I don't see how "an individual from reality arbitrarily designated by the Maze as 156" is any more or less direct than "an individual who is currently on his 1,982,771st run through the Maze." I don't see any reason Psimax would be less vulnerable to being attacked by the one rather than the other.
The first number is a counter (and there is a chance of some other alt-verse being at the same counter stand, so it's not unique), the second one is a constant, which is usually easier to handle.
It doesn't have to uniquely identify them, though. (I probably shouldn't have used that word in my previous comment.) All that matters is that PsiMax be attacked by something related to that number. That's all we know. The rest is guesswork on our parts.

Granted, the number will change if the maze resets. But that doesn't matter. What matters is that PsiMax needs to be defeated now, this time. Before the maze resets.

So if 156 would have worked (if not for that number being fundamental to something else) then 1,982,771 should also work. It's a numerical attribute which applies to "our" MinMax in a specific, non-arbitrary way.

They can't just kill him, he'll just win next time after everyone else forgets. They're dooming anyone who doesn't win this time through to oblivion.

Hence why we are suggesting he be thrown into an oblivion hole.

Those two Kins' grins look awesome! They remind me of every time I had this brilliant idea and was able to finally focus and work on something knowing exactly what I was doing. Anyone else get those moments?

After all this, I'd like to see a spin-off comic following the adventures of the 3 kins after they save the day and change the rules to allow them to adventure together in one of the alt realities.
Agreed. Would make a great b-feature, like the Altsplanations, but with a plot.
It'll probably never happen with THunt's work load
He should hire more people to work on the Thuntiverse, with himself as editor-in-chief rather than doing all the actual comics.

My Dad always was a patron of mathematics, always believed that teaching math to everyone would open endless possibilities and allow for great achievements to be made for the world. Unfortunately, as he grew up, he was always frustrated with how very few people would see the importance of math, instead they were generally more into sports or skipping out of school or... art... Over the years of his time in school, his frustration grew until, one day, he vowed he would show the world how math could be the most important thing in this world, thus this page. This, everyone, is the whole reason he went into drawing and, therefore, the reason this comic exists, was to sucker you all into this important lesson: Knowing your math can save the universe, kids. Or dominate it, he really doesn't care either way....

...totally messing with you all, by the way!

I think the only successful way to kill the Psion has to be with oblivious. Otherwise he'll just respawn when the maze resets and probably succeed. He either has to no longer exist or has to be taken out of the maze.

LOL, nicely done, Dixon! 8)

And willpell, the thing to remember is that live mice are Kin's favorite food. I'm not sure I'd consider that a joke so much as a neat and thoughtful flourish.

Kin's frustrated-contemplation face in the second to last panel is just brilliant.

I loved the save the universe with math panels :) and how the golden bald turd will have his chance at redemption.
Kin is taking the loss of her tail like a real Roak orc. Biscuit'd be so proud.
As a Canadian: most Canadians use feet and inches for the height of human beings, and pounds for the weight of human beings. Square feet for home sizes.

After that, mostly metric. Unless you're old enough to have learned in Imperial or during the conversion. I feel like I'm forgetting at least one thing. Some people, regions, etc. will do metric even for those.

Loved this one. The grins on panel 4, "are you trying to kill us all" noodle incident, Forgath getting shut down for an idea that doesn't make sense (almost felt like a jossing). I like that we didn't take the easy way out of making our Minmax invincible. Didn't get the mouse thing at first until I read it on the forums, but I now appreciate it.

Won't someone help that poor dwarf get down off the wall? (Yeah, I know the 4 Kins have more important things to do, but how long's he gonna be stuck there?)

Not a math person but is there some reason they couldn't use either zero, a negative number, or an imaginary number? Something numeric that would relate to Oblivious? Or would that be impossible?

Oblivious doesn't exist, so there's no number that relates to it.

Edited to add: Also, although Sapphire doesn't know it, her reality number is either 54 or 12.

I think that line is a nod to the vast speculations about the significance of the number of the Psimax and how to decipher it, that took place here and elsewhere.

Although I might be msitaken.

Neither does zero. In fact, zero is the symbol we use every day to mean a non-existent value. The name stems from sifr, "empty" in Arabic. Why could that not be a legitimate connection?

Tarnagh, I was thinking the same thing - I've got to say, largely because I want to see MinMax chop PsiMax in half with Oblivious. o:)

IMO I would guess that it is a failsafe to not choose a prime number. If the kins are slightly misinterpreting what the numerical weakness means, then a prime number becomes a lottery pick. If, instead, they choose a nice number like 38 it opens up for more weaknesses while still being specific enough to push that weakness towards what they want.

There is no absolute proof that changing his weakness to 38 will make Psimax weak to Goldmax. If that doesn't work maybe the player that plays Minmax is 19, thus making Psimax slightly weaker when facing 2 Minmaxes. We (and they) don't know absolutely.

I don't quite understand why they can't use 156. I get that its a fundamental number for logic, but i don't get how they know that or how we were suppose to know that.

Comeon Goldmax you can do this!

PsiMax had used it in his machine as a fundamental number, but outside the machine it's not. The only way we would know that is because the Kinship used plot exposition to inform us. They know it because they are examining the machine and understanding what is going on within it.

And still, the Minmax we saw in the altsplanations, the one who tortured Goblinslayer to avenge his Kin and Forgath, has not appeared.
Hey, what if that's Goldmax? Sure, Grinnorarcen wasn't mentioned in the flashback, but then, he wouldn't be, cause he'd give too much away.

While that is a possibility, and it is backed up by the fact that 38's Kin and Forgath are nowhere to be found, I don't think so due to the fact that TortureMax was specifically stated to have a sword, while GoldMax wields a naginata type weapon. While it is possible he picked it up in the Maze and exchanged his sword for it, the skill with which he wields the naginata in the panels where he's fighting Forgath lead me to doubt it.

Though, honestly, knowing Minmax...

Did anyone else notice panel 7 is Onyx is missing green lips?

I love this scene, reminds me of fast brainstorming sessions for the smarty's of the party while the battlers of the world fight on endlessly. Although, not quite sure what the cleric is doing...

They will change the number to zero. Kin will tell Minmax to summon Oblivious. Psimax will gloat triumphantly and take Oblivious. Since Oblivious is an anomaly and doesn't really exist its number is zero so Psimax will wind up destroying himself.

Unless after reading this Thunt decides that Captain Atom is really Hawk. (some of you will know what I mean)
