Civilization V: Real Life in the way, calling it quits.

And-a one, and-a two...

I'm back! Didja miss me? ... ... ... *crickets* ... ... ... Ingrates. *dodges thrown anvils* Hey!

Anyhoo, it's time for a new Civilization. Not going back to Civ IV, as I don't have my notes and it was already well underway to being a survivable situation and I was (sorta) running out of ideas.

So, let's get some groundwork laid, shall we?

THE RACES

Rather than just goblins, I decided to open the field up to allow other breeds of "monster" as well. The tribe will be made up of the percentages of the votes, so if there's 10 votes and seven vote goblins and three vote Orcs, then the tribe is made up of 70% goblins and 30% Orcs. If people vote one of each for a mix of everything, then it'll be up to you to decide how the hell you can stop them from mass murdering each other (and I ain't helpin' ya). If you pick races that are incompatible, the starting tribe *will* still have the population made up of them but you'll have to design ways to stop them from going at each other's throats. Animosity is dangerous.

The top three races that get the most votes will have their racial powers available for the entire tribe. Each race also has racial Aspect modifiers, but I'm keeping those hidden; you can infer them from the descriptions below. You will start with a population of 2d150 (+100 if the result is less than 100).

Finally, on the advice of Badgeaddict, I'm adding something else. Each vote for a race shows you have some "investment" toward that race. If players go inactive or leave, those "shares" (as Badge put them) begin to shift. If one species finds itself no longer the 'dominant' race, and another one rises, it might make for some very interesting politics!

ASPECTS OF LIFE

Divine Casters start at Level 0 spells and get one level of spells for every 7 total levels (counting Aspect and Sub-Trees), so if you have Spiritual 5, and 3 in each of the Sub-Trees, that's 14 levels for a total of Level 2 spells. However, to advance a Spell Level as a tribe requires a Finest Hour as the first spell is "discovered" and becomes an event to remember. The roll for the new spell level might not be successful but can be reattempted every Midsummer thereafter (without using a Finest Hour).

Aspects level in multiples of 40, while Sub-Trees level in multiples of 21. I've done the math, If an Aspect is used every month and is successful all months of the year, that's 10 (.5 * 10 months + 2 + 3 for Midsummer and Winter's) plus 9 (.75 * 12 months) + 24 (potential high-end Winter's Meet EXP pool) + ?? (whatever you guys spend as EXP as the OTHER pool that is available) = 43 EXP or thereabouts.

That being said, let me know what you want. Give me your votes for starting race, location (just give me a basic scenery type, such as "rocky desert" "mountain", "Chain of islands" etc. shut up, madmartin o:) and tweaks (you can pick "no tweaks" if you don't like any of these). We'll begin the actual adventure in 600; the first three months will be setting up basic stuff before the game really gets underway.

Now, just to point out something to everyone. If a small race and a medium (or bigger) race are chosen, then you could have a mixed-race of intelligent player Riders and Mounts. (please keep this in mind when choosing races)

Starting Race: Drow

Preferred Starting Environment: Moderately sized island, or chain of islands. You know me so well. :P

universe tweaks:

Can i suggest a universe tweak? if so, then i suggest:

Underdark connections: The village is either underground, or sits on a large entrance to the underdark(Depending on the location terrain chosen). This gives the tribe access to the underdarks natural resources(Lots of metals, some gems, rare funguses) and to interaction(Trade, alliances, war) with underdark nations... BUT The underdark is inherently dangerous and dangerous beasts and roving bandits could come to call, not to mention that not all underdark nations are friendly.

Other universe tweaks(I'm choosing three total in case my idea is rejected/ because i want drow to be dominant):

Resource rich(Maybe the tribe was founded on a treasure island with a magical treasure the whole surface world wants, and adventurers and explorers are constantly trying to get it? other possibilities too)
Mysterious benefactor(I think it would be interesting to have a start location that is an abandoned fortress or outpost of a large civilization(Going with my underdark island idea, maybe it was an underdark nations surface outpost, large enough that the nation could get resources by sailing or from the island, but placed on the island so it is difficult for the aboveground civilizations to find and attack it).

I'm not sure how some of these will work together, but they're the ones that sound cool to me, and if i chose ones i liked slightly less that worked together, then it would probably be messed up by other peoples votes anyway. :)

Heavens, I waited for this, since you stopped the last Civ... I still miss Reaches...

Not to fond of the Characteroptions, but I'll give it a try... Another question before votes -> Can a player later shift his vote on races ? So, for example, if someone voted for Drow and later says : Bah... These Toads are much cooler... Could he shift to Grippli, resulting in a Power shift ?

And, will the population include the thought, that, even when a race dominates, another one can become much larger by population (For example, I see Drow, even with threee votes vs 1 beeing quickly boasted in terms of numbers by kobolds or goblins.

Adding my extra vote for the drow additional tweak, though i do think doing it this way is going to get confusing, and won't be fair in the long run. Should we just each choose three instead?

How is it unfair? everyone can vote trice if the Drow wins.
the reason to keep it separated is if the Drow don't win. Its easy for Aegis to take peoples 2 first votes instead of us all having to remove the third... :)
