Stannis would be the WORST candidate for the throne!!! Gah!

I think of Stannis as the Lex Luthor of Westeros... he thinks he's doing what's right and he would just be a horrible dictator.

When it comes to Stannis, I share Davos' viewpoint. He is harsh and has a little bit of weird sense of justice, but I think he is no tyrant. Of course, Daenerys is whom everyone wants to see seated on the Iron Throne, but I think she is still too young and inexperienced and waaay too soft for ruling as of yet.

I think Davos is awesome! He's your Blue Color up and comer with a sound set of morals.
Now how awesome could an onion knight be on a dragon!?

There is a great You Tube parody of "Somebody I used to know" by Gotye for Game of thrones. Look up "Character I used to know"...

There's also a GoT song opening that's made like Friends. It's rather funny!

I love Stannis.
Wronged by so many, including his own kin. Stuck in a loveless marriage due to politics and with a sickly child because his ass of a brother gave him the damp barren rock called Dragonstone.

Yet does his duty, is an athiest ( he just uses the red woman ), has some nice dry humor, probably the best general in Westeros AND he believes in giving the job to the best suited person instead of using it as grease ( See Davos ).
Not to mention he's the only throne contender who is dealing with the real threat.

I predict that Jon Snow and Daenerys will end up married and the new rulers. I've been predicting that one for ages and ages. I just feel like putting that in writing somewhere

Well they do seem to be the most suited Bachelor and bachelorhette in the books. She because of her legitimate claim to the throne, and he because he's the least weaselly man we've seen. However, she may NEED a weasel to make everything work. My Plot sense is tingling for a Tyrion/Daenerys matchup, just because he's got just the right amount of
Genre-Savvy-ness to make it work, provided he can expose the truth of what happened to Joffrey.

One of my favorite theories is that Jon is not the Bastard of Ned Stark but the child of his sister that got raped by the mad king, who happend to be.... Targaryen. As Daenerys is, and so he is her half brother and fit to marry her as is custom with the dragonlords.

I love the theory but one thing which doesn't support it is that Jon was burnt when fighting the walker going for Lord Commander Mormont. He spent what, months (?) healing and still has to flex his hand to keep it working. Doesn't quite fit the resistance to fire the strong Targaryens have been showing, although I suppose he could be one of the more common weak variant.
Regarding the gossip on Jon's mother being a fishmonger - don't we have something like 4 - 5 instances of people claiming that "reliable" sources say Jon's mother is 4 - 5 different women?

Martin has confirmed that Targaryens don't have a special fire resistance. Dany's resistance to it was due to the egg hatching ritual's magic. They're not immune to disease either, even though they claim it.

well let's face it...if you're a seemingly all powerful dictator, wouldn't YOU want it to be "Well known" that you were basically unkillable by anthing short of dropping a castle on you?
Though the "Egg ritual = Fire immunity" thing doesn't make complete sense...how did she get the unusual burn resistance she had BEFORE she even encountered the eggs? Remember the scalding hot bath that didn't injure her?

I know this is the book club but I have to make a comment on the show. But ever since I read it, I've been waiting for the Oberyn Martell vs The Mountain fight. I gotta say it was absolutely amazing. Far cooler than I imagined. Anyone else think that was awesome?
Anyone else looking forward to a particular scene after reading it in the books?

Please don't read this if you only follow the TV show and haven't read the books! Seriously, big spoiler for those who have not read "A Dance with Dragons". I love this series, and cannot wait for the next book. I have also been watching the TV show on HBO and they've done an excellent job with only a few minor changes to the story.

John Snow isn't the candidate so far with Danerys because he is brutally stabbed and killed(?) by his brothers in the night watch in "A Dance with Dragons".Chap.69. He has been stabbed 4 times and the dagger was left in his chest, the last line states "he never felt the fourth".

It was great! I really thought they did a good job.
