The fun thing is: this morning I removed the vote button from my signature as he hasn't changed the incentive in a while.
And there is a new incentive.

The same last time I removed the button... :p

Also, it really looks more like a slapfight than a real fight to me.

You should add and remove the button more often!
That's how correlation and causation works, right? :P

Indeed. I thought about it.
When I removed it for the first time I did so by setting the size to 1, and left the text thus unvisible (and broke the tag). I thought about doing it so this morning, but decided against, as I wanted to get rid of the button long term anyway...

I call shenanigans at Twokinds votes...

TwoKinds is always all the way up there. I have my suspicions, but I don't really care enough to find out what's going on over there.
Goblins is still all the way up there, so it's cool :P

Only a small number of readers ever bother to vote. It's just a matter of persuading more of your readership to go to the effort. When Thunt posted frequent vote incentives, he shot to the top. When he didn't, he dropped several places. You don't need trickery to get to the top of TWC. You just need a bunch of pretty drawings.

Yeah, TwoKinds is pretty good about that. I mean, just look at this! They're updated very frequently, too, and there's a thumbnail on the site so I- so TK fans can tell easily.

TwoKinds are updated very frequently, yes. I don't remember exactly where and was unable to find easily, but there are messages posted somewhere regulary about the vote incentive that is changed with each page, iirc. It minght not actually be changed with each page, but it matters that most of the readers vote close to daily. In case of Goblins, most readers vote about once a week, when the new update appears.

Yeah I remember very early on in the first Goblins fan forum, on Snotling's site, some of the regulars piped up saying they voted daily and we figured out that just that small group (those particular regulars) of a small group (folks who signed up on the forum) of the fans made up a pretty sizable percentage of the total votes.

I don't question the quality of Twokinds, it's reader base zeal or any of other mentioned things. It's just the rate numbers. They have jumped in a day to 2.5 times the day before...

That could very well have something to do with the fact that the month hasn't been that long yet though, so the rise of votes can be quite spectacular. Ah well.

I don't think they cheat. What would be the point?

No point. Just one/several hardcore zealots of the webcomic with proxy bots to make their favorite number one. Not originating from Tom Fischbach.

It's possible someone cheated; it just doesn't seem worth the effort to me. I guess more power to them, if they did. It must be extremely important to them if they bothered.

Significantly less than 1% of readers bother to vote, and an even smaller number bother to vote daily. It all comes down to a dedicated core of fans plus the number you can tempt with vote incentives.

Votes on TWC are reset to zero each months, if I am not mistaken. That causes strange up and downs in the beginning of each month. I've seen 2kinds on the first spot many times over the last years, so don't colour me surprised they got there again.

Is it just me or is TWC not working properly? I've tried three different browsers.

ETA: Oh. Seems to be the link in your sig button, RS. The link on the comic page worked normally. Weird.

It's an issue witht he ad system of TWC.
I already informed them about 4 months ago, when this error appeared first.
They have a copy-and-paste error when delivering thehiveworks ads, and due to this, the HTML-tag for /url never comes, making the whole page one link for an ad. And because the link is ill-defined, the link itself does not even work.

Apparently, they do not wish to correct this, as their contact information page does not work, they don't react on mails and their own comment system, and on their forums... unworkable.

The old votefavourite (http://topwebcomics.com/members/votefav ... px?id=3288) seems to prefer ads by hiveworks.
the general link http://topwebcomics.com/vote/3288/default.aspx works mostly without hiveworks ads, or at least with the corrected code.
RS, can you change your signature to include x between the smilies ?

Code: Select all

TWC is a terrible website and has been this terrible for years. If there would be a popular alternative, that a lot of authors would switch to...
