What's holding you back from the KS?
I've seen a few people mention in various places that they'd like to support the Kickstarter (or pledge more to it), but...
Are you one of them? Tell us about it.
Lack of funds? Have funds but no credit card? Have qualms? No one to play with? Something else?
Maybe we can figure something out.

No one to play with and money that should be going to medical bills. Sorry Thunt
I can't find ANY fantasy fans around here and no-one reads Goblins. I have no friends at all IRL either so... Add the the fact that i am terribly socially awkward and tend to not enjoy the company of other people and you've got a card game that will forever sit in the box.
I'd buy the crap out of a T-Shirt or Keychain though if I could afford it

Re: What's holding you back from the KS?
Sorry to hear that, BeanDip.
I'm pretty much out of RL friends, too. I've got friends scattered across the globe, but hardly anyone within 100 miles. I'm planning to play the game here on the forums.
Keychain doesn't exist (AFAIK), but, if you're okay with giving me your address, I can maybe get you a shirt.

Re: What's holding you back from the KS?
Thanks but I try not to take money from others whenever possible. It hurts me deeply that I need so much assistance to deal with these bills at all :/
Foolish pride surely but taking money makes me feel bad.

Re: What's holding you back from the KS?
You're not alone in that. It's understandable. But how do you feel about get well presents?
You can still say no. Or just ignore this. I don't want to push you into something that makes you uncomfortable. But making people happy is what makes me happy.
I'm already a backer. I can probably get an extra shirt without too much trouble.

I think a lot of debit cards work as a credit card too. I know mine does.

Well.. its payment by Amazon...
according to theire site:
mazon Payments accepts verified U.S. bank accounts, credit cards, and transfers from your available Amazon Payments account balance. Credit cards currently accepted include Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express, Diners Club, and JCB.
You must verify your bank account before you can use a bank account as a payment method. For your convenience, there are two methods of verification available: Instant Account Verification and Random Deposits. For more information, see Adding a Bank Account.
To verify with Instant Account verification, you use your bank login credentials through Amazon's secure website to contact your bank. Verification using this method takes only a few minutes.
To verify with Random Deposits, Amazon deposits two small random amounts to the checking account you specify. When the deposits are registered with your bank, you verify the amounts with Amazon. Verification using this method takes from five to seven business days.

For me, it's both the lack of anyone to play with, and that I have no means of backing something online. If I could somehow donate using physical cash, I would without hesitation.

Yeah, for me it's definitely the lack of people to play with. I could probably even support to the last level of the kickstarter but it's just not worth it because the only other person I know who reads Goblins is my brother who lives far from me.

I plan on busting this game out for my DnD group and seeing how they like it. Even if they do not enjoy it I have another two Goblins readers here at will play with me.

How is the Kickstarter progressing? I'm not a Kickstartee, but will probably get the game when it comes out. Similar situation for me, no players local. There are some an hour away that play every weekend, but it's a drive I rarely make.

These things keep me from it. I'm so poor it's sad and I don't have anyone to play with even if I wasn't.

Re: What's holding you back from the KS?
Wait twelve years and my son(s) will play with me.
Right now, he is not very fond of rules, except if he can apply them to his advantage....
So, it's rather a lack of time to play.
The shipping funds to Europe.
No real means to support US based projects.
An already very large games collection (about 30 unopened board games, another 10 open but not yet played, and some 120 games stocked somewhere...). Some of them I really want to play and do not find the time to play them :(
So stacking space is another issue.
My unwillingness to spend money will my current situation is not that rosy (but it's stable and clearing up nicely, better than predicted).
The real reason is, that this project does not support Thunt, it supports Evertide Games, and "only" by extension Thunt.

My son's 5. I'm looking around for games I can play with him as he grows, and this looks like one he'll be ready for in a few years. He's got the same lack of patience all kids his age do.Krulle wrote:Wait twelve years and my son(s) will play with me.

