2 things are true here...1 = first time as killer (not knowing how many clues i needed to give, etc) 2 = i didn't know about this common courtesy...
why do i mention this? because if i had known, i would have created less clues as opposed to more.

The host sees all clues when a kill is submitted anyway. They can judge whether the clues are suitable or not.

But, occasionally, the general population finds the clues tougher than the DM expects.
