually weaknesses that will affect your character.
History - This should be fairly detailed as a person's history shapes who they are today. Also you may receive certain hidden bonuses depending on your history and it helps me set up your place in the world, write the game with you in mind and maybe include neat little things from your history.

As I said this is narrative only. I can't do artwork fast enough yet to get the updates out on time. Game might get updates in the form of maps or something eventually though. You post your actions and then I weave them into a larger, story post and tell you the results of your action and the new situation. Easy. Playing a game in this way requires a lot of trust between the players and the GM.
I hope to get a post out as soon as everyone has posted or at least once every two days. This is my first game and I don't want to promise more than I can deliver but I hope to be able to get updates out quick. Please be sure that you can reliably post in before you join.
Recruitment will last until sign-ups stop coming in regularly. If it's been more than three days since the last sign up and I have more than six people I will close the sign-ups and begin the game.
This is my first game ever. Please be patient and never be afraid to ask questions.
