01-Oct-2024 - Bumptown

Post by Krulle »

As expected, Elli didn't make her third comic page last month.
Let's hope this month will be better.

https://www.goblinscomic.com/comic/page-13-2024

And please do not replace B with TR

The page has not yet been BOOPed on twitter, so the image may still change with some finishing touches.

Maybe technically she got this one in under the wire but I’m not sure, I’d say that was a 1-page month.

These are some classic Goblins designs right here. Insane expressions, feet as wide as their waists, knees three feet to the side of their heads.

I wonder how these townspeople managed to see the monster and survive.

something really weird with the right-most Huzzah dude

Lighting maybe, or I dunno.

Missed a layer of updates on him or somehting?

Looks like a cardboard cutout compared to everyone else. In all panels actually, like he's drawn by someone else not Ellie.

Well, he is a reference to someone else:

Does anyone know which video Elli is referring to?
I don't know it.

[edit] found something, which looks very much like the guy here:

[edit2]Sorry, first link deleted, as that links to someone who "stole" the video and represented it as his own.
The video series is "Playing an RPG for the first time"

If I have to hazard a guess based on the first panel, the ones that ran quick enough closed the wooden gate behind them, shutting Junior and the slow ones out. Then the monster did not bother to either break in nor climb in and ventured along.

Alternatively, it went through the settlement anyway (we just don't see the massacre inside, because they closed the gate afterwards), but did not bother to chase or seek out targets, so the ones that locked themselves in/hid somewhere managed to live on.

@Krulle, nice finding! That probably is the original Elli is referring to. Tbh, I did not find it that amazing, but then again, tastes differ.

It gave me a smile, but I agree, it is far from being "one of the funniest video on the intertubes"
But then, Elli is a DM.

I don't think they are townspeople. I think they are a posse comitatus or perhaps a militia from another town. "You will pay for slaughtering these innocent citizen of Bumptown" does not sound like anything a neighbour/relative/friend of someone ripped to shreds would say.

Good observation.
Yet, they are astonishingly fast at the location, much faster than I would expect from a neighbouring town.
But then, they may have wanted to participated at the festivities (although unusually to come after lights are off - only in very modern times such walks through the woods were done after sundown).

Not people of this town, agreed. Perhaps they’re not even towns-people at all, but city-folk! Or woods-persons.
So - the scenario must be, a survivor of the massacre (who saw but did not engage the monster) ran, informed, and fetched the posse, who now arrive on the scene and engage the party. That would also explain why they’re outside the (3-story?) walls; maybe they haven’t even been inside yet.

Nah. Reason why they are outside of the wall is the same as why the wall is so high. It's a bother to draw a town as a background. Planks are easier. ;)

All single posts, too! Imagine the trees they had to fell for that section of wall.

Fortunately they reconsidered the scale of their engineering and dropped the height from 30 feet to 10 feet to the left of the doors. Or, the weapon-wielding creatures who just arrived are giants. There’s still a lot to learn about this unfolding scenario! And that’s all before we get whatever evidence there is that proves the devil-costume villager is an adult, maybe one of these giants was on his way to that guy’s retirement party, or bar mitzvah gifts will be scattered around his ruined house or something.

What is that giant wall even doing? I assume there are ramparts on top of it, hidden on the backside. People has been shown to be able to scale it somehow.
Or perhaps it's not a wall at all but some kind of dam designed to keep that dangerously almost overflowing creek at bay anytime it rains? I mean, the water is straight up to the fundament of that incredible hovering bridge already. One more foot of water and that town is going to have a bad time.

And who closed the gates?
https://www.goblinscomic.com/comic/page-10-2024 : open gates
And now we see the gates closed, and even a trail of blood under the gates.

Did someone imprison the green monster Junior inside the village?

Someone closed the gate inbetwix our gang spotting the town and reaching it. They even took down the not-hell-banner while they approached.

Biscuit was pitched as really observative, but it seems the cookies distracted him from noticing those things changing while they walked towards the town.

Yeah, I will be shocked if she gets another one in before the end of the month. Maybe it's related to her computer problems? I assume that the repair shop is a better idea for her than trying to get a replacement, but then I don't know the details of her computer. I suppose she can always set up another GoFundMe if she needs a new computer. She always seems to have a lot of people willing to donate.
