Re: Patreon
This isn't as straight forward. I've personally only been able to find PDFs of the first two books available for sale online, so unless I'm missing something, it's not like a person could give a fair market price for all of the content Thunt has provided.WearsHats wrote: If you'd rather go by the price for a book, you can just buy the PDFs as they come out. Re: Patreon
Yeah, there are only two PDFs out now. 3 is in the works, but I'm not sure what the current holdup is. (I think there was some issue with switching publishers or something? He may not have gotten back on it in a while because he's been focusing on getting the comic back on track.) Which is why I said "as they come out."
There are different ways of supporting the comic. Reading it helps. The pageviews at the site help boost his worth to advertisers. (Though since ads are run through Hiveworks, I'm not sure how much of a difference it currently makes.) Ad revenue helps. Buying the PDFs helps. Spreading the word about the comic (by telling friends, voting in TWC, etc.) helps. Buying merch when it's available helps. Contributing to the Patreon helps. Do what works for you.
(Heck, if you want to direct donate, there's still a working donate button on Tempts Fate 10. I think they forgot it was there. They took the ones from the other tempts drives - including 11 - down. It's not what they're asking for, but if you really want to do it that way, you technically can.)
The PDFs are a good buy, though. They make it easier to reread the story (it's amazing how much of a difference it can make when you can instantly go from one page to the next instead of waiting for the next page in the archive to load) and they come with some nice bonus material you can't find anywhere else. (Then again, the print version of book 1 has a story that's not in the PDF. Otherwise, the PDFs have everything in the print version and more.)

Really? Rarely? LOL OK, any how. Besides you mods blatantly lying to cover the a** of the man you worship, for some reason, name one thing he actually delivered? Tempts Fate? No, spin it all you like, he didn't. On time updates? Nope. How about that card game? Oh boy, no. How about helping all the people who got ripped off during that whole ordeal? Did everyone get compensated? I doubt it. Spare me the "it wasn't his fault". It was. I am not the only person who knows this. Perhaps if more spoke up this crap would come to a stop.RocketScientist wrote:![]()
I'm just going to point back up to Wears Hats's post above. Thunt rarely asks for money, and he has delivered everything he has promised us in exchange for said rarely requested money. It's getting a quite tiresome seeing people imply that isn't the case.
As I said, I like goblins, but the drama surrounding it, and you fanboys vehement defense of Hunt is appalling. Why not hold him accountable for once before he screws his fans even worse than he already has? If he pulled this garbage at a real job, he would be fired at best, arrest and charged with fraud at worst.

Name one thing he has screwed any of his fans out of. And, if you are going to accuse him of doing something illegal, at least come up with some sort of crime that he as committed.Xavier78 wrote:As I said, I like goblins, but the drama surrounding it, and you fanboys vehement defense of Hunt is appalling. THunt didn't receive the funding from the Kickstarter, and he wasn't the one responsible for delivering the product. This has been corrected numerous times.

Re: Patreon
There is a loyal fanbase, willing to fork over a lot more than I would be willing. Not your problem, nor mine, nor theirs. We get our updates, we can follow the comic, all the shenanigans around it is out of our reach. I honestly think Tarol is a good guy, but I think he handles a lot of things in the wrong way. In the end it just means I won't give him a dime except for ad revenue and perhaps in the near future buying the PDFs. Not to support Tarol, but to pay for something I like. Tarol and his product are two different things entirely.
It's not that hard to see Tarol and Goblins as separate things, even though he doesn't draw the line between his work and private life. That others don't do that, or want to give him their money for the person he is, that's their thing, and their thing alone.

Did Thunt start the kickstarter? Did Thunt develop the card game? Did anyone send Thunt money for this game? No,no, and no.Xavier78 wrote:How about that card game? Oh boy, no.
He seems to feel bad about it and intends to deliver s.th. That's more than you can expect.Xavier78 wrote:How about helping all the people who got ripped off during that whole ordeal? Did everyone get compensated?
How do you know? All public records show that evertide started the project, promised deliverables, collected the money, failed.... Please provide evidence.Xavier78 wrote:I am not the only person who knows this.
Thunt was maybe a tad too enthusiastic in advertising this project, and this may have come over as Thunt being more involved than he actually was. But public record is clear. Evertide Games is the sole project manager.
Well, we are fanboys, after all.Xavier78 wrote:As I said, I like goblins, but the drama surrounding it, and you fanboys vehement defense of Hunt is appalling.

