May 3, 2015: Talking in Colours

Post by Simon » Sun May 03, 2015 11:30 pm

http://www.goblinscomic.org/05032015/

I love the interactions between Minmax and Complains :P
I wonder what the light means. If it is part of a trap, it would be better set to Minmax (as it is now) because I think he'd be more likely to withstand any damage.

And if this is a trap, would a mute party be able to get through unharmed? The light didn't change colour until they started speaking did it?

It's possible that this is both a trap and a bonus, and Minmax is selected to be the main person targeted for anything the dungeon has.

(Also, have I put the date correct in the title? That's the date on the comic URL.)

I would have called it "Talking In Colors", myself.

Complains will insult you when he's damn well and ready to, Minmax!

The weird yellow one...
I wonder how fun it will be when Minmax finds out that the goblins are adventurers and have levels.

3 May 2015: Talking Colours

Post by Krulle » Mon May 04, 2015 12:35 am

Well done, Big Ears!
It also looks like the hallway will not have changing colours.

Wild speculation: the colour coding sets who can open the exit door, so the whole team might be stuck if they let Minmax die. Or they need to go all back to this first room to set the key colour to a different member of the party.

Yeah, I couldn't really think of what to put without being too spoilery. Your title sounds better though, so I've changed it :)

I am surprised none noticed the lack of color change in the room during Minmax/Complains conversation or that Thaco didn't comment on it...

Aha, Sessine, you were correct re: limbs, it seems - as they're described as bones here. But they don't match the stone faces in the walls. Let's see what they turn out to be attached to... :s

By the way, last time we saw Minmax's hand through the oblivious-time-hole, the armor was greyish in reddish surroundings. So, he's not summoning sword any time soon, while he's yellow.

There is a change; Complains has a lighter shade of violet than Minimax, I think. Maybe it's class-based, since they both have levels in barbarian.

It seems that Minmax's gloves switched places in the last two panels.

Indeed, that seems like a continuity error. In the page Speaks linked, the free fingers are on the left hand, and in the new page it's the right hand.

Complains had an ime before levels, it is presumably innate.

On the previous page free fingers were on the left too, so this page seems to require a fix.

Definitely needs a fix, unless it has another feature besides the color switching. It switches during this page - on the third panel we can see bear thumb and, perhaps fingers, but fingers coloration is hard, thumb is definitely bare. All on the left hand. Last two panels - right hand.

Small correction to transcription: it's not Big Ears who says "Have you two considered...". It's Thaco.

It makes more sense Thaco would be the one to figure out downside possibilities.

The corridor behind the secret door appears quite different now that the fully shaded version is up. Go look at it!

Everywhere.

I just got a really evil idea. What if that thing is recording the sequence of IMEs since they started talking in there, and in order to open the exit of the dungeon later they need to reproduce the same sequence?

My theory for the traps is that those circle...things (?) are going to become alive as they move past somehow. Now that the page is shaded/colored, they look spider-ish to me. They didn't really in the pencil-version, but now that the tab things were changed to bone things, it reminds be of some sort of creature. Maybe it's just me, but I'm calling it :P

Otherwise I have no ideas.

Also, Zathyr's idea is super evil, that would be horrible to have to remember and recreate.
I do like the idea of the last person talking being the key, though.

I am worried about the fact that the left part of the staircase is crumbled a bit. It was like that since the pencil draft.

The first room was red before our heroes came here, it's believable that they are NOT the first adventurers in the dungeon ever. It makes sense that the crumbled part of the staircase is caused by some of the traps.

I vote smashy type.

P.S. And yeah, Zephyr is very spot on in that the things on the circles of the round slabs disappeared in the finished version. That is interesting. They are all replaced with more creepy bones.
These bones look spiderly. Thinking about bone-webs and bone-laying spiders now.

Yes, those crumbled steps are interesting. While the structural damage is still there from (probably) a previous party's encounter... there are no remains of adventurers. Two possibilities: a previous group got through this without anyone dying? Or... the bodies were eaten.
