I thought we agreed to stop speculating. They'll tell us what they can when they can. Hopefully soon, but just try to hang in there. Meantime, guessing isn't helping anyone.

Unless you have more information then us, i see no harm in some speculation.
Tarol might even be amused by some of it if he ever gets back. (Especially the otherworldly ones...)

There's no harm in the "Who Has The Wildest Theory" thread, where people come with their most off-the-wall theories. But the mod team has asked that people refrain from serious speculation, as it won't do any good and could potentially cause harm depending on what's actually going on.

Long time reader, just never created an account.
I actually agree with you, Groo_the_Wanderer. It's one of those things that had a pretty influential effect on people, then dropped off the radar with no actual explanation. Now that most of us are invested into the story, it really sucks to see it suffer like this. Oh well, I'm going to give it possibly another month at very best.
Thunt was actually pretty lucky. I mean, not everyone can pull off an engaging story like this and make it into a successful comic that generates actual livable income. Man, that would be an awesome dream! Quite a few web comic artist I have seen did it on the side of at least a part time job if not a full time one. He might end up having to get a regular job like the rest of us.

Gemi - Welcome. I think it's a bit early to put the comic in the past tense. We'll see.

Have you read this thread? A couple ways have been laid out that baseless speculation done by ignorant uninvolved people could be harmful.SculptsAir wrote:Unless you have more information then us, i see no harm in some speculation.
Of course, all those ways are based on certain assumptions - but we have no reason to assume that those assumptions are false. We also have no reason to assume they are true, but the path of lowest risk and best reward lies in respecting the possibility.

Uhm, Yes, i read all of both pages of this thread.
Or do you mean the 47 page long one? Of course i did not. Its 47 pages long. I read the first couple, a random one in the middle and the last pages.
Edit: Moved this into its own post.

Re: A month in ....
If Thunt was engaged in legal issues with a gag order (meaning he isn't allowed to talk about it to anybody) that would mean we shouldn't know what's going on.SculptsAir wrote:Uhm, Yes, i read all of both pages of this thread.

If, for whatever reason, somebody were to speculate what happened, the opposing party can use that as legal grounds against Thunt regardless if he actually did anything or not
Taking two outrageous (hopefully) idea
Let's say WearHats is suing Thunt for not giving him credit for giving him the idea of creating a comic with goblins in them
Thunt is told to stop writing about goblins and not talk about it till the judge decides who owns the idea of making comics with goblins in them.
WearsHats checks the forums and sees we speculated that maybe somebody was trying to sue Thunt because of this idea. He doesn't think anything of it thought because "hey, what do they know, there is a gag order).
A week passes and WearsHats car explodes. This is probably accidental because he hates getting his oil changed, however, he's pissed. He decides 'Hey, I bet one of those Gobliners did it! I'll show them' and decides to convince the judge that Thunt told somebody to bomb his car.
Thunt now has to battle both his legal issue AS WELL as trying to prove he didn't say anything. If he loses, he's in more shit. Even if he wins, he's wasted more time and making a poor example for his original case.
Alternatively, lets say we're wrong:
We guess WearsHats is trying to sue Thunt when in reality he doesn't even know whats going on. Soon he's getting flooded, harassed, and being impacted by our angry mob. He decides to now take legal action against Thunt. Thunt now has to deal with one (possible) legal issue and one real legal issue. If word of the second reaches the first, this can then be used as additional ammo against him
Overall the serious speculation isn't to protect us, its to protect Thunt (and in the end our community). As I mentioned before, there are probable real examples of why he's been quiet and why this is taking so long. If we were to start poking where we shouldn't, we may cause more issues
WearsHats: Using you as example as I feel it is outrageous enough to not make sense. Let me know and I'll gladly give them a John Doe name

Re: A month in ....
Note that i did not perform the art of speculation: The forming of a theory or conjecture without firm evidence.
I did not provide any theory. My conjecture is based on solid information. Well, as solidly as you can disprove a negative anyway. (Prove to me Thunt isn't waiting for someone to figure out that he is waiting for someone to figure out what he is doing.)
Or better yet, give me reasons to believe Thunt is in legal trouble. Now no speculations mind you, the mods wont allow that. Real solid information only.
Oh, and look at this little gem. You dare complain about me `speculating`?

Certainly not if you keep talking about it, dude.
There's hardly any point now, anyway. Speculation is highly unlikely to be harmful on the eve of exposition.

I thought I had heard he was going to do that, but then I reread all of goblins recently and it hadn't been changed so I was curious about it.RocketScientist wrote:I don't know. But Thunt is aware that Yuan-Ti is WotC brand identity, and will not be calling her a Yuan-Ti going forward. He posted quite a while ago that he planned to retroactively call her something else, and eventually change the comic text. I would be very suprised if he called her Yuan-Ti in the game, if she's in it.

So... that's a communication tool worth keeping in mind for the future.

Yes, that was very effective for me as well. Should (God Forbid) we need to deal with a similar situation, I would recommend that in the first post of such a thread, the suggestion be made to subscribe. I'm sure we have lost a number of readers who simply lurked, checked that thread (a number of the other ones professing to provide information went off topic, something I actively encouraged), and Goblins has since fallen off their radar, possibly never to return.Sessine wrote:I just wanted to note that subscribing to the mod topic worked very well indeed. Been checking the site on and off and it's getting to be a pain so I am putting my trust in the Mods.
I know... I know ... may Herbert have mercy on my soul ... I swear I can hear him saying "Are you sure you want to do that?"