Re: What's holding you back from the KS?
I've actually got a 3 year old. She's too young for this (and yours is almost there, but getting close), but there is a very simple way to play that is kid friendly if you want to ignore all the rules and focus on just the numbered stats.Master TMO wrote:My son's 5. It's pretty simple: You play exactly like normal but without action cards. Then, you ignore all the rules text and focus on just the stats.
Each turn you pick an encounter to go on, add up the stats of your characters (simple addition skills required, all numbers less than 20). Every time you win, remove a quest token from your pile and take 1 treasure card (any value).
It's not award winning design, but it has some core concepts kids could understand. Color matching (add up all the reds), simple addition, treasure collecting, goal setting.

I'm sorry you feel that way. I can't speak personally for Tarol, but I like to think of everything Evertide does as a real partnership. If it doesn't benefit the people we work for, why do it? This is about passion for something I love (design), and creating experiences that are unique and interesting. The world Tarol created is and rich and vibrant. Getting to bring that to life in a different way than the comic has been a special privilege. I hope I've created something that he'll enjoy as much as I do. And I hope that means you guys will enjoy it to.Krulle wrote:...

Re: What's holding you back from the KS?
Well, this is more to say that while I love reading Thunt's enthusiasm about G:AR, which definately proves that the creation of this game DOES make him happy and thus supports him, my prefence is towards a more direct support... (once my banking accounts are out, and one other, more personal problem, can be avoided; I am thinking more of Tempts Fate drives...).innuendo wrote:I'm sorry you feel that way. But support is not all financial, and you do a great job of energizing him!

Re: What's holding you back from the KS?
I will point out that Thunt will benefit (directly and indirectly) from the success of this project. So if you support it, you will be supporting him. Which is part of what motivated me to pledge as much as I have.

Re: What's holding you back from the KS?
I don't have a credit card, so I couldn't, but to be honest that's not why I'm not contributing.
I just don't have 50 bucks I can afford to part with right now, on account of being a student with no source of revenue (my parents pay for the necessities but this not being a necessity...), besides summer jobs and I'll probably be unable to get such a summer job this year, which means my next paycheck is over a year from today.

Re: What's holding you back from the KS?
While I have people who would play the game with me I don't have the money to reach the level I want to, that and donating is a very inconvenient process for me which I'd rather not detail. Unfortunately I play a lot of games, and it gets in the way of important stuff, a lot. A few of those already cost money on a semi-regular basis so adding another game with updates would be both damaging to my already weak time management and my financial security. Not that I necessary think this game would be insanely expensive but my pay checks aren't consistent at all; sizable enough that I can get by, but inconsistent. (One paycheck this summer! O.O )
I wanted to donate at the level where I would receive future expansions in order to save money long term but unfortunately that's just not feasibly possible financially during the period of the kickstarter.
It's funny, (Well not really but in a sick sort of way,) I was under the impression that the price point for donating for the expansions but lower than it is so I had budgeted to be able to donate at the lower price point and as such I spent money on other things and now I don't have enough to do it.
So yeah, money and means of donating are both kind of irritating for me.

Re: What's holding you back from the KS?
I'd feel bad spending money on this as right now we are a one-income family this year while I retrain as a high school maths teacher.
My wife would probably say I could spend money on the game, but it would feel like I was spending her money on a game she almost certainly won't want to play.

Re: What's holding you back from the KS?
No one in this thread should apologize for not having the funds to back. We love the support either way. I know that sounds hollow but I mean it. It's really cool to see people want to support, even if they can't.
Plus, at this point (thanks to all the other crazy people out there) the game is going to be available after the kickstarter. So hopefully, once the game is out, your situation has changed and you guys can enjoy it.

Re: What's holding you back from the KS?
Finally, I managed to come up with a little extra cash for the kickstarter. YAY!
It was only $11 and I wish I had more to pledge. But I am happy to pitch in and see this get off the ground.
