Re: The Sundered Way
Szartha and company are in agreement, and you decide to push on through the night and into the morning. By the middle of the night, any calls or footprints were no longer able to be detected, it would seem the jackals are not keeping pace with you.
A few hours before dawn, Maji hears the creak of wood and leather from the east, accompanied by hoof falls...

Maji turns his head to the sounds, growling softly. He gives Randy a shushing noise and quickly writes down. Possible bandit or merchant.

Re: The Sundered Way
Randy nods and heads back to alert the others.
He quietly passes the word along. "Something coming in from the East. Maj thinks either a merchant or possibly a bandit."
He heads back to join Maj in waiting up front. When he gets there, "We'll assume a caravan until proven otherwise. Just be ready in case things go poorly. I'm going to set out a light so that they know we're here."
He digs out his lantern and uncovers it so that the spell light can be seen and sets it down in the road and takes up station about 10 feet away from it so he can be clearly seen leaning on his bow, but no arrow nocked.
Randy speaks clearly and loudly. "HO! WHO PASSES THIS NIGHT?"

Re: The Sundered Way
((I assume we're travelling with lamps of some form anyway, for the mules if for nothing else. Nem will have cast Light a bunch (thrice) to keep the caravans well-lit regardless))
"Accommodating travelling merchants would seem to be the traditional purpose of a trade route." Nem says with a grin.
"Do you want to scout ahead, or shall I?"

With the shout, zephyr straps her shield to her arm and jumps off the wagons, moving to the front on foot, to act as needed.

Re: The Sundered Way
((well, why doesn't Maji take over driving the cart and Nem will go stealth since she can see in the dark?))
If Maji agrees, Nem will sneak off to the side if the road (no more than 60 feet away, but in the dark, and somewhere she can see the carts and the road).
Stealth; Perception: 1D20+4 = [6]+4 = 10
1D20+4 = [14]+4 = 18

Re: The Sundered Way
(( Well, since she's starting in a lighted area, that means that Randy should notice something since his passive perception is 13 anyway...unless you feel he needs to roll for it, Spider? ))
Randy's head jerks around at the motion and noise behind him. He's sees Tess getting ready to "sneak" off. Loud whisper: "Tess!" He raises a finger to his lips. "Shhhh...." He turns back to the front and gives his attention to the darkness there, waiting to see if anyone will answer his hail.

Re: The Sundered Way
((You've got at least two continual flames that can be used to light things for the mules during travel, and Szartha can cast light, so I've been figuring those have been in use. Randy's sword I was assuming isn't being used as a torch. Tess can have another crack at Stealthing thanks to Randy.))
The sounds of movement shuffle to a halt in response to the hail, resumed a few moments later as three riders heel their mounts forward into view. The two flanking the central fellow are a pair of grim faced guards, loaded crossbows held in a down, but ready to draw, position.
The middle figure spreads his hands wide, one holding onto a long pole with a lantern swaying from its end as he smiles in greeting. "Well met, fellow travelers! I have the pleasure to be Eravin Tarfellion, part-time hero, part-time story teller, entertainer and lover extraordinaire, and full-time businessman! We are headed west to sell my wares, break hearts, dazzle taverns, and do deeds that need doing! And who might you be?"
His complexion is well tanned, with a neatly groomed goatee and an easy smile, and the two guards seem to have heard similar declarations from him in the past, as they don't take their eyes off of their surroundings to be distracted by his peacocking.

Re: The Sundered Way
Coljin smiles, glad to have met someone on the road that seems friendly.
He keeps his shield on his arm, but lowers the arm so he is not holding the shield in front of him.
"Well met, sirs." He greets the men. "And we are heading east, as you can see."
He lets the more in depth greetings to the other storytellers in this group.

Nem gets flustered and makes a meal of it.
Stealth: 1D20+4 = [3]+4 = 7
She decides to just flank the guy ((she'll move up the slope anyway, even if she's seen)).

Zephyr doesn't even look at the one who does the talking, instead choosing to size up the guards that flank him.