Re: Patreon
The idea of what a troll is on this forum continues to amaze me. I doubt Xavier deliberately tried to provoke an emotional response, he/she just stated an opinion that doesn't fall well in this community. That's not what trolling is. Saying he/she is falling out of line, sure. Branding him/her with a label that dismisses his/her arguments because they are meant to be malign is another thing. Sure, the discussion is tiring. That doesn't make the opposing arguments "trolling".
I feel smart, but I'm pretty sure I'm an idiot.

Re: Patreon

Xavier78, please take RS's recent warning as a very large warning. I know that you've been talked to before. Also, the information you've been complaining about has been mentioned numerous times in the past, as well as previously in this very thread. I know, I've seen it. I cannot make you read it, nor make you comprehend it. I can, however, keep you from annoying the other members here. The next time will get you a temp ban.
If you take issue with this, please feel free to PM me. Otherwise, please refrain from commentary that doesn't regard THunt's Patreon account.
Regards,
Wolfie

Re: Patreon
Starting an argument? Check. Inflammatory message? Check. Deliberate intent? Sure. We're discussing the patreon, and someone has to chime in about all of Thunt's supposed failures, someone who has been warned previosuly, knows how the community will react, and probably knows that this opinion has also been raised and argued ad nauseum. In Internet slang, a troll (/ˈtroʊl/, /ˈtrɒl/) is a person who sows discord on the Internet by starting arguments or upsetting people,[1] by posting inflammatory,[2] extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community (such as a newsgroup, forum, chat room, or blog) with the deliberate intent of provoking readers into an emotional response[3] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.[4]
Troll.
I honestly, honestly don't care if people have opinions different to mine, or disagree with Thunt's approach and/or shortcomings. What I get sick of is people constantly needing to bring this shit up and piss everyone else off when they know it causes a stir. Its not censorship, its fatigue. Its tiresome. Like having to constantly hear stories from my Grandmother about the cat she used to have. Move on. If you don't like it, don't give him money. Nuff said.
EDIT: Sorry, bad day. But I'm grumpy so I'm gonna let this stand

Re: Patreon
On the topic of the Patreon, personally I'm not currently in a position where I can afford to support it. Still got a few months left till I graduate, but once I do my income will be large enough that I'd be quite interested in an option allowing me to buy past high definition versions of comic pages in addition to supporting the Patreon. So if something like that could be implemented relatively easily via some automated process I'd love it. Otherwise I guess I just have to wait for the PDF versions of the comic to catch up

For some reason I enjoy watching patreon pages from webcomics just to see how much money they make XD I like how Thunt is now up to a nice 767 Dollar per page (minus whatever fees may apply) but still, if he gets up to one page a week he'd be making some nice profit from the comic

Re: Patreon
Not that I'm trying to pick holes, but, from the Patreon:
"Danielle is really, really into archery. Once or twice a week she goes to archery practice and uses borrowed equipment (except for her bracer, she made that herself). For years, she's dreamed of having her own bow, with her own arrows. The problem with this, is it's very expensive. "
It really isn't. My current bow came with a case, arrows and bracer, all from some guy on craigslist for around $100. And that's not a strange or special occurrence, I frequently see people decide they'd had enough of archery and just dump everything on craigslist for a pittance just to be rid of it. And even if you're buying new, getting a nice bow and arrow set can be as little as $120 if you shop around.
I don't know, I don't know where Tarol is, but I somehow doubt archery equipment costs $4000 (and yes, I recognize the $4K mark is a milestone at which they'll have enough overhead to spend the smaller amount, I'm being a tad factious on that last part).

Remember the family live in a very out-of-the-way place, which may bring the number of available second hand bows on things like Craigslist down nearer to 0. And, while you covered it yourself at the end of your post, I want to reiterate that maybe a bow is on their list of "unnecessary extravagances" that they won't be buying at any stage, regardless of their budget, until they're in the realms of serious money - maybe it's not even something they're going to save for, because it's not a necessity or whatever. It's an unusual thing to make a Patreon goal out of, sure, but saying they should be able to get a bow right now because maths is just you applying your views on finance to their situation without any inside info.

Where exactly is this out of the way place, anyway? I'm not a forum regular, please excuse my ignorance.
I mean, provided it's some place I can even locate on a map, I'd be willing to even do some local second-hand shopping for possible gifting or at the very least help find a deal.
I mean....it's a shame to see a fellow archer without a bow.
