Starting with TF7, the readers also had to solve the puzzles as well, not only meet the funding targets...

It's a bit a pity the last ones are out of order. And seemingly incomplete.

Honestly, I could not care less if Tempts Fate died for good. It could also put E. in a funny predicament, since she would not be able to make more comic based fundraisers without being called out on some kind of "remake" shenanigans, which is explicitly stated in the rules.

But then again, I'm still clinging to a forum noone uses aside from some random survivors of the great Discord Exodus.

I find the entire tempts fate debacle shameful. To try and pull more money out of the readers after the last failure that left a sour taste in everyone's mouth and personally made me dislike any and all of these money fundraisers with a passion. It's holding the community hostage and the promised reward has been compromised with the knowledge that we might not even get the things that are expected. It's stupid.

I still like the stories of TF better than just a "GoFundMe" without any reward.

And the TF stories showcase Elli's ability of being able to draw faster when she ditches the shading.
And her storytelling. How with some weird abilities she imagines weird effects.

If it is satisfying for her to tell the story, it may also transfer as energy into the GoblinsComic work itself.

We'll see.


But indeed, otherwise I am also careful with financing funders.
I've seen too many money collections go wrong.
Including her Goblins Card Game (where she invested a LOT of time for artwork after it was clear the game failed).

I think that’s uncharitable to the point of untrue. ‘Holding the community hostage’ just isn’t right. If people are giving money to see a goblin beat up monsters they should expect to see the fight, but if they don’t get it that’s just a broken deal, not a hostage situation.

That said: I think the whole thing feels bad and I can’t decide whether Elli getting the money or not getting the money would be worse for her.

I sincerely love that multiple bsky comments Elli received in the days leading up to this was "hoo boy I really hope this isn't going to be tempts fate, that was a disaster last time .." and "I hope this is an update about the animation!"


Like.. it's just another illustrated gofundme for a wedding party she's gonna blast all the money on at once and be in exactly the same hand to mouth situation afterwards. She's still going to be asking for money three months from now, And there's no way in hell the handful of eccentric fans that shell out 6,000 will get a $6,000 experience with what they get from the pages.

If she doesn't get the money and Tempts dies then what will Elli do then? I'm guessing just not finish the pages and then hide under a blanket

Yup. Under his foot. Also making him immortal till the demon regrows in a thousand years or whatever.

Wonder what he will look like in another 1000 years, as he clearly has aged here.

oh wow I'm more out of the loop than I thought, what happened in the Discord server?

Nothing, I just meant that this forum got abandoned (not even a link to it), and the headquarters has been moved to the Discord. We are just straggling old goblins here reminiscing of the "good old days" until Kore or a somewhat capable adventurer party finally wipes us out.

That being said, the first goal is almost already reached, so probably we will see at least 1 new page soon-ish, even though it is TF, not the main comic.

Yup. Under his foot. Also making him immortal till the demon regrows in a thousand years or whatever.

Wonder what he will look like in another 1000 years, as he clearly has aged here.

It's actually really fun to draw him as an older goblin now.

And the demon eye is from Tempts Fate 11, which is incomplete (Elli had a specific Tempts Fate folder for the TF pages):

I think I remember it by being an extra goal in the collection bar. Where he would get a new magical item he could never lose, and not in the in comic description itself. But, no way to check now. i might very well be mistaken.

My guilty pleasure for the Tempts Fate arcs have always been hoping that he dies. Though it's been a clutch way for Elli to raise funds for things in the past and now. Though I will admit I'm still salty about the last Tempts Fate's outcome and the way it turned out among other things.

Between Goblins: alternate realities where the partnered company ran off with the money and didn't deliver on the game, the animation, and everything else I just find it difficult to see Elli once again starting another fundraiser for more support. It feels like there was just one a little bit ago, granted without an accompanying Tempts Fate Arc.

Given the doubling of the donations from an anonymous benefactor Monday night it appears that Tempts will survive this round and I shall be disappointed once again. Hoping that wasn't some kind of contrived way to ensure that Tempts doesn't actually die.

Right when we were getting some pages & progress too for the first time in a long time too it felt like. To each their own though. I can understand those that like the Tempts Fate arcs. Best outcome is that it energizes Elli to work on the comic more.

Yeah, I am wondering why it seems like she is not working on Goblinscomic in the meantime.
Output pages as normal, and TF should be a "side project".
She's not drawing TF, as she doesn't know the outcome (although by now it is clear, that TF will survive all challenges, she has called for "world breaking levels of victory" if the result in total will be double the original.

Honestly, TF beating everything as easily as he did hell in the last botched one (which delivered the number of pages she should have delivered, but not the outcome of the story), it's also not fun in the sense of "a real challenge you may be able to overcome". Honestly, someone in chains, having been beaten up like that? How can that person suddenly go to beat the captors and (whatever else comes after that)?
The first one were wonderful challenges, where TF had to have an idea of how to beat it all. But now?
He is not Tempts Fate anymore. He is BeatsAllChallengesBlindly.

I wonder what it is about Elli, Goblins, web comics, and/or the world today that makes it so easy for these occasional donation drives to succeed so grandly - while the ongoing income from the project is insufficient to make a life. I don’t really have a theory, but it’s pretty striking.
