Re: Civilization V: Heart of the Maelstrom: 600.01
A) Make an example of a Centaur or Wemic (or Pony or Goblin) to keep the rest of the races in check? Why the hell ? WHY ? What use is in loosing workforce, pissing the players that wanted the said race in and making later bigger trouble because of grief... Especially when the relationship is now at least neutral for all of them...
B) Attempt to "butter up" or bribe the Fire Giants? They seem to like you. Could be good, but if the roll fails critically, we are dead meat.
C) Clear out a cave-in and go exploring? Would make things intresting... Or not. Or bring more shit.
D) Attempt to scry the meaning of this "13" that keeps popping up? I remember waht at the start of the last Civ happened, when we started to wildly scry around - We made someone look after us, before we were barely ready for it... On the other hand, Information is power...
E) Focus mostly on trying to de-mineralize the water of Sulfur Lake so you can establish working farms? Now THAT is a no-brainer. We need food. And we need it soon. Also we need drinkable water.
F) Focus more on breaking the slaves (the goblins and ponies) to do your bidding? See point 1. Also I don't like two races being enslaved from the start, but done is done.
G) Search for traces of where the Rhinocodiles were coming from? They're not heat resistant... Hrrrrm... Yep. At least, because we could get meat through that.

Re: Civilization V: Heart of the Maelstrom: 600.01
*shrugs* Call me soft. It's just not the way I like to play... And after the last Civ, nothing I expected even as a possibility. And, well, yes, Drow portraied in literature are selfish, but they are also intelligent... They are the most numerous currently... But if they manage to piss the four minor races of, they could unite against them - And even IF they could kill them of, it's very likely they would loose the superior numbers to the Grippli... While, if we really have the "Drow as portrayed in literature...". Men are 2nd-Class citizens. And every Drow hates to work for the benefit of another. Murder and similar things are on each edge... Good luck surviving if you are only 50 heads strong.
About "They are like that"... Again... I am playing at the goblins forum, because here the things "should" be different. Especially of a tribe that was kicked in the ass by their own goddess...
I think we have just different approaches

So... I'll do what I can...
Do NOT vote on D.. I'd like to know what's in front of us as much as anyone... but remember, magic can be detected, and we are NOT ready to face some one attacking us if they Scry and don't like us....
(just trying to affect you all)

Sort of a different situation from last game. We ran into the dragon because we were scrying its lair to find out more about it. Here, we're divining the meaning behind something which is in our location. It's more likely to be ignored, if there's even anything still around it pertains to..

Cast of Characters [NPCs]
Cast of Characters [Players]
(Characters get a name, an occupation, a skill, and a hobby.)
Special Notes:
People, Places and Things Discovered:
The Aspects and Experience
Actions Done:
Population
Food Supply: Approximately 3 months
The Current Date: 600.02
Things Incoming: "Event 2" (600.06)
Storylines Running: Escape From The Pit [Ends 600.05]
A group of Drow are dispatched to the Fire Giants since their disposition seems to have improved for you, but it doesn't seem to have borne any fruit. The Fire Giants look at you as a laughable joke, how you're tenaciously surviving so far down here. They don't mean it in a bad or humiliating way... but the net effect is less "you're our little sisters" than "how can something so tiny withstand the volcano?" They're ignorant rather than malicious. You tried buttering them up with promise of magical aid (and even a little Etand Root, which they claim not to have heard of before) but they won't hear of it for the moment. Not pushing your luck you return to Sulfur Lake to consider your next action.
The Centaur/Wemic racial neutral negativity blew up and the two races tried to outdo the other... violently. The battle was quick and while there were no serious injuries there was no clear winner either. The two tribes have been separated as far as the village boundries will allow, but if something like this were to happen again, the results might not be so good next time. The centaurs are starting to get cabin fever from not seeing the sun, and some have clawed the walls of one of the chambers around Sulfur Lake as if they were trying to stave off insanity. Whether they are acting or not, you can't tell, but if you were to set them free so they could find their way to the surface, they could then lead the "lawful races" back down against you (more likely just to get the Etand Root rather than exterminate a small enclave of Drow).
Clearing out a few cave-ins, you send about half the Drow in a careful, controlled exploration of the dark, twisty tunnels. You've uncovered no other signs of life down here, however you did uncover a lot more signs of the number "13" as well as a random assortment of bells of various sizes. Follow that up with the discovery of a huge burial chamber filled with anthropomorphic skeletons, however, and it becomes clear you're not alone down here. Multiple rat skulls have the "13" seared into them alongside multiple arcane symbols. When you find signs in the caves that you're getting closer and closer to the underground tunnels of a Skaven hive, the Drow are recalled long before anyone can give yourselves away.
... at least until it's discovered that the surviving unicorn of the Ponies dug a tunnel with her magic and used it as an escape route... the Ponies escaped! You're able to locate them with detection spells despite the remaining unicorn interfering vis her own magic; her stealthing spells are no match for the combined magical might of the Drow and the tribal enhancement chant of Throws-Thunder. They ran right into a Rhinocodile ambush before you could round them up, but they managed to escape with their lives intact (although, given their "captors" are Drow, the fate that awaits them might not be any better...). You eliminated the Rhinocodiles, and it occurs to you that these tunnels are for "shunned" Skaven --- the Rhinocodiles are let loose, and eventually chase them down and devour them. Eventually, you're going to have rat-flavored company. One of them is bound to discover your lair.
Finally, you work hard trying to design a purification system to get Sulfur Lake's water safe for drinking and irrigation of the Shadofrond and Etand Root. You haven't succeeded yet, but at least for the moment no one is in danger of dying down here from poisoned water. The food supply is stable... but in short order you're going to need to start looking again.
WILL YOU...
A) Make an example of a Centaur, Wemic or Pony as consequences of their actions?
B) Attempt to "butter up" or bribe the Fire Giants?
C) Clear out the rest of the cave-ins and go exploring some more?
D) Seek out the Skaven, despite them likely being better armed and far far more numerous than you are?
E) Experiment with the water of Sulfur Lake alchemically, looking for ways it can be used?
F) Release the Centaurs, Wemics, or both, letting them find routes to the surface (and fresh air/towns to loot)?
G) Go Rhinocodile hunting for meat?
