"Of course. I heard that something tunneled into the sewers. You heard about those two that got jumped last night? Something came out and snatched them. Probably wanted to drag them back to its lair and eat them! Don't need to tell the Commander, but I'm happy to guard a drainpipe rather than climb down in the dark to tangle with whatever that is!"

The four guards still in command of their own bodies stab at the creature, but only one manages to hit.
As the figure in the middle tank is lowered into the waiting arms of the guards, they and Coljin can see that his skin is lightly covered by faint tattooing. The guards take the weight of him, and pull the mask back, revealing a similarly tattooed face with some sort of stylized lizard or dragon along one cheek, and a tattoo down the middle of the face. A line runs up over the lips, up the nose to the forehead, where it curls over the left eye before circling a start in the middle of the forehead, the line ending over the right eye. He takes a shuddering gasp, blinking and looking around with unfocused eyes as he rasps out something Coljin and the guards can't understand.

Ulmwin is tired of this beast forcing it's way through... Time to chase it off, and proc a whole bunch of AOO!

3d6 = [6, 5, 1] = 12

(DC 13 spell save, has to spend it's reaction fleeing if it fails!)

(...Also, I think I might have forgotten to note down some spells I used, but I'm pretty sure I had at least 1-2 left... )

The creature hoots and wheezes at Ulmwin's disturbing sounds, but stands its ground.

The guards helping Subject Two down from the tank's harness look to Coljin.

"Can you do anything? Do we unhook him?", Junara asks.

Some of the guards not affected by the creature's cry move around to get in position, but can't get at it.

For its part, the creature's spindly legs test the air, seeming particularly interested in Dornikal, Anders, and two of the guards. A cluster of legs jam themselves into the guard still carrying a lantern near the south edge of the portal, gouging coin sized gobbets of flesh and conveying them to the maw hidden within. On the other side of the creature, legs dart out at another guard, but clatter off a hastily raised shield.

Randy tries for another shot.

Longbow: 1d20+5 = [8] = 13 ((Pretty sure that missed.))

Too many guards are in the way and the shot goes wide.

"Don't unhook him yet." Cojlin advises the guards. "Ulmwin, we'll need you here to understand him."
He will move over and cast cure wounds on the man (ancient gnome!, he hopes)

(Coljin wants to do a medical check on him next round before doing any unhooking of gadgets, hoping the man will survive)

Cure wounds : 1D8+5+3 = [6]+5+3 = 14

"That's the thing, I've only heard somewhere north."

"Must be outside the city a ways then... No telling what it might lead to."

One of the guards perks up. "I heard shouting..."

"We can't leave our post, can you see what's going on, and if we have new orders?"

"I... Oh yeah. I'll go see. Should be reporting back anyway."

Nem keeps her disguise up, but sneaks back to the command past as best she can, trying to see what the commotion is without being dragged into it. She sends Ily back into the sewer to approach from that side.

Ily pads off slowly into the dark, stepping primly over the worst of the 'debris'.

Getting closer to the barricaded alley, you see the guards raising their crossbows from being trained down-alley, and a squad pushing past to rush into the alley. They return shortly, bearing wounded.

Randy arcs a shot over the portal, missing the creature, but at least not blowing out the back of any guard's head.

Coljin grasps the fellow's shoulder, the pallid skin loose under his grasp, as he casts his spell. His features relax a bit, and he breathes easier. Coljin does note gnomish features, though lacking in any hair, and odd for the coverage of faint tattoos.

The guards around the creature, having managed to shake off it's terror in light of it devouring one of their own, launch spear attacks at it, and Anders swings his sword, but only one guard, and Anders' second thrust score hits.

Some of them are pretty dirty and bloody, but it's dirty and bloody guard uniforms. Those few in somewhat better shape are being guided to the command tent as a pair of wagons pull up and the more severely injured are being loaded into the back.

Ulmwin's gonna ask for an escort back to the gnome- And sling another vicious mockery at the creature while he's at it.

The creature seems unaffected by Ulmwin's hurtful words, but at least the water level has fallen enough that it doesn't hamper his guard's movement. It is low enough that the gnomes can move around normally, but the guard can cover ground more quickly, and soon deposits Ulmwin next to Coljin and the odd gnomish Subject Two.

Dornikal manages to jab his blade in past the legs, sinking into tough flesh.

Holger doesn't have a clear shot that doesn't run a risk of hitting a guard, so holds his shot for now.

The creature attempts to retaliate against Dornikal, but the dwarf fends the blows off.

Nem stops pretending to be stealthy and goes to someone who's helping the injured out (and offers her assistance).

"I don't know, they just showed up at the gate, we ran and unlocked it to bring them out, think the Commander's debriefing those that are in better shape. They said Anders' company was still down there with the reinforcements..."

She thanks you as you get one of the injured and field bandaged guards into the wagon.

"I gotta get them to medical, can you let them know we'll send the carts back for the others as soon as we can?"

You notice one of the more lucid guards, cradling an injured arm as he's lead away towards the Commander looking up in confusion.

Randy moves north 2 spaces so he can shoot between guard 4 and 9.

longbow: 1d20+5 = [19] = 24

Longbow damage: 1d8+3 = [6] = 9

Planar warrior: 1d8 = [2] = 2

Total: 11

Gate dice:1d10 = [3] = 3
