Re: The Sundered Way
"Oh, hey Randy... what's the range on that horn thing? If there's some that get past us, or if we need to pull back deeper into the desert, maybe we can give a toot to let you know to expect something at your backs?", Tren suggests.

Re: The Sundered Way
Randy shrugs and hands it over. "About the range of a regular horn I'd guess. Doesn't seem to be affected by walls as Tess was in a building and could hear it. It has 4 charges per day and you need to be thinking about who you want to contact when you blow it. No one else will hear it other than the person you're thinking about, so you may want to try to contact a couple of different people...just in case."

She nods. "No sense saving charges. If it comes to it, we'll let as many of you know as we can. Just in case."

Re: The Sundered Way
Before you all head down, Coljin approaches Zokk and places a hand on their bark, channeling some healing life force into them.
((Heals 15 to bring Zokk to 29/39.))
Once down below, Zokk skirts around the hole and moves to the edge of Randy's lanternlight, and can spot a wood and rope bridge crossing another chasm ahead.
((imgur misbehaving, so no image right now.))

Zokk will look down the pit before motioning the light to come with so they can see what is potentially on the other side of the bridge.

Dornikal, you hear found sounds of skittering movement echoing through the cave as your companions move up to join you.
The dragonborn, having the same vision limitations as Randy, keep within his lantern's light.

"There are more of'm moving around down there. Randy, is that bridge something the dragonborn have made? Where'd they get the wood from in the desert?"
Dornikal moves up to inspect the integrity of the bridge before moving onto it.
Investigation: Investigating a suspicious bridge: 1D20 = [15] = 15

The wood seems solid. Old, but solid.

Re: The Sundered Way
"At a guess, I'd say they traded for it. You could buy a lot of wood for some of those gems. Makes sense to. You need something to brace up your mine shafts with, and wood is better at it than most things. Cheaper too, even if you're importing it. "
Randy turns and asks the Dragonborn about the source of the wood.

((Be sure to describe in detail the type and grain of the wood spider!))
"It seems solid enough. Don't like the idea of them using wood supports with fire breathing cow eaters around but aye guess it's hard to plan for. Give good, solid dwarven stone work. That don't burn."

Re: The Sundered Way
((You can roll some dice if you want to determine wood type with a nature check!))
"Some of bridge here when ancestors found mine. Other from caravans. Yes, some traded, other from wagons lost in the Great Sands. Sometimes trees rise to the surface too."
The hafts of their spears and javelins are wood as well, so it seems they have at least some familiarity with wood working, though as you note, it is a finite, limited resource here.

((Nah, thanks though! Unless you really want it?))
Dornikal moves so he can see across the bridge, if there is nothing waiting on the other side he'll move quickly across it.

Dornikal scoots across the bridge, the old wood creaking a bit, but holding firm.

((Presuming he doesn't see anything beyond what is shown,))
Dornikal waves an okay back to the others and moves slowly on ahead until he can only just see the bridge, staying to the south wall.
